* The 2016 anime of ''Literature/OcculticNine'', made by the same person who made ''Anime/SteinsGate'', pushes boundaries by making a girl with truly abnormally large boobs a main character in a non-ecchi, non-hentai, non-comedy sci-fi mystery adventure.

* ''Anime/GhastlyPrinceEnmaBurningUp'' was pushed for by Creator/GoNagai specifically in response to the new draconian anti-Anime laws in Tokyo. Go Nagai being, of course, the "Father of Ecchi", and his legendary fighting back against Japan's version of UsefulNotes/TheComicsCode created the entire {{Ecchi}} genre in Japanese manga and anime. The animated version retains the original's high fetish and nudity content, and swaps out the main male lead for a female version just so they can add additional fanservice.

* Creator/StanLee created a ''ComicBook/SpiderMan'' [[VerySpecialEpisode anti-drug story]] (running between ''Amazing Spider-Man #96-98'') at the recommendation of the United States Department of Health, but UsefulNotes/TheComicsCode refused to allow it, since the code forbade ''any and all'' depictions of drugs. He defied the code by publishing the story without the approval seal, and undermined the code's credibility when the story got a lot of critical and public acclaim. The Code's creators attempted to rework their standards after the story's reception by allowing negative depictions of drugs, but by that point, the damage to their credibility had been done, with the industry swiftly realizing they could just ignore the CCA and causing it to fade into irrelevance.
* ''ComicBook/SwampThing'' under Creator/AlanMoore also had an issue published without UsefulNotes/TheComicsCode seal, the one where Abby finds out that [[{{Squick}} she had been having sex with her uncle]] [[GrandTheftMe in her husband's body]].
* ExploitedTrope for Marv Wolfman and George Perez in ''ComicBook/TeenTitans''' "ComicBook/TheTerrorOfTrigon". UsefulNotes/TheComicsCode did not approve of their on-panel scene of Dick and Kory sharing a bed, but losing the approval meant they could get away with a lot more horror elements than they normally would.

* The producers of the classic films ''Film/ThePawnbroker'' and ''Theatre/WhosAfraidOfVirginiaWoolf'' did this when they successfully appealed to UsefulNotes/TheHaysCode board of governors and made them bend to the inclusion of artistically necessary nudity and harsh language respectively, with the excuse of them being "special exceptions".

** FOX objected to a scene in "[[Recap/TheSimpsonsS2E11OneFishTwoFishBlowfishBlueFish One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish]]" where Bart and Lisa sing the theme tune to ''Film/{{Shaft}}'' at karaoke. The producers tracked down footage of the song being performed at the UsefulNotes/{{Academy Award}}s (where it was nominated for Best Original Song) to prove that it had already aired in primetime. The network censors relented and allowed the scene to air.
