(Spike's an IdiotHoudini; he spent six hours tripping in public and the sun didn't come up or anything. Well, maybe he was in a tent. And it ''was'' raining...)

* For some reason, hands are apparently one of the hardest things for the sleeping human brain to replicate accurately, meaning that one's hands tend to look surreal or malformed in dreams. This supposedly makes contemplating one's hands one of the easiest ways to tell whether or not one is currently dreaming, and as such it's common for lucid dreamers (or people trying to master lucid dreaming) to randomly do it every so often whether high or not, just to check.

* In a season five episode of ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'', Castiel time travels twice (first to go back in time and then to return to the present) which is both times extremely difficult and leaves him very unwell. After his arrival the second time he holds up his right hand and stares at it, presumably to reassure himself that he's in one piece.

* Ever notice how much time babies spend touching their lips and feet, and looking at their hands while moving their fingers? This trope is the reason why. Babies are {{Sense Freak}}s experiencing a whole world of LimbSensationFascination, and the lips and fingers are the most touch-sensitive parts of the body. There's also a bit of HowDoIShotWeb as they learn how to actually control those finger and toe things; watching carefully or putting them in contact with their mouth as they practice moving them is very helpful to getting the hang of spacial perception.
