Every once in a while actors think that they have to scrunch up their eyes while being on screen. Reasons for that are manifold, though it most commonly seems to be a way of increasing the badass level of the character they are playing. Squeezing your eyes together works like a focusing mechanism for the DeathGlare. However, some actors seem to think of the ClintSquint as some sort of cheap way to add depth to a character (which is, of course, destined to fail).

* TropeNamer is ClintEastwood, who frequently squinted while playing his iconic western roles. Eastwood said he only did it because the cigars his character smoked bugged his eyes, and he was allergic to horses.
* Parodied in ''BackToTheFuture'' Part III where Marty McFly uses Clint Eastwoods name as well as his squint.
* LeeVanCleef often wore a [[DeathGlare perpetual sneer]] when playing movie villains, which involved a steely-eyed squint.
* Charles Bronson, perhaps aided by his naturally narrow eyes due to Lithuanian ancestry.

* TropeNamer ClintEastwood, of course. At least once in all of his movies since 1964.
** Eastwood said he only did it because the cigars his character smoked bugged his eyes and he was allergic to horses -- which proves that mildly discomforting Clint Eastwood amplifies the odds of him being an unstoppable force of death.
*** It's also a side effect of aiming a handgun at someone, as seen in the image. Human depth perception being what it is, to get a good sight picture with a pistol you need to switch your focus depth from far (your target) to near (the sights on the gun in your hand), and back. This tends to produce either a squint as you force your eyes to rapidly change, or a one-eyed head-tilt as you act as if you were really using a rifle. Failure to double check your aim usually results in ATeamFiring. Of course, you still do not want to be on the receiving end of a Clint Squint in this case, as this means that the squinter has just decided what part of you he wants to shoot, and cares enough to use the sights.
** LeeVanCleef who played opposite Eastwood twice, always has a great one, that almost inevitably got comboed with his DeathGlare.
* In the same vein as the above example: Charles Bronson.
* Also seen in lots and lots of Spaghetti Westerns, mostly as a mix of filming in brightly lit locations and the convention of copying Sergio Leone's work whenever given the opportunity.
** As someone who has lived in a desert, this is very much TruthInTelevision. The sand makes the sun nearly unbearable if you don't squint or wear sunglasses.
* Parodied in Back to the Future Part III where Marty McFly uses Clint Eastwoods name as well as his squint.
* Burn After Reading- Brad Pitt's character Chad trys to give Osbourne Cox one when they first meet. He fails hilariously.

* Brock from Pokémon. In fact, you never see his eyes completely open.
* Yamazaki from ''[[CardCaptorSakura Card Captor Sakura]]'' has the same case of permanent squint as the above. Though in his case, it might be more having his eyes perpetually closed as to focus all his attention on constructing the next outrageous lie that will come out of his mouth.
