[[folder:Western Animation]]
* ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'':
** Aku. He only takes pleasure in conquest, others' suffering and praises to himself. He rules the entire Earth, yet many of his decisions are not productive in any way, being done purely ForTheEvulz.
** The Dominator from Season 5. While the High Priestess is NeutralEvil, The Dominador is a twisted psychopath who is as chaotically evil as Aku. He massacres a city of innocent civilians, robs its children and uses them as experiments. Much like Aku, his decisions are not productive in any way, being done purely ForTheEvulz.
* ''WesternAnimation/AdventureTime'':
** The Lich is a supernatural undead force created from nuclear transmissions whose sole goal is the end of ''all life''. It doesn't get more chaotic evil than that.
** The character known only as the "Magic Man" uses his magic powers almost exclusively to harass people for his own amusement. He was exiled from his home planet for such crimes as turning all of the water on the planet into hair, fusing people's bodies together and making people's shadows come to life and attack them. He also uses his powers to set up {{Hard Truth Aesop}}s; in his first appearance on the show, when Finn gives him some food thinking him to be a beggar, he turns Finn into a giant disembodied foot so Finn can "learn to appreciate what a jerk I am." [[spoiler:He becomes more of a TrueNeutral after the events of "You Forgot Your Floaties" (Or possibly even LawfulGood after the events of "Normal Man").]]
** Hunson Abadeer is a demon who attacks people without provocation and also rules over a hell-like dimension called the Nightosphere which is "sustained by chaos" When [[spoiler:Marceline is tricked into temporarily taking over his position]] we see that part of the duties of the ruler of the Nightosphere involve arbitrarily bestowing either "pleasure, pain, or weird punishment" on anybody who comes to him with an issue. He even describes himself as "filled with chaotic evil" in "Daddy's Little Monster".
* Girkek the Planet-Killer from ''WesternAnimation/MegasXLR''.
--> '''Girkek:''' My only remorse is that I can't destroy your planets again!
** [[spoiler:Evil Coop]] in the finale: a BloodKnight of the first order who, having reduced his own dimension to a burned-out wasteland, seeks to invade Coop's own in order to devastate that one too.
* Trigon of ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'', a demon lord who destroyed the world just to watch it burn (he does rule over lesser demons, but this seems to amount to making them grovel and fight for his entertainment). His daughter Raven could also be said to be Chaotic Evil by nature, but she's LawfulGood [[AntiAntiChrist by nurture]], and [[EnemyWithin struggles with herself continually over this]].
** Brother Blood started out LawfulEvil, but suddenly devolved into this once he created a giant tidal wave to destroy a city just because.
* A rare example of a [[AntiVillain sympathetic]] BigBad with this alignment would be ''WesternAnimation/{{Wakfu}}'''s Nox. [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Poor Nox]]. Poor [[FreakOut insane]], [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity deluded]], [[OmnicidalManiac omnicidal]] Nox.
* Rampage in ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars'' is an AxCrazy murderer who killed a colony ForTheEvulz and won't willingly work with anyone, only siding with Megatron because the Predacon cut out half of [[OurSoulsAreDifferent his Spark]] and uses it to [[ImHavingSoulPains torture]] the insane monster into submission.
** Galvatron from Transformers. He is essentially Megatron's evil spiced with the added flavor of damaged sanity chips caused by a crash-landing and a prolonged plasma bath after the events of ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformersTheMovie''. He's prone to shooting his own troops just for the heck of it and is as much a detriment to his own plans as the Autobots due to his psychosis. It reached the point where an episode had his loyal second-in-command sending him to a sentient Therapy Planet by force in hopes of curing him. Not only did it fail, but when the planet interfaced with him in an attempt to lobotomize him, he drove it insane with his madness before killing it and razing its entire civilization back to the stone age.
* Vicky from ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddparents'', the PsychoForHire, StrawNihilist, and evil incarnate. It seems her only purpose in existing is to torment the children she babysits just for the sake of it. Timmy more-or-less calls her the most evil being in the Universe at one point.
%%* Kevin 11 from the original ''WesternAnimation/{{Ben 10}}'' series and again in the first season of ''WesternAnimation/Ben10UltimateAlien''.
%%* Chris [=McLean=], the host of the ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' series.
%%** Also, Scott from ''Total Drama: Revenge of the Island''.
* ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'':
** Richard Nixon's Head, [[PresidentEvil current President of the Earth]], often seems NeutralEvil, but several of his actions seem to mostly be motivated by [[ForTheEvulz just proving how evil he is]]. In his first appearance, he promises if elected to sell children's organs to zoos for meat, apparently just because he can.
** The VillainProtagonist Bender is the perfect example of a TokenEvilTeammate. He enjoys his freedom above all things and will do bad things and disobey orders simply to prove he is TheUnfettered. Despite being a robot and having certain lines he won't cross, he is far too greedy, wanton, hedonistic and selfish to qualify as merely ChaoticNeutral. However for a Chaotic Evil character, Bender is a rare example of EvenEvilHasStandards; Bender considers Fry his best friend, and has shown considerable emotion at his loss, although he often treats him rather badly. He has even promised to never kill him, the only other exception being Hermes, after he helped Bender come to terms with being imperfect. When given the choice he will consistently side with his friends.
--->'''Fry:''' You mean Bender is the evil Bender? I'm shocked. Shocked! Well, not that shocked.
* ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'' has Bill Cipher, who treats the end of the world (which HE brought on after millennia of orchestration) like a college party, and tortures people and animals ForTheEvulz. He's very much a Type 4.
* PsychoForHire Zim from ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim''. He would be LawfulEvil (or at least NeutralEvil) if he didn't prove to be AxCrazy from time to time, and at one point horribly crippled Dib with a temporal replacement device and GIR's rubber pigs. Depending on the plot, Zim is either Chaotic Evil, NeutralEvil or LawfulEvil -- there's a thin line between stupid and incompetent lawful evil, genuine chaotic evil, and regular neutral evil.
%%* [=NegaDuck=], the AxCrazy [[EvilCounterpart alternate universe version]] of the ChaoticGood WesternAnimation/DarkwingDuck.
* Hexadecimal of ''WesternAnimation/ReBoot'' places more value on chaotic than evil. She once reversed her own Medusa Bug when its end result was a boring, motionless world. She shifts to ChaoticNeutral when Bob fixes her face.
* BigBad Demona from ''WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}}''. None of her evil plans actually benefit her or improve her life in any way: they are entirely focused on the extermination of the people she hates.
* The Witch's Ghost/Sarah Ravencroft from ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooAndTheWitchsGhost'' wanted to destroy the world, and, as an ''actual'' supernatural ghost, was one of the only ones who had the ability to do so. Her NeutralEvil descendant Ben Ravencroft wanted to summon her so they could take over the world together, but she wanted to destroy it instead.
* ''WesternAnimation/TheBoondocks'' has Colonel H. Stinkmeaner, the series' [[MadeOfEvil Evil Incarnate]], who hates everything and everyone, will commit an atrocity against anyone ForTheEvulz (it's even shown that it's the sole motivation behind his ''very breathing''), and [[ToHellAndBack had to be sent back from Hell itself]] after his death at Granddad's hands because [[KarmaHoudini death cannot stop a nigga moment]], but peace and/or jailtime will.
* Twin Masters, the baddies from the second season of ''WesternAnimation/{{Hero 108}}'', seek nothing more than to let chaos reign supreme, and wipe out every living thing in Hidden Kingdom.
* The lineup of Dethklok in ''WesternAnimation/{{Metalocalypse}}'' are card-carrying evil, and insanely chaotic.
* Master Shake from ''WesternAnimation/AquaTeenHungerForce'' consistently exhibits erratic, destructive, and often violent behavior. His turnoffs are friendship, manners, and people.
* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** Nightmare Moon's goal is to bring about TheNightThatNeverEnds, which would incidentally [[OmnicidalManiac kill everyone in Equestria]], regardless of identity or relevance to her personal goals. In addition, she wants to be respected and awed, and doesn't care if she has to rule by love or by fear to get that respect.
** Discord is introduced as "the spirit of chaos and disharmony". He's so chaotic he's practically crazy, and wants to turn Equestria into a WorldOfChaos for fun (which he can do [[RealityWarper at a whim]] if he's not stopped), and the fact that this would make the inhabitants miserable forever probably only encourages him. He also likes to specifically [[BreakThemByTalking torment]] those who could stand in his way, even though he shows he could easily get rid of them without doing it.
** [[MilesGloriosus "The Great and Powerful"]] Trixie is normally just a show-off and a bully, but when she dons an ArtifactOfDoom to match Twilight Sparkle's ability in magic, its corrupting influence temporarily causes her to become the nutty tyrant of Ponyville, assaulting others with magic if they don't follow her weird random demands.
--->'''Trixie:''' Pull, {{you fool}}s!\\
'''Snips:''' But wouldn't it be faster if [the cart] had some wheels?\\
'''Trixie:''' The Great and Powerful Trixie doesn't trust wheels. Now, pull faster!
** Cozy Glow believes that friendship is powerful and decides to become the empress of friendship by teaming up with Lord Tirek to drain all magic from Equestria and trap the Elements of Harmony in Tartarus. Despite this, her definition of power doesn't seem to have a meaning and her interests seem to only focus on feeling powerful, instead of leading toward an actual direction.
* [=SheZap=] from ''WesternAnimation/{{SheZow}}'' values nothing more than chaos plain and simple.
%%* Hama from ''WesternAnimation/AvatarTheLastAirbender''
* ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'':
** Vaatu is literally the spirit of chaos.
** The Red Lotus from season 3 is this as well, Zaheer particularly. They are a society dedicated to wiping out world order and the Avatar. However, they're devoted first and foremost to ''chaos'', [[WellIntentionedExtremist it's only their methods that push them into evil]].
---> "The natural order is disorder."
** Zaheer seems to see himself as more Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Good, as he uses what he sees as more extreme methods of attaining balance via disorder and chaos to get rid of the governments that he sees have corrupted the world. In season 4, his sincere dedication to chaos as an ideal comes to the front when he provides advice to TheHero Korra in order to defeat the LawfulEvil tyrant Kuvira (who came to power in the vacuum left in the wake of his own actions).
* ''WesternAnimation/JimmyTwoShoes'':
** Lucius Heinous VII, whose sole goal is to make everyone else miserable ForTheEvulz.
** Heloise is another example. Even though she works for Lucius, she's still a "more chaotic than evil" example; while she shares his goal of making Miseryville's population miserable, she also wants to make ''Lucius'' miserable, and the easiest way to do that is to make everyone around him happy.
* ''WesternAnimation/SouthPark'': [[VillainProtagonist Cartman.]] He's an [[EnfantTerrible evil, sociopathic kid]] who often gets revenge on others in [[DisproportionateRetribution horrible ways.]] Examples are how he [[spoiler:murdered his bully's parents and fed it to him while mocking him,]] forced another kid to saw through his leg [[BerserkButton because he called him chubby,]] and how he orchestrated the suicide of his therapist's wife because he mocked him for being fat. While he normally only goes after people for revenge, he also does things like attempted genocide and once manipulated [[EldritchAbomination Cthulu]] into doing his bidding and kill thousands of hippies and other innocent people [[ForTheEvulz just because he could]].
* Whether you see Rick Sanchez from ''WesternAnimation/RickAndMorty'' as this or ChaoticNeutral entirely depends on how willing you are to forgive him his more egregious transgressions, such as enslaving an entire planet to power his car battery, destroying a universe, or creating (at the very least, casually employing) a race of creatures whose every living moment is pain until they perform their assigned task, whereupon they welcome sweet oblivion.
* Lord Dominator from ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder'' definitely counts due to her determination to destroy the galaxy.
* ''WesternAnimation/XavierRenegadeAngel'' seems at first glance to have enough of a desire to help people to qualify as ChaoticNeutral or a really, ''really'' incompetent ChaoticGood, but on closer examination he really just cares about being ''[[VillainWithGoodPublicity seen as]]'' someone who helps people. When no one's around or when helping people won't benefit him, he'll readily do things like kidnap a bunch of babies and then encourage his [[OrganAutonomy (sentient) snake hand]] to [[EatsBabies eat them]], or set a number of random people on fire [[InsaneTrollLogic in the name of "reverse psychology"]].
* The Giant Chicken from ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' is definitely this. Serving as nothing more than a recurring antagonist, attacking Peter in ridiculously prolonged fight sequences that hardly make any sense within an episode's story. No matter how much damage he suffers, this oversized avian NEVER stays down.
* Yellow Diamond, one of the [[BigBadDuumvirate four leaders]] of [[TheEmpire Homeworld]] in ''WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse'', falls into this category. Despite nominally being concerned with the fate of her empire, she cares more about retribution and destruction than what would make the most strategic sense. She disregards the much-needed natural resources of the Earth and insists on [[EarthShatteringKaboom destroying it]] out of spite, and wants to [[DisproportionateRetribution shatter every Rose Quartz gem]] for the [[spoiler:alleged]] actions of one. The contrast with her LawfulEvil "sister" Blue Diamond is best seen in [[Recap/StevenUniverseS5E2TheTrial "The Trial"]], in which Blue insists on following legal procedure to the letter, whereas Yellow just wants to skip [[JudgeJuryAndExecutioner straight to execution]] and even poofs both lawyers in a moment of TranquilFury.
* Vlad Tepes Dracula in ''WesternAnimation/Castlevania2017'' is an sympathetic example and an interesting examination of this trope. He is waging a literal genocidal campaign against mankind for his wife's unjust murder and has assembled every monster, vampire from around the world and the legions of Hell itself to massacre every human in his path. However, his war is noted by the lack of any tactic or strategy beyond just kill everyone, and Dracula's own minions note that he is too consumed with grief and despair to come up with anything close to it and that he is just lashing out aimlessly.
* Catra from ''WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower'' is another sympathetic character, and at the beginning her lack of concern for the strict rules of the Evil Hoard and affection for her best friend Adora make her seem ChaoticGood. It's once Adora rebels against the Hoard that her true colors are shown, as Catra is totally unable to comprehend that Adora rebelled because of the atrocities the Hoard were committing, and actually bemused as to why the suffering of others matters so much to her. As far as Catra's concerned you do whatever it takes to look after yourself and [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes those you love]], and she has absolutely no regard for anyone else. This betrayal by the only person she cared about drives her to become more and more committed to the Hoard's cause in order to reclaim that sense of validation and support, and by the end of the season she's firmly NeutralEvil.
** The later seasons move her even further into Chaotic Evil territory. [[spoiler:Adora's continued victories and her own continued failures take a serious toll on her mental state, to the point where she becomes desperate to defeat Adora in ''something'', even if it means [[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum destroying the entire world]]. By the end of the third season, her motivation is pretty much only "get back at Adora, no matter the cost".]]
* Invictus from ''WesternAnimation/FinalSpace'' poisoned the Titans and orchestrated a rebellion which led to its imprisonment in Final Space. The whole reason as to why it wants to be freed from its prison is so it could consume all life in every dimension to start things anew. In the season 3 finale, [[spoiler: Ash releases him]] much to the horror of Team Squad.

[[folder:Video Games]]
* The unnamed VillainProtagonist from ''VideoGame/{{Hatred}}'' is a psychopath who takes incredible pleasure in wantonly slaughtering everyone he comes upon.
* Vega from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' series is a narcissistic ninja bullfighter aristocrat whose hobbies include carving people up with a clawed gauntlet in order to watch their blood pool beneath them, likening it to a blooming rose. Though he finds it vulgar when it sprays.
** Juri is an AxCrazy murderer with "rules" and "boring people" in the "dislikes" portion of her profile.
* Bandits of the ''VideoGame/{{Borderlands}}'' series are AlwaysChaoticEvil lunatics whose entire lives seem to revolve around violence.
* Dio from ''VideoGame/WorldHeroes 2'' is a HumanoidAbomination created by the MadScientist [[MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate Dr. Damundo]]. After the defeat of his previous creation, Geegus, he made a much more powerful one, which decided to abandon the doctor and destroy the world by itself, killing millions of innocent people. After Geegus is defeated, Dio comes from nowhere and challenges the protagonist, intending to kill anyone who interferes in his plans.
* ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'':
** ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'':
*** RobotBuddy HK-47 [[RoboticPsychopath cheerfully asks to kill every living thing he sees]]; he only has his master's metaphorical leash stopping him from becoming a literal non-stop killing machine.
*** Calo Nord, a legendary BountyHunter, [[HatesSmallTalk kills people for talking to him when he's not in the mood]].
*** [[BigBad Darth Malak]] is a lunatic that does nothing but throw the endless fleet the Star Forge provides him with at the enemy, and he lives up to that, since the first time we see him, he orders an orbital bombardment to level an entire planet just because he was impatient about his army's progress with looking for one Jedi. His relentless StupidEvil serves to make him ''more'' threatening, as the PlayerCharacter is the only thing stopping him from nuking the galaxy into a new dark age.
*** [[BigBad Darth Nihilus]] from [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords the sequel]] is an OmnicidalManiac who seeks to devour all life in the galaxy so that he can sate his hunger. His associate Darth Sion isn't much better, as his only real goal is to kill every Jedi he can find so he can do whatever he wants unopposed.
** [[BigBad Dark Jedi Master Jerec]] of ''VideoGame/JediKnightDarkForcesII'' was considered to be even ''[[CompleteMonster worse]]'' than [[TheEmperor Darth Sidious]]. While the Sith [[EvenEvilHasStandards actually have principles they live by]], Jerec had absolutely none, being a sadistic murderer [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil and rapist]] who [[DecapitationPresentation publicly displayed the head of Kyle Katarn's father Morgan on a spike]] prior to the events of the ''Dark Forces'' series.
* Eventually, everyone who plays ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAuto'' gets powerful and bored/pissed off enough that they become this. Ditto any other crime sandbox game. Protagonist-wise, Trevor Phillips of ''Videogame/GrandTheftAutoV'' is the closest to this and is stated to be inspired by the mindset of said players.
* Black Whirlwind from ''VideoGame/JadeEmpire'', an AxCrazy mercenary whose chaotic and impulsive actions (sleeping with his employer's wife, cutting a girl two rivals were fighting over in half) normally end in him having to kill everyone in self defense.
* ''Franchise/ResidentEvil'':
** Albert Wesker. By ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil5'', he hates everyone in the world and seeks to genocide the human race. Plus half the things he did beforehand, from taking a preteen outbreak survivor prisoner to [[spoiler:injecting Jill with viruses and forcing her to aid him just so she can suffer]].
** Anything infected with the T-Virus. No matter how harmless or non-violent it was before, no matter the intelligence it has after (Some of them [[ItCanThink are quite smart]]), be it man, animal, vegetable, or mineral, you'd better believe it lives only to sow death and destruction once infected.
* Tira, Cervantes, and Nightmare in ''VideoGame/SoulSeries''. Soul Edge has rendered them all insane killing machines with little regard for who's on the other side of the blade.
* Kefka of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'', an AxCrazy, [[OmnicidalManiac Omnicidal]] MonsterClown and a Chaotic Evil hybrid of types 2 and 4. In the first part of the game he works for TheEmpire, but disobeys orders whenever he feels like it so he can, for example, gleefully slaughter a city and hear the people ''scream.'' In the second part [[spoiler:he is a PhysicalGod and rules over the world... Or rather, the scraps and ruins of it that are left]].
* Luca Blight from ''VideoGame/SuikodenII''. He murdered his own troops (specifically, the youth brigade, composed of ''teenagers'') and pinned the blame on the opposing side in order to put an end to a peace treaty, razed entire villages full of civilians, executed those who begged for their lives, attempted to cut a little girl in half while wearing a sinister grin on his face, assassinated his own father in order to become king, slaughtered the entire population of Muse in order to power-up a True Rune, pursued unarmed refugees and killed them... The list goes on and on.
%%** And his SpiritualSuccessor in ''VideoGame/SuikodenV'', Childerich.
* A chaotic evil character alignment is possible in ''VideoGame/{{Infamous}}'', just like in all sandbox games. ''Infamous'' is made distinct by the fact that the player has the option to choose their character alignment through their actions, and character alignment is actually a major element in the way that the game plays out. If you choose to be chaotic evil, then people will hate you, the city will descend deeper into crime and anarchy, and you will gain powers exclusive to evil characters.
%%* Albedo Piazolla from the ''VideoGame/{{Xenosaga}}'' series.
* Kerrigan from ''VideoGame/StarCraft'' once the ExpansionPack ''Brood War'' rolls around. [[spoiler:She plays TheChessmaster to get into power, and once there does whatever she feels like while massacring her remaining competition. She leaves Zeratul alive after forcing him to kill his Matriarch in order to free her, so that his "every waking moment will be torture." She also {{lampshades}} it by calling herself the "Queen Bitch of the universe."]]
* Hell is depicted this way in the ''VideoGame/{{Diablo}}'' mythos. Its denizens enjoy slaughtering and corrupting mortals, and hold chaos as a cosmic ideal to which all reality should bend. However, besides the Three Prime Evils who rule Hell, most of the forces of Hell seem to in fact be StupidEvil, and are perfectly willing to simply slaughter each other for all eternity.
* The Fiends from ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas'' are a gang of savage, drug-addicted killers who terrorize the wasteland and cause mayhem wherever they go. Some of their leaders in particular put even Caesar's Legion to shame in terms of cruelty. They are also the only story-important faction in the game that the player cannot befriend (aside from selling them drugs).
* The Umgah from ''VideoGame/StarControlII'' are a race of practical jokers who seem to have little to no loyalty to anyone or anything, even attacking the player after he saves their entire race, just for kicks and giggles. The fact that the Umgah's pranks are implied to cause the death of thousands, if not millions of sentient beings puts them squarely in the "evil" category. For example, they drop miles-wide meteors into the oceans of inhabited planets and consider it hilarious.
** The Kohr-Ah probably also qualify, as opposed to their LawfulEvil counterparts the Kzer-Za. The Kzer-Za believe that the key to their race's survival is to enslave everybody else, thus bringing order and hierarchy to the galaxy. The Kohr-Ah on the other hand believe that if there are no living sentient races, then they can never again be made slaves and kill. Anyone and everything that isn't them must die.
%%* Giygas from ''VideoGame/{{Earthbound}}'', and his subordinate Pokey/Porky [[spoiler:until [[VideoGame/Mother3 the sequel]], in which Porky becomes a LawfulEvil EvilOverlord.]]
* The Edel Bernal, the BigBad and TrueFinalBoss of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ'' is a perfect example of this alignment. He lives only for the pleasure of death and destruction and cause the dimensional collapse which resulted in the countless conflicts of the game for fun.
* Melissa and Meria, [[spoiler:the evil sides of the archangel Marietta]], from ''VideoGame/KnightsInTheNightmare'' fit the bill nicely. They cause massive bloodshed and chaos throughout the game for no reason other than ForTheEvulz. In fact, in Meria's route, if the player chooses, [[RageAgainstTheHeavens Meria can take her campaign of destruction all the way to the heavens]].
* Bishop of ''VideoGame/NeverwinterNights2'' is canonically a Type 3 Chaotic Evil human ranger. While not a sociopath, he is a major jerk, and will happily slaughter his way through anyone to achieve his goals. He firmly believes in {{Social Darwinis|t}}m, that the concept of civilization and culture are a total sham, and that everyone, even (or perhaps especially) him, is just a rabid animal waiting to strike. He [[spoiler:will also betray you during the siege on your fortress, claiming he is always on the winning side. It is possible to convince him later on not to attack you in the final battle of the game, though only if he likes/respects you enough.]].
** From the same game, Qara is listed as ChaoticNeutral, but her attitude and actions (overtly smug and sadistic, wanting to [[KillItWithFire kill everything she hates with fire]], and getting offended if you suggest she use her fire powers for ''practical'' purposes rather than mass murder) cause her to seem more like this. [[spoiler:Also, her reasons for betraying you are ''very'' petty (namely, you not letting her burn everything in sight), while Bishop at least does so because he doesn't think you can win, and there's no way to stop her from [[FaceHeelTurn Face Heel Turning]] without being a suck-up the whole game, unless you treat Sand even worse.]]
* The Postal Dude, and in fact, the ''VideoGame/{{Postal}}'' series embody this alignment. Basically the series is about doing whatever you feel like, which typically involves going postal against society.
* ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'''s Zagi may very well be the embodiment of this alignment. Not only is he AxCrazy to the nth degree, about 90% of his dialogue is either him giving an over the top EvilLaugh or a deranged non sequitur. To specify, he starts out as a PsychoForHire, but gradually [[spoiler:becomes a StalkerWithACrush towards Yuri and indulges in CyberneticsEatYourSoul just so he can have the satisfaction of defeating and killing him. It takes no less than ''five'' battles to finally defeat him.]] "Hahahaha! I'm gonna kill you and carve your name into my blood!"
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask'' has the EldritchAbomination Majora. Its host Skull Kid started out as merely a lonely kid who didn't know how to get attention other than pranks. After Majora possessed and corrupted him through the EvilMask, Skull Kid turned to seeking attention by playing gruesome, often lethal "games" with the population of Termina. When you actually fight Majora itself, it acts more like a PsychopathicManchild than anything else. This thing makes Ganondorf look friendly by comparison.
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'': Ganon, while typically NeutralEvil , has devolved into this. He is now known as [[EldritchAbomination The Calamity Ganon]] and will destroy the world entirely if he is set free.
* Dark Star/Dark Bowser from ''VideoGame/MarioAndLuigiBowsersInsideStory''. There's a good reason it's a SealedEvilInACan in the first place, that being that it's completely omnicidal without a cause (as in, wants to destroy the entire world and everything in it bar maybe itself). It also clones others via copying their DNA, which is... bad news when it gets eaten by Bowser.
-->''"Soon this kingdom will vanish along with all who dwell within. And you, too, will sleep eternally in the dark power's embrace!"''
* Shiro Tagachi from ''VideoGame/GuildWars''. He's bent on destroying the entire continent of Cantha (hence [[spoiler:the Jade Wind]]) and actively seeks revenge the entire time he's "dead".
%%* Charnel, the god of death, from ''VideoGame/{{Sacrifice}}''.
* ''VideoGame/Persona4'' has the Killer, [[spoiler:Tohru Adachi]]. He's a nihilistic asshole who murdered two people, duped the Second Suspect into taking up his murder attempts, and watched it all happen like a spectator at a ball game. His motivations boil down to him throwing a tantrum over his poor lot in life, lashing out over his SmallTownBoredom, and [[ForTheEvulz his own amusement]].
%%** [[spoiler:Mitsuo Kubo]].
* Gary Smith from ''VideoGame/{{Bully}}''. After the first chapter of the game, he schemes behind the scenes, then sets his master plan into action in the last chapter. He causes a riot, ties up the head, gets several kids expelled (sending several more through therapy), does enormous amounts of vandalism and destruction, lies to everyone, and calls your mother a whore. Why? ''Because he can!''
* Zevran Arainai of ''VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins'' is a rare example of a Chaotic Evil party member that's actually quite pleasant to be around, thanks to his wit and charm. He seems to mostly be a Type 1, given that freedom from the Antivan Crows is his primary concern, but he also shows little or no remorse for the lives he's taken up until that point. [[spoiler:His original nature seemed to be leaning towards Chaotic Good, but his enforced service to the Crows over a lifetime has generally winnowed away any morality he had, especially a few seriously tragic events. He can be brought back to CG with a Romance, or at LEAST Chaotic Neutral with enough approval, though he's still an assassin by trade. Zevran shows up in one quest for the sequel, and is now firmly CN, as he's more or less started assassinating the other assassins rather then taking marks himself, mostly because they won't stop trying (and failing) to kill him. He appears to be insuring his freedom by single-handedly dismantling the entire Antivan Crows organization bit by bit.]]
** Morrigan is also Chaotic Evil, leaning more towards Chaotic. She attaches great importance to personal freedom and disapproves of oppression throughout Thedas, but disapproves of any charitable acts and approves of some of your worst atrocities. It is notoriously difficult to play a Lawful Good type and still keep her approval high.
%%* ''VideoGame/{{Drakengard}}'' has Arioch, the [[AxCrazy insane]] female elf fighter, is probably Chaotic Evil herself; so was [[EnfanteTerrible the child]] Manah and the Grotesquieries.
* ''Franchise/BaldursGate'':
** Sarevok Anchev and Amelyssan the Blackhearted, the {{Big Bad}}s in ''VideoGame/BaldursGate'' and ''VideoGame/BaldursGateIIThroneOfBhaal'', are both good examples of intelligent, patient Chaotic Evil, though both also show a bit of a fiery temper in the short term in spite of being [[TheChessmaster Chessmasters]]. Both of their plans involve building alliances and beguiling everyone only to tear it all apart by having everyone kill everyone in an orgy of bloodshed so that they can have supreme power for themselves.
** Bodhi is a predatory, sadistic and bloodthirsty vampire, intelligent but somewhat unrestrained, who was originally motivated by lust for godly power and is now driven by revenge.
** Korgan [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Bloodaxe]] is everything you could ask for from an Chaotic Evil AxCrazy PsychoForHire. And he's on your side.
** Shar-Teel in the original game, where her BloodKnight tendencies are driven to the extreme due to her [[DoesNotLikeMen unadulterated hatred of men]].
** The necromancer Xzar is somewhat sadistic, lacks any empathy and is completely, utterly unhinged, varying between coldly sarcastic and cheerfully (or otherwise) insane.
** Tiax from the first game. A gnome thief/cleric of Cyric, Tiax is also totally insane, yelling to anyone who'll listen in a loud, over-the-top manner about how magnificent it will be once he rules the world -- with an iron fist, naturally. It's a little telling that you can find him in Spellhold, an asylum for mad mages that functions more as a lock-up-people-we-don't-like facility, and no-one's upset that he's there.
* Gig from ''VideoGame/SoulNomadAndTheWorldEaters''; brash, deceptive, impulsive, crude, attempts to solve all his long-term problems (mainly the one that there's people still alive on the same plane of existence as he) with simple short-term solutions (mainly killing everything in sight) and turned the protagonist's homeworld into a slowly dying dustbowl because he thinks wanton slaughter of mortals is ''fun''. Oh yeah, and he's on ''your'' side, which turns the game into a rather interesting case of being the KidWithTheLeash. Gig gets CharacterDevelopment during the story and ends up more of a ChaoticNeutral TheImp. [[spoiler:The good ending to the Demon Path also sees him overcome his LaserGuidedAmnesia and return to his LawfulGood former incarnation.]]
** The one guy who's worse than that: [[spoiler:you, in the Demon Path, who decides to just go kill everyone because he or she felt like it. Oh, and Gig in that storyline? Eventually, you [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness absorb him instead of the other way around]] if you win the final battle. Fun stuff.]]
%%*** The characters who join you in [[spoiler:The Demon Path]] can end up this way, notably [[spoiler:Thorndyke]].
%%** The other World Eaters also fit into here save for Feinne, who is barely sentient. Thuris could also be considered NeutralEvil.
* ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}}'':
** While the leadership of the Burning Legion was firmly LawfulEvil, the ''individual'' demons that comprise its ranks mostly fell into this alignment, being creatures of pure chaos and inherently destructive overall. Your average imp or felguard dud not care much for Sargeras's grand plan of purifying the cosmos: they just wanted to smash things, kill people and sate their magic addiction. An example of a named Legion character of this alignment would be the pit lord Mannoroth: there was nothing complex about his motivations like with Kil'jaeden or Sargeras himself, just rage and the desire to sow chaos.
** Deathwing the Destroyer, progenitor of the black dragonflight. The reason he first joined the Old Gods was to be free of his burden as the Dragon Aspect of Earth - which involved destroying said earth to free them in the process, but who carsd about that? He was a more reserved, manipulative character in his earlier appearances, but by the time of ''Cataclysm'', he had fully become the archetypical chaotic evil villain: a violent force of nature which sowed destruction, seemingly at random, for no reason other than rage and hatred. For that matter, most of the more insane followers of the Old Gods fit into that category as well.
** Sylvanas Windrunner, especially in ''Battle for Azeroth'' and onwards (prior to that she was more ChaoticNeutral). She's an unpredictable character - always scheming and plotting, but also prone to violent sadism and fits of rage - and seemingly has no other goal in her life than to remain alive and free, no matter the cost. She notably serves as a good contrast to Garrosh Hellscream, another evil Horde leader. Whereas Garrosh, as a LawfulEvil character, was a fanatic, keeping to orcish honour no matter how many would die to satisfy his hunger for war, Sylvanas voices her distaste for the concept, seeing it as a detriment to the success of the Horde and her own plans.
* Jeremy from ''VideoGame/{{Wild ARMs 4}}'' started out as NeutralEvil. However, when you face him for the last time, he's definitely descended into this alignment, [[spoiler:mainly because [[spoiler:becoming part-ARM]] made him completely AxCrazy.
* Most Daedra of ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls''. Sheogorath is the quintessential and [[AffablyEvil charming]] example, extremely powerful and more likely to send flaming pets raining down on a village as provide useful advice. The only rule he follows is that he won't make things more sane [[spoiler: ...except when his curse de-activates]]. In reality, though, Sheogorath is more like a pendulum that swings between Chaotic Evil, ChaoticNeutral and ChaoticGood (he is the prince of madness, after all). On the one hand, he's a psychopath and AxCrazy, on the other hand he helped the Chimer (who later became the dark elves) move from Summerset Isle and form their pre-tribunal culture. He's also very keen on punishing those that deserve it, or teaching lessons to people. And he invented music.
** Technically none of the Daedra qualify as [[BlueAndOrangeMorality their motives are so far above your head you can't comprehend it]]. If there were any, however, they would be Molag Bal, [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast ''King of Rape'']]; Boethia, who has aspects of anarchy and Darwinism; Mehrunes Dagon, who wants nothing more than to tear down creation; Vaermina, who rules over dreams and whose purpose is to torture everyone she can with the most horrifying nightmares possible; and Mephala, whose aspect is purposely veiled from mortal interpretation, but all she/he ever does is cause destruction and sow chaos. She also might be the patron of both assassin's guilds and destroys peace for the sake of it. The ironic thing here is that Boethia and Mephala, alongside Azura, are considered the ''good'' Daedra! Of course, of the three, only Azura is looked upon kindly outside of Morrowind.
* Goremand from ''VideoGame/TrialsOfMana'' brainwashes two best friends of the main characters into attacking them and helps the Dark Lich gain control of the Mana Sword just for giggles.
%%* [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Erol/Errol]] becomes this in ''VideoGame/Jak3Wastelander''.
* Omega from the ''VideoGame/MegaManZero'' series fits here, being a bloodthirsty machine of destruction.
* Leon the Black Knight from ''VideoGame/YggdraUnion'' is a bloodthirsty, batshit insane warrior who thinks nothing of slaughtering ''anyone'' who crosses him. He's probably the most evil character, along with the LawfulEvil Mardym.
* [[spoiler:Morinth]] from ''VideoGame/MassEffect2'' has a [[spoiler:genetic condition that kills the people she has sex with, and spends her time manipulating people into adoring her, then kills them with said condition when she's bored of them. Once, she used Samara's KnightTemplar code to force Samara to kill a village of people she'd brainwashed into worshipping her as a goddess.]]
** Renegade Shepard sometimes shows signs of this. Unless roleplayed otherwise, the majority of his/her actions lean more towards ChaoticNeutral, but sometimes there are some renegade actions that have no real justification, such as urging a drug addled civilian to throw himself at a band of mercenaries for shits and giggles, and manipulating Annoleis and Gianna into killing each other when he could have gotten what he wanted from them in a much more straight forward way.
** ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'' allows you to go on a [[TeamKiller team-killing]] rampage--[[spoiler:[=Ashley/Kaiden=], Legion, Mordin, and Wrex]] can all be put down by Shepard, depending on the choices made. However, Renegade Shepard here is far more ChaoticNeutral, even ChaoticGood in some places. A Renegade in ''Mass Effect 3'' basically believes that sacrifice is necessary, while the Paragon wants to save everyone they can. Both have their flaws.
* ''VideoGame/{{BlazBlue}}'''s Yuuki Terumi (a.k.a. Hazama) has, as his apparant overall plot, the desire to create the Kusanagi, the sword of the godslayer. To do this, he's performed almost every single atrocity that occurs in the game towards any of the other characters. And we mean everything . He fucked up Ragna's life by cutting off his arm and kidnapping his sister, fucked up Jin's life by giving him the sword that messed with his mind, fucked up Noel's life by turning her into the Kusanagi (not that anything had gone well for her before), fucked up Arakune's life by turning him into the monster he is, etc. He is nearly impossible to control or predict (partly due to his [[AxCrazy destructive impulses]] and partly due to his [[CrazyPrepared plans upon plans upon plans upon plans upon plans]]) and absolutely hates to receive orders. And thus far, his actions have mainly been ForTheEvulz. When ''Chronophantasma'' is revealed, it only takes to the end of the promoting trailer until he reveals his other goal which is also encompassed in Kusanagi: ToCreateAPlaygroundForEvil where all humans kill each other while he just watches in amusement because that's what he considered entertaining. Needless to say, he's one of the more dangerous Type 4 Chaotic Evil characters with a bloodcurdling portion of Type 2 NeutralEvil thrown in for good meassure.
* ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'''s I-No, who is responsible for [[spoiler:plunging the whole world into Armageddon after killing Ky Kiske out of amusement in one timeline until That Man intervenes and resets the timeline]]. She is nearly impossible to control or predict (due to her [[AxCrazy destructive impulses]] and her [[CrazyPrepared contant use of her time-travel abilities to travel to the past as many times as she wants and change it in her image]]) and absolutely hates to receive orders. And, thus far, her actions have mainly been ForTheEvulz.
* {{Dracula}}, the BigBad of the ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'' franchise. He turns to the psychotic mass murder of humans to avenge his beloved wife. In ''VideoGame/CastlevaniaChroniclesOfSorrow'', Soma Cruz, who is normally ChaoticGood, could become this as well if he sees the same fate happening in front of his very eyes.
* Vanitas from ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'' is supposed to be TheDragon to Master Xehanort, but it's made quite clear that he's a DragonWithAnAgenda who only works for Xehanort because it allows him to do as much evil as he pleases. Justified given that he's [[spoiler:made of nothing but darkness.]]
%%* ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'': Psycho Mantis, [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty Vamp]], and [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater Volgin]] qualify as this.
* [[spoiler:Constantine]], the villain from ''[[VideoGame/{{Thief}} Thief: The Dark Project]]'' wanted nothing less than causing the world to return to chaos.
* Vaas from ''VideoGame/FarCry3'' is a psychopath leading the pirates that occupy the game's setting of Rook island. Most conversations with him begin with [[FauxAffablyEvil uncanny attempts at pleasantness on his part]] which then proceed into violent death threats issued [[HairTriggerTemper at the slightest provocation]]. Nowhere else is his madness more apparent than his infamous "definition of insanity speech".
* NEXUS from ''VideoGame/Warzone2100'' is the Type 2 variety, who [[spoiler:destroyed human civilization]] because EvilFeelsGood.
* [[spoiler:Marx]] from ''VideoGame/KirbySuperStar'' tricks Kirby into summoning NOVA under the pretense of wishing for the sun and moon to stop fighting. In reality, it's so that [[spoiler:Marx]] can wish to control Pop Star, allowing him to "cause all the mischief [he] wants".
* Vladimir Makarov from ''VideoGame/CallOfDuty'' attacks a Russian airport to get Russia to attack the US [[spoiler:(which Shepherd exploited)]] and is shown to have no loyalty to the Ultranationalists, despite being one himself.
* Raul Menendez from ''VideoGame/CallOfDutyBlackOps'' is a very [[VisionaryVillain charismatic]] version of Chaotic Evil, described as an anarchist whose main goal is toppling Western civilization in revenge for his family's death and leave it on equal ground with third-world nations, and is referred to as "[[DarkMessiah Messiah of the 99%]]" by his loyal followers, who seek to end the corrupt reign of the 1%.
* Jenna Angel from ''VideoGame/DigitalDevilSaga'' is a Type 1, believing that the only way to create a free society in a world where sunlight is deadly to all but demons [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans is to give everyone an equal chance by having them turn into demons and introducing utter chaos]], though it is also due to [[spoiler:her desire for revenge for the death of her lover due to people believing he was a danger despite trying to find a cure for the disease caused by the sunlight.]]
* J. D. Thorne from ''[[VideoGame/TronTwoPointOh Tron 2.0]]'' has the dubious distinction of being the only true Chaotic Evil character in the ''Franchise/{{Tron}}'' universe. The movie villains are LawfulEvil, the other villains in the game are NeutralEvil. Once Thorne is in the system and merged with TheCorruption, all he cares about is his status as a "Master User" and corrupting more and more Programs and systems with his disease.
%%** [[spoiler: [=Ma3a=]]] also goes from LawfulGood to this alignment due to some bad code.
* ''Franchise/MortalKombat'':
** Shao Kahn. In the war between the realms of Order and Chaos, the forces of Chaos want to put Kahn back on the throne of Outworld, because under his rule the only law was "obey Shao Kahn" and he didn't really give a crap about what anyone else was doing. He promoted infighting and competition amongst his minions in a "divide and rule" policy to the point where the Centaur and Shokan races went to war with one another to curry his favour (and thus gain more power). While is goal is to merge all the realms with Outworld and rule over everything, it's an ambition based solely on ego and a lust for conquest and power, and as long as he holds absolute power he doesn't really care about how his people live their day to day lives, though it tends to be pretty miserable, desperate and violent thanks to how sadistic and brutish he is.
** Havik from the Realm of Chaos is either this or ChaoticNeutral, in the sense that he promotes Chaos as an ideal throughout the realms and actively opposes the Realm of Order and its plans. In ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatArmageddon Armageddon]]'' both he and Hotaru, the Order champion, were on the side of Evil, though that's mostly because there wasn't a OrderVersusChaos thing going on.
** Quan Chi. In ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatDeadlyAlliance Deadly Alliance]]'' both he and Shao Kahn are mentioned as using the Mortal Kombat tournament "to destroy all that is good", and in the earlier ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat4 Mortal Kombat Gold]]'' he tells Baraka that his only goal is to obtain power...which apparently entails [[OmnicidalManiac killing everyone everywhere]] so that he doesn't have to "hold coil" to them, ie. he thinks ultimate power, by definition, ''has'' to mean zero responsibility, and he'll KillEmAll to ensure no one so much as tries to make him responsible for anything. And lets not get started on his ChronicBackstabbingDisorder.
** In ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatDeception Deception]]'', Kabal performs a FaceHeelTurn and reforms The Black Dragon as a Chaotic Evil organization out to cause global anarchy. Thanks to a CosmicRetcon, this became an AbortedArc and last time we saw him he was still a hero, [[spoiler:a dead hero.]]
* The Crusaders faction of the Resistance of Praetoria in ''VideoGame/CityOfHeroes'' fit this neatly. While the resistance as a whole is trying to overthrow the oppressive government -- which will have dangers and consequences -- the Crusaders' methods are monstrous, including blowing up hospitals to teach the populace that Emperor Cole can't protect them. Some Crusaders are {{Well Intentioned Extremist}}s, but others just like destruction.
* Mr. Scratch, the BigBad of ''VideoGame/AlanWakesAmericanNightmare'', fits this alignment quite nicely. For reference, take a gander at his monologue before he tortures a man to death:
-->'''Mr. Scratch:''' This poor slob's just collateral damage, really. I mean, I beat some information out of him earlier. But this part? (Pulls off the man's tie.) [[ForTheEvulz This is just for kicks.]] (Begins choking him.)
* Assault Bomber from ''VideoGame/{{Bomberman}} Generation'' is easily Chaotic Evil. He is overly obsessed with death and destruction and will do anything to achieve it. He is malevolent and EXTREMELY psychotic to the point of having no self-control whatsoever. His title is "the Reaper of the Crush Bombers" for a reason.
* Darkwraiths in ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'', Covenant of Darkstalker Kaathe, the primordial serpent. The Darkwraiths seek to preserve Humanity, and thus collect it in order to prevent the feeding of Bonfires. Unlike the Way of White, they wish to end the Age of Fire and to usher in the Age of Darkness.
* Ridley in the ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'' franchise is a bloodthirsty petrodactyl-like villain who revels in wreaking destruction across the galaxy, and is responsible for the murder of Samus' parents during his raid on her home planet. The Space Pirates make him their general due to his extremely evil nature and immense power.
* Smithy's Gang in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'' are [[AlwaysChaoticEvil Chaotic Evil in general]], but the Axem Rangers define themselves as such in their BadassCreed.
-->'''Axem Red:''' ''We fight for evil!''
-->'''Axem Black:''' ''We live for disorder!''
-->'''Axem Green:''' ''We like what we do!''
-->'''Axem Pink:''' ''We struggle for chaos!''
-->'''Axem Yellow:''' ''We are...''
--> '''All''': ''... THE AXEM RANGERS!''
* The Xenon from the ''VideoGame/{{X}}-Universe'' series are a very hard Type 3. They are the descendants of the original {{Terraformers}}, a collection of highly advanced robots created by the Terrans to locate and colonize planets into habitability. In the 2140s, an idiotic programmer [[AIIsACrapshoot bungled a software patch]] and caused the Terraformers to go rogue and attempt to "terraform" all other life into extinction; only the brave and successful attempts of luring the now insane Terraformers to a gate and the subsequent destruction of it by a particular Terran task force (who would later become the Argons) saved the Terrans from extinction. The Xenon was born as a splinter group from the original Terraformers and view all organic life as prey fit for extinction.
* The BigBadDuumvirate of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' are both this. Iblis is a type 2, [[AlmightyIdiot a mindless destructive force]] that consumes [[BadFuture the entire future world in fire]]. Mephiles the Dark is a type 4, a ManipulativeBastard seeking to unleash the latter via a scheme thats [[ComplexityAddiction needless complexity]] is best rationalized as ForTheEvulz.
** Infinite from ''VideoGame/SonicForces''. A [[{{Sadist}} Sadistic Maniac]] who [[TheDreaded wants everyone to fear him]] due to his [[ArtifactOfDoom Phantom Ruby]].
* Sliske in ''VideoGame/{{Runescape}}'' tries to turn the PC into a wright just because he thinks they would make a good addition to their collection, kills Guthix and tries to incite a second God War just to make things more interesting.
* Irving from ''VideoGame/GodsWillBeWatching'' is a torturer who loves his job because it lets him hurt people all he wants and get paid for it. He works for the Holistic Empire because they don't believe in such things as equality or human rights, allowing the strong to rise on their own merits, and, again, because their lack of human rights means he gets to torture prisoners. He and his silent partner are the only unambiguously evil characters in a game full of GrayAndGreyMorality.
* The Pack from the Nuka World DLC of ''VideoGame/Fallout4'' lean towards this. Taking the feral concept of nature that only the toughest survive is largely their role. Howling, watching dog fights, and treating each other like animals makes them resemble an ancient tribe, particularly the more bloodthirsty kinds.
* [[spoiler:The Paranoid Incarnation]] in ''VideoGame/PlanescapeTorment'' is canonically Chaotic Evil, and reading his memoirs explains a lot of it. Almost completely insane and extremely individualistic, he spent most of his life trying to come up with far-fetched scenarios to protect himself, murdering people who were trying to help him for being 'useless', and left a lot of traps and pain behind him to spite [[spoiler:all the other Incarnations of The Nameless One for 'stealing his body'. Despite all this, it is entirely possible to feel pity for him when you finally meet, simply because he couldn't handle the torment inherent to being who he was.]]
* ''Franchise/FireEmblem'':
** [[BigBad Zephiel]] from ''VideoGame/FireEmblemTheBindingBlade'' ''looks'' like a typical LawfulEvil villain, as he rules over [[TheEmpire Bern]] with a HundredPercentAdorationRating, and orders his military to [[TakeOverTheWorld conquer the continient of Elibe]]. However, [[spoiler:he's actually a MisanthropeSupreme that wants to destroy all of humanity, including himself and his people, so that the dragons can populate the land in their place]]. Achieving the GoldenEnding requires the player to not only stop his conquest of Elibe, but also [[spoiler:the dragons under his command from bringing about the destruction of humanity]].
** ''VideoGame/FireEmblemPathOfRadiance'' has the BigBad Ashnard. In addition to being violently and malevolently insane, [[spoiler:his ultimate goal is to use the power of the dark goddess to turn all of Tellius into a SocialDarwinist anarchy where only power holds sway. He wouldn't look out of place in a ''Franchise/ShinMegamiTensei'' game.]]
* ''VideoGame/{{Tyranny}}'':
** The Voices of Nerat, Archon of Secrets and leader of the [[TheHorde Scarlet Chorus]], is a Type 2 with shades of Type 4. He’s a cruel and sadistic CourtJester who loves to cause mayhem, encourages KlingonPromotion among his forces, and routinely asks the PlayerCharacter to send important allies his way so he can consume their minds. Despite his love of mayhem, he willingly serves [[EvilOverlord Kyros]] and (in theory, at least) takes care never to truly piss off his liege. He is also a babbling lunatic who is [[MadHatter well aware of his own insanity]], as well as a brilliant schemer; [[spoiler: if killed, it is mentioned in the epilogue that some of his former Mooks think HesJustHiding]]
** Verse, one of Nerat’s EliteMooks, is more of a Type 1 with elements of Type 3 (the latter being openly encouraged in the Chorus). She is less sadistic than Nerat, being less willing to kill innocent people ([[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals just people, though]]). She also JumpedAtTheCall to join the Chorus, not being interested in the settled life she lived on her mother’s farm. In keeping with her Type 3 elements, she’s of the belief that the strong should lead, [[KlingonPromotion murdering their way to the top]] if necessary. [[spoiler: If taken to fight the Voices, she claims that Nerat has grown weak and needs to be replaced.]]
** Kills-in-Shadow is [[BeastMan literally]] a Type 3. She is a bloodthirsty predator who willingly pledges herself to the player character, but only because she is convinced that the player character is powerful; she makes clear when joining that her loyalty is purely a matter of strength and she will readily turn on the player character if she is convinced they have grown weak. She is protective of younger packmates, though, be they fellow Beasts she looked after or fellow allies of the player character.
** Bleden Mark is primarily a Type 4 with elements of Type 1. He has no interest in power or laws; he only serves [[EvilOverlord Kyros]] because his attempt to kill [[AmbiguousGender him/her]] failed and Kyros offered mercy in exchange for service. He enjoys killing people, so as long as Kyros and [[NobleTopEnforcer Tunon]] give him fun targets to take out, he’s willing to continue serving them, though [[spoiler: a sufficiently interesting player character can convince him to serve them instead.]]
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'': Several champions are rampaging maniacs in various forms. Aatrox, Brand, and Cho'gath, as {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s, are probably the most "evil", while the most "chaotic" are Shaco, an {{Expy}} of ComicBook/TheJoker, and Kled, a mushroom-addled lunatic who flies into a murderous rage whenever anyone other than himself or Skaarl is on "his property", a category that -- according to Kled -- includes pretty much every inch of Valoran.
-->'''Kled:''' Yeah, I like it out here. [[BreadEggsMilkSquick Freedom, communin' with nature, killin' hikers]].
* ''VideoGame/PathfinderKingmaker'', having the TropeMaker's alignment system, has several canonical examples, some of whom are party members:
** Tartuccio, a GuestStarPartyMember from the tutorial and later TheRival of your character for the first chapter. Tartuccio is a vain, backstabbing, manipulative and mean little bastard with no standards or morals and [[spoiler:also a spy for Pitax]]. No matter which way the parties end up splitting Tartuccio quickly throws his other teammates under the bus for his own benefit.
** Rengongar is a former slave from Numeria whose life was made a living hell by being a test subject for 'awakening' magic potential. Having been set free by the PlayerCharacter, Rengongar wants revenge on his former captors and to make sure he's never hurt again, and is willing to throw everyone else to the wolves to keep his own freedom. As long as he's ''not'' under direct threat, however, he's completely affable and friendly and has a MoralityPet in his life companion [[ChaoticGood Octavia]]. Depending on how their personal quest ends up, Octavia can end up rubbing off on him and make him change alignment (it can also go the opposite way).
** Nok-Nok is a goblin convinced he's TheChosenOne of the GodOfEvil Lammasu, making him a goblin hero. Like most ''TabletopGame/{{Pathfinder}}'' goblins (who are NeutralEvil) he combines a complete lack of impulse control with a SocialDarwinist outlook and rampant pyromania, and adds to it an even more selfish streak and a love of stabbing things. Like Rengongar, he's perfectly nice to the PlayerCharacter as he sees you as a sidekick/mentor who will help him reach his destiny.
** The majority of the game's {{Arc Villain}}s are Chaotic Evil, like the Stag Lord, Tartuk and Hargulka, [[spoiler:Armag, Irovetti, and the game's BigBad Nyrissa as well.]]
* Similarly, the sequel ''VideoGame/PathfinderWrathOfTheRighteous'' has several:
** The Demon ascension path is chaotic evil, and a Commander who embraces it gets a lot of alignment shifts in that direction and ultimately has to embrace it to continue the path to its apex. The majority of the game's demons and cultists, such as Deskari, Minagho, Nocticula and Bathomet are chaotic evil as well.
** [[spoiler:Camilla]] is a sociopathic SerialKiller hiding under a veneer of polite helpfulness. While clever enough to know how to survive by making themselves useful to greater powers, they are impulsive, murderous and can at best fake empathy and sympathy for others. They still despise and oppose the demons, however, because a society run by demons is too openly depraved for them to get their jollies.
** [[spoiler:Nurah]] is another secretly chaotic evil character. A former slave, the hypocrisy of watching 'good' realms and beings permit the system that abused and imprisoned them caused them to snap and pledge themselves to the demonic cause, seeing the open MightMakesRight system the demons practice to be more honest.
** Finally, the [[WormThatWalks Swarm-that-Walks]] ascension path is also chaotic evil, in the same sense that, say, [[OmnicidalManiac a world-ending meteorite is evil if the meteorite was sentient and could choose whether or not to impact on a planet]]. Driven by nothing but hunger and the desire to eat and assimilate everything not them, a Swarm-that-Walks Commander is the one entity in the Crusade vile enough that ''no-one'', including characters who have no issue with other ascension paths, will work with.
* The [[BigBadDuumvirate Serpent Riders]] from the ''VideoGame/{{Heretic}}'' and ''VideoGame/{{Hexen}}'' games. While given little in game characterization, they are definitely evil and implied to be chaotic as the source of their power is called the ''Chaos'' sphere.
* Caleb from ''VideoGame/{{Blood}}''. Despite being the [[VillainProtagonist main character]], he's still a former worshipper of [[GodOfEvil Tchernobog]] and is motivated solely by desire for revenge. Ironically, Tchernobog and [[ReligionOfEvil The Cabal]] count as this alignment as well [[EvilVersusEvil despite being the antagonists.]]
* ''VideoGame/GodOfWarIII'': Kratos, hands down, is the avatar of Chaos through this game, murdering civilians for sport on his way to achieving vengance against the gods and unleashing environmental disasters on the world as they die. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgyjPS_uJTA&ab_channel=GamesMediaPro As quoted in this trailer]]:
--> '''Zeus''': In the end, he will suffer. In the end, we will triumph. In the end-
--> '''Kratos''': There will be only chaos.
* The ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' series has William Afton/The Purple Man. He killed roughly around 11 kids for seemingly no reason other than ForTheEvulz, and only becomes more eager to continue killing when he became Springtrap. The sixth game also implies that he deliberately set his own daughter to possess Circus Baby so she could become a murderer like himself.

[[folder:Live-Action TV]]
* The psychological crime series ''Series/{{Hannibal}}'' is overflowing with serial killers, but the giggling, gleeful Mason Verger stands out as particularly nasty. With little to no motive, he physically and probably sexually tortures his own sister and God knows how many others and mixes their tears into martinis. He also raises pigs to eat human flesh because, hey, why not? Not to mention when he [[spoiler:kidnaps and paralyzes his sister in order to give her a surprise abortion.]]
%%* ''Series/{{Heroes}}'' has quite a few: Sylar (when he isn't trying to make a HeelFaceTurn) is a mix of Type 3 and Type 4 ("evolutionary imperative", anyone?), Elle Bishop is a Type 1, and Sylar's dad was a Type 3 in his day [[spoiler:(and tries to become one again when he learns that Sylar has a power that grants him {{Immortality}})]].
* The Reavers from ''{{Series/Firefly}}''. If given half a chance, they'll rape you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into their clothing. And if you're very, very lucky, they'll do it InThatOrder. What's especially ironic about them is that [[spoiler:they were created by a group of LawfulStupid scientists in a botched attempt to find a drug that would render mankind completely good, peaceful and law-abiding]].
* Arlo Givens from ''Series/{{Justified}}'' is an impulsively violent, abusive, selfish man. It's established throughout the series that some of his flaws are brought on by bipolar disorder and possibly even some form of dementia or schizophrenia. However, even when lucid and medicated, Arlo will do just about anything to save himself, up to and including stealing from his wife and attempting to betray his son to a murderous drug cartel. He has no respect for family, tradition, or any institution other than his own person. Even when given the chance to help himself by being an informant for the Marshals' Service, he's unable to commit to any form of orderly or responsible behavior.
-->'''Raylan:''' You know tornado weather? Sky turns green, and you know something's coming. Some days, that's the way it was in the house. Arlo would ask a question, you tried desperately to come up with the right answer, what he wanted to hear, except there wasn't any right answer at all. It was going south no matter what you said or did.
* The coldly stoic Marlo Stanfield of ''Series/TheWire'' demonstrates how Chaotic Evil doesn't necessarily mean stark-raving mad evil. He is simply Chaotic because there isn't a single thing about human life that matters to him, and is driven less by a desire for profit and more by his desire to prove his name. There isn't a single thing he won't do, no line he won't cross, to achieve what he wants.
* The Shadows from ''Series/BabylonFive'' are perceived like this in the beginning -- an ancient, sinister race that emerges from the deepest bowels of the cosmos to annihilate everything in its path with world-shattering firepower and insidious treachery. The truth turns out to be a bit more complicated. Essentially, they ''are'' everything mentioned above, except that [[WellIntentionedExtremist their ultimate goal is to kick-drive their enemies (whom they actually see as students) up the evolutionary and technological ladder]]. Thus, they are perfectly happy when they eventually lose the battle and are driven away to return in a thousand years for another "lesson".
* Anubis of ''Series/StargateSG1''. The Goa'uld themselves are already as evil as (if not worse than) Adolf Hitler. Anubis was banished by the Goa'uld because he was ''[[EvenEvilHasStandards too evil even for them]]''. Ultimately, his goal was to erase all life in the galaxy and replace it with new creations that would worship him as a god.
%%* ''Series/ICarly'': Nevel. He hasn't killed anyone, but, well, it's a kid show. He has some super creepy scenes involving a wall of monitors featuring slow motion close-ups of Carly.
* Davros of ''Series/DoctorWho'', MadScientist creator of the AlwaysChaoticEvil Daleks. Anything that isn't Dalek is on his "[[OmnicidalManiac to kill]]" list, including his own species. He's completely batshit insane and immune to any kind of reason or attempts at negotiation.
** An argument could be made that his creations, the Daleks are LawfulEvil members of a Chaotic Evil race. Consider that an individual Dalek obeys authority unquestioningly, submits to strict rules of behaviour and never ever thinks for itself, while the Dalek Emperor and its underlings, the Dalek Supremes, enforce those rules and orders and expect to never be questioned. But the entire race when viewed as a whole has only one desire: [[OmnicidalManiac destroy everything that is not Dalek]]. This is the textbook definition of an AlwaysChaoticEvil race.
** The resurrected Master is basically undead, eata people, and alternatively wants to blast the Doctor with energy bolts or ignores him. His behavior is erratic, and he works with people and then betrays them. That, and he's [[AxCrazy batshit insane]]. [[spoiler:To be fair, Rassilon can be blamed for a lot, if not all, of that. He implanted in the Master's head the drumbeat that caused him to go insane as part of his BatmanGambit to end the Time War, making him indirectly responsible for ''all the Master's villainous actions throughout the history of the show''. The Master's HeroicSacrifice towards the end of ''The End of Time'' suggests that Chaotic Evil is not really his true nature, but simply a consequence of what was done to him.]]
** The Black Guardian is an AnthropomorphicPersonification of Chaos and is pretty evil, wanting to throw the Universe into eternal chaos.
** Despite trying to seem ChaoticGood, it could be argued the Tenth Doctor veers toward Chaotic Evil. As [[http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/doctor-who/images/23303780/title/good-neutral-evil-doctors-ranks-photo this]] image argues "Who else could drown your children and put you into an eternal prison?" In ''The Waters of Mars'' he certainly seems to slip towards this, deciding that as the Last of the Time Lords he has command over the Laws of Time. There is even an argument that the Tenth Doctor's death was partially due to him thinking he was slipping too far into this territory. If it wasn't for him regenerating into Eleven, then [[FridgeHorror who knows how far-gone he could have become]]?
%%** The Valeyard originally seems LawfulEvil but Big Finish Unbound shows that if he had won he would have become Chaotic Evil.
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'':
** Angelus, a vampiric SerialKiller who liked to watch his victims crumble -- for years in Drusilla's case -- before finishing them off.
** Glory tells one of her minions that her power lies not in mercy, but in torture, death, and chaos. She's a vapid and shallow bully who just happens to be able to break buildings down with her fists and drink people's sanity through their skulls, and mostly just wants to have fun like just an immortal, insane hellgod can.
** Warren Mears. Unlike most of the show's villains, he's not a demon, vampire, or other kind of supernatural creature, just a regular (though impossibly intelligent) guy who got bored one day and decided he wanted to be a SuperVillain. His lackeys Jonathan and Andrew believe in [[NobleDemon maintaining a certain standard of ethics in super-villainy]], which prevents them from actively trying to kill Buffy, but Warren feels this goes against the whole point of being evil in the first place.
** In general, Vampires and demons (well, the genuinely malevolent ones for the latter, since as the franchise goes on, [[GrayingMorality more heroic and/or sympathetic demon characters are introduced]]) tend to be of this alignment. While a few, like The Master, Mayor Wilkins, and Halfrek, seem to have some kind of bizarre, twisted code of honor, generally the only rule with these supernatural monsters is that there ''are'' no rules. Justified with vampires since each is basically TheHeartless mixed in with a RevenantZombie - Namely, a human corpse who has the original person's soul replaced with [[EldritchAbomination an extradimensional and hostile demonic spirit]], and the demonic spirit in question then builds a personality for itself based after the (usually negative) memories of the original person in life.
* Rounding out the trifecta of "true" villains in ''Series/{{Oz}}'', along with LawfulEvil Vern Schillinger and NeutralEvil Ryan O'Reilly, ScaryBlackMan Simon Adebisi definitely fits this alignment. He's even AffablyEvil at times...[[MemeticMolester right up to the]] PrisonRape.
* Takeshi Asakura/Kamen Rider Ouja from ''Series/KamenRiderRyuki''. There's nothing [[DracoInLeatherPants romantic]] or [[BlackAndGrayMorality grey]] about his character: he's an [[AxCrazy insane serial killer]] with an [[BloodKnight uncontrollable compulsion for violence]].

** Dick Roman, and Leviathans in general, are {{Eldritch Abomination}}s who hate everything other than themselves and seek to kill all other forms of life.
** [[{{Satan}} Lucifer]], though he was originally some kind of Lawful, has definitely become this by his first appearance. His main goal is to KillAllHumans out of jealousy that God loves them more than him, but he's also an AbsoluteXenophobe, plotting the extinction of pagan gods for no apparent reason, and even [[spoiler:wanting to eliminate his ''own minions'', the demons]].

* ''Series/OnceUponATime'':
** Peter Pan was a strict Type 4, while his past self, Malcom, was a Type 1. As Malcom, he was a sleazy ConMan who would try to scam people out of their money and was neglectful toward his son, and then he abandoned him. Though he was a heartless {{Jerkass}}, he wasn't really a terrible threat. After de-aging and becoming Peter Pan thanks to the magic of Neverland, he's become far more calculating and patient, willing to formulate plans that would take centuries to come into fruition. However, his plan only boils down to "[[AndShowItToYou Take Henry's heart]], become a PhysicalGod, [[TheCaligula rule Neverland forever]]". When the heroes [[TokenEvilTeammate and Regina and Rumple]] foil his plans, his new plan is [[EvilIsPetty to cast a new curse where they all suffer forever because they foiled his plan.]]
** Zelena[=/=]The Wicked Witch of the West bounced between a Type 1 and Type 2 example. In her introduction, her motive is simply to get revenge on Regina [[GreenEyedMonster because she got to live the life that Zelena couldn't]]. Aside from this, she had no clearly defined goal, though she was willing to harm anyone if she thought it would help in her revenge scheme. This is due in part to her [[HairTriggerTemper wildly aggressive emotions]], which was why Rumplestiltskin didn't choose her to cast the curse.

[[folder:Tabletop Games]]
* ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'': The TropeNamer, TropeCodifier, and nearly TropeMaker (though definitely not UrExample); makes explicit use of the term all the time, so it's easy to find examples.
** The Demons have defined Chaotic Evil since the game's beginnings. Their plane of origin, the Abyss, embodies Chaotic Evil as a concept, and it possesses infinite layers, each more horribly evil than the last -- think of it as Hell, only messier.
** Among dragonkind, Red, White and Black dragons are Chaotic Evil, along with Deep, Shadow and Yellow dragons.
** Even when they aren't ''[[AlwaysChaoticEvil Always]]'' Chaotic Evil, [[OurOrcsAreDifferent orcs]] in ''D&D'' are usually portrayed with a Chaotic Evil culture that rewards backstabbing, vicious shows of strength, and no compassion whatsoever to the weak or other races. This is also true for [[TheOgre ogres]], [[AllTrollsAreDifferent trolls]], [[OurGoblinsAreDifferent bugbears]], several (but not all) [[OurGiantsAreBigger giant subraces]], and various other humanoids. Prior to 3rd Edition, orcs were actually listed as LawfulEvil and portrayed with a rigid social structure; this was later dropped to make them more barbaric, and the Lawful Evil alignment became a more distinctive trait of the hobgoblins.
** The drow are a race of subterranean elves that, due to the insane level of devotion they have their goddess Lolth, have developed a culture that revolves around subterfuge and treachery. Drow are always looking for ways to increase their own power, while watching their own backs for others looking to depose them. It has been mentioned in the source books that the drow should have gone extinct long ago, due to the constant power struggles, but it is purely through Lolth's will that they remain alive. They were changed to "usually NeutralEvil" in the 3rd edition, however, with Lolth remaining Chaotic Evil.
** Tharizdun is an OmnicidalManiac EldritchAbomination who was NeutralEvil until 4th edition, for some reason (see his entry in Neutral Evil for the explanation). In 4e, he created the Abyss, and as a result of his madness, his angels have turned into giant cyclopean monsters which roam through the Astral Sea eating things. If he ever breaks his chains, most of the universe is screwed. The following might be the best explanation for why Tharizdun ''wasn't'' Chaotic Evil in earlier Editions: "'''CHAOTIC EVIL:''' The Chaotic Evil creature holds that individual freedom and choice is important, and that other individuals and their freedoms are unimportant if they cannot be held by the individuals through their own strength and merit. Thus, law and order rends to promote not individuals but groups, and groups suppress individual volition and success." -- ''1st. Editon DMG'' Chaos as individualism and Evil as brutality and cruelty.
** Dagon, a sea demon that helps Demogorgon for unknown reasons of his own, is the calm, intelligent, and ''patient'' Chaotic Evil. Also, he is intentionally modeled after Lovecraft's Dagon. Only worse. Yes, ''that'' Lovecraft.
** The Archons of 4e are disciplined, regimented, and highly organized, and you'd think they were personifications of Lawful Neutral or Lawful Evil. However, they are living weapons whose sole reason to exist is to kill everything else that exists. They're not really sentient, as such, just pure, highly developed, militaristic instinct — they don't squabble over power because each instinctively knows how strong it is and how it relates to other Archons in that regard. They do act as mercenaries, but that's merely a way to acquire treasure (to lure would-be thieves to them so they can fight them) and an excuse to kill. They have no understanding of mercy, kindness, love, peace or anything that doesn't revolve around killing... and they have no capacity to learn to understand such concepts. To live is to kill. To kill is to live. There is nothing else to Archons. They are elemental Franchise/{{Terminator}}s.
** 4th edition also changed Slaadi from ChaoticNeutral to this, on the justification that they are so ChaoticStupid they are {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s. They want to tear apart the very rules that hold reality together; they revere Chaos that much.
* ''TabletopGame/{{Pathfinder}}'' has a couple examples, even without considering the countless monsters and characters with that as their official alignment.
** Each of the Chaotic Evil humanoids is given their own different take on the alignment ([[YouAreACreditToYourRace with a few exceptions]]). Orcs are just stupid and barbaric, living lives of savagery because they can't imagine doing anything else. Ogres are a race of {{Psychopathic Manchild}}ren who engage in all kinds of depravity to sate their lust and gluttony. Bugbears are perhaps the worst of all, committing mass murder not for the sake of killing, but instead to instill fear in the survivors--they are, in effect, a race of terrorists.
** Fiends of this alignment are even worse. Demons are the physical manifestations of mortal sins and do their best to foster even greater depravities and evils in order to swell their own ranks. Demodands are an entire race of living weapons made by titans to destroy all the gods have made. The worse of the lot are the qlippoth, the inhabitants of the Abyss before the demons and possibly the oldest creatures in all of existence who have decided that total omnicide is the only way for them to reclaim their home.
* ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer}}'' and ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40000'' provide some of the most brutally straightforward, {{Obviously|Evil}}, [[CardCarryingVillain Card Carryingly]], [[AxCrazy Ax Crazily]], and otherwise gleefully and horrendously evil examples of the alignment in all of fiction.
** The Orks of [=WH40K=] are a pure version of this trope. They live for slaughtering their enemies in a giant Waaaagh!
** Chaos. The name says it all.
*** Tzeentch appears to be the most orderly (relatively speaking) of the Chaos Gods. Except that all of his plans are designed to be mutually contradictory and he makes sure that, ultimately, he can ''never'' achieve victory, due to the mutually inclusive goals that he would cease to exist if he ever won and his absolute addiction to scheming. He's probably more Chaotic Evil than any of them... with the possible exception of Khorne, who [[BloodKnight cares not from where the blood flows, only that it does,]] and whose followers wage ceaseless, pitiless war for its own sake throughout the cosmos. He has no churches or temples in his honour -- the only place to honour and worship him is on the battlefield, and the battlefield must have no limits or end.
*** Chaos Space Marine Legions vary from LawfulEvil to Chaotic Evil. Several of the more disciplined ones are almost {{Visionary Villain}}s wanting to carry out the legacy of Horus, uniting humanity under Chaos. Some of the others... not so much. You need only look at the eloquent and sophisticated philosophy expounded by Kharn The Betrayer, mentioned just above. [[MemeticMutation Although he's a pretty fun guy regardless.]] Unsurprisingly, the World Eaters are the purest examples of this alignment amongst the Chaos Space Marine chapters, which is the legion Khârn is part of.
** The Dark Eldar have partially moved away from this direction in fifth edition. They still have elements of this, but it is mostly restricted to the lower castes and criminals of their society. Indeed, in the retool the Kabals tend to fulfill the LawfulEvil side of the spectrum more, enforcing strict but cruel laws upon their people, as befitting a race of absolute evil. As to this, there is a huge rivalry between the kabals and the lower castes of society, but they do tend to (begrudgingly) work together to commit raids, with many of the criminals and gangs working as [[PsychoForHire cruel mercenaries]] for the Kabals alongside their actual soldiers.
** The Skaven of ''Warhammer Fantasy'' are giant anthropomorphic ratmen of Chaos whose only ''raison d'etre'' is wanton destruction.
** The Beastmen, also from Warhammer Fantasy, a race of savage, anarchistic goatmen and minotaurs created by the chaos gods with a vicious hatred for humans and anything symbolizing organized civilisation.
* In ''TabletopGame/MagicTheGathering'', many pairings of Red, which is the color of chaos, and Black, which is the color of ambition and selfishness, give us this trope. Every demon costs black, red, or both. That said, [[DarkIsNotEvil not all Red and Black characters are]] Chaotic Evil, and there are other examples in the color pie.
** Innistrad vampires (associated with both red and black mana) avert this alignment for the most part, with Stromkirk vampires embracing a NobleDemon artistic approach (both black and red traits) in contrast to some of the other bloodlines that are a lot more bloodcrazed. The Planeshift guide indeed gives their default alignment as NeutralEvil
** Innistrad werewolves, which are Green and Red, are blood crazed monsters with a malice for humanity. The Planeshift guide does indeed outright state they are generally Chaotic Evil.
** The Cult of Rakdos (the Black/Red followers of the Black/Red demon Rakdos) are evil enough to torture their slaves for fun and chaotic enough to torture themselves at the same time, also for fun.
** The Nobilis of War is a rare example of a [[LightIsNotGood White]] aligned Chaotic Evil character, [[https://loreleywrites.tumblr.com/post/163344175414/okay-heres-a-tough-one-whats-the-alignment-of and quite so at that]].
** The planeswalker Garruk Wildspeaker, initially ChaoticGood, slips into a pure Type 3 Chaotic Evil after being cursed by the Chain Veil. He considers Planeswalkers his prey, especially Liliana Vess, the one who cursed him.
** [[http://magiccards.info/query?q=kataki&v=card&s=cname Kataki]] [[http://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http%3A%2F%2Fweb.archive.org%2Fweb%2F20080312033901%2Fhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.wizards.com%2Fdefault.asp%3Fx%3Dmagic%2Fsok%2Fkataki&t=Zjk5ZDZiMGExMDJjNGI3NGI1YjMwZmEzMTNlMjJjZjE2MGVjMWZmMSwxY2x5ZVNwYQ%3D%3D&b=t%3A2DfkhuDhXo6i59HWg2QN9A&p=http%3A%2F%2Fimakethecard.tumblr.com%2Fpost%2F158383861873%2Fkamigawa-short-stories&m=1 is a rare]] ''[[LightIsNotGood White]]'' aligned example.
** Nahiri is yet another Red-White example, having been driven to a rampage after Sorin's imprisonment of her for thousands of years and seeing her home plane of Zendikar being ravaged by Eldrazi.
* Every willing member of the Rapine Storm in ''TabletopGame/CthulhuTech''. As has been said before, the Lovecraftian horrors in that force are nowhere near as bad as the actual humans, and they seem to have no goals besides killing, maiming, raping and burning their way across the world.
* The Wyrm in the original ''TabletopGame/WerewolfTheApocalypse''. Its goal, depending on one's interpretation, is either to destroy the entire universe or trap it forever in an unending state of suffering. Subverted in that it is only trying to break free from imprisonment by the insane Weaver, and the horrors that serve it fit more into the mold due to some of the stuff they do ForTheEvulz. In essence, the Wyrm is TrueNeutral; its purpose is to act as the balancing deity between the order of the Weaver and chaos of the Wyld by bringing a blessed ending to their creations.
* The Sabbat is the pinnacle of Chaotic Evil in ''TabletopGame/VampireTheMasquerade'', killing and breaking things for shits and giggles. The only thing that enforces a hierarchy and prevents members from tearing each other apart is the Vaulderie, a rite in which pack members drink each other's blood, which establishes a bond akin to the blood bond. Exceptions exist within the sect, however, particularily amongst those in the sect who choose to follow the Path of Honorable Accord, who are LawfulEvil instead. Interestingly, in a sect that is particularly devoted to chaos and mayhem, this path aactually happens to be one of the most popular paths to follow.
* The Ebon Dragon of ''TabletopGame/{{Exalted}}'' (when he's not being NeutralEvil). Exalted uses a Virtue system to depict the internal integrity and morality of characters. Compassion denotes the character's ability to feel for others and empathy, Conviction for determination to ideals and visions, Temperance for self-control and discipline, and Valor for courage and bravery. The Ebon Dragon, a titan who created the world, has the lowest rating possible for a sentient being in all Virtues. He does not care for anything, possesses no ideals, refuses to control himself and can not stand up against danger. His only motivation is to cause suffering. This miserable thing has ''cosmic'' powers.
** His similarly supra-divine sister, Adorjan, is also Chaotic Evil, but of a completely different variety-she's bloody insane and acts like it, but she'll happily explain that the reason she kills people is to free them of all attachments, which is why she kills what she loves and spares what she hates.
* In ''TabletopGame/{{Paranoia}}'', some of the secret societies (most notably PURGE and the Death Leopards) are based on wanton destruction either for its own sake and/or out of rage at the setting's overly restrictive dystopian society.

* [[JustForFun/TheZerothLawOfTropeExamples Shakespeare did it]]
%%** Aaron the Moor from ''Theatre/TitusAndronicus''.
** Don John in ''Theatre/MuchAdoAboutNothing'' plots to destroy the love of Hero and Claudio for no reason at all. Don John is also StupidEvil and / or ChaoticStupid as he clearly hasn't thought any of his plans out and he seems to get caught out more than once. Without his HypercompetentSidekick Boraccio providing the brains behind his schemes he'd get nowhere.
** Iago from ''Theatre/{{Othello}}'' is similar to Don John. He claims initially to have a motive for hating Othello and Desdemona, but it changes each time he brings it up and he eventually admits that he's just acting ForTheEvulz.
* Stanley from ''Theatre/AStreetcarNamedDesire'' turns out to be clearly evil after he [[spoiler:rapes Blanche and later has her sent off to a mental institution]]. His great emphasis on personal freedom and his random, brutal behavior lands him into Chaotic Evil territory.
* Mr Punch from ''Theatre/PunchAndJudy'' is a pretty clearcut example of this alignment. In a typical show, he kills his own baby by throwing it out of a window, beats his wife to death with a stick, kills several other characters whom he encounters and finally outwits the devil himself to get away completely scot free.
* This is the defining character trait of Marlowe's ''Theatre/DoctorFaustus'', in stark contrast to LawfulEvil Mephistopheles. He really, ''really'' hates having to put up with limitations of any kind, and his whole reason for devoting his life to {{Satan}}-knowing full well this would result in his death and probably getting sent to Hell for eternity-is because he can't bear to have the inherent limitations of ''being human''.
* Arturo Ui and his gang in ''Theatre/TheResistibleRiseOfArturoUi'', though Roma shows some LawfulEvil traits. Ui seems to regard breaking the law as an end unto itself rather than a way of achieving goals. He does seek power and fame, but goes out of his way to do so through robbery, murder, etc. rather than through legitimate means. Borders on StupidEvil, but his methods are fairly effective nonetheless.
* Erik, the [[AntagonistTitle titular]] ''[[Theatre/ThePhantomOfTheOpera Phantom Of The Opera]]''. Rejected by society for his deformities, Erik is unable to acquire power through legitimate means. Instead, he seeks control of the Paris Opera House through [[TheDreaded intimidation and extortion]], bullying the proper owners of the establishment into having his way. [[HeWhoMustNotBeSeen He remains out of sight]] from the production crew, only making his presence known through the havoc he causes when the managers defy his orders. Even his relationship with Christine could be described as this, having taken advantage of her father's death in order to come into her life as an "Angel of Music", and tutoring her from his hidden lair [[TheSvengali with the intent of marrying her]].

* Claggart in ''Literature/BillyBudd.'' He's described as being "naturally depraved" and he wants to destroy the hero so badly (without a reason) that he provokes the boy into killing him, just to be sure he'll be hanged.
* Smaug in ''Literature/TheHobbit''. He is the inspiration to the Chaotic Evil Red Dragons, and is greedy, avaricious and wild, not being involved in any social structure.
* ''Literature/{{Discworld}}'':
** Mr. Jonathan Teatime (pronounced Teh-ah-tim-ah) in the novel ''Literature/{{Hogfather}}''. Other Guild Assassins take professional pride in inhuming the target with no collateral damage to bystanders, whenever possible, but to Teatime, killing is art for art's sake.
** Pratchett also has the elves, who are both vicious and incredibly chaotic. They want to invade the world so that they can have fun by hurting people.
** Lacrimosa de Magpyr in ''Literature/CarpeJugulum'' is the [[ImmortalImmaturity permanently teenaged]] daughter of the Count de Magpyr. Whereas the Count is LawfulEvil and wants to rationalise vampirism, she has no patience for all that and just wants to kill everyone who gets in her way and do violence for fun.
%%** Carcer of ''Literature/{{Night Watch|Discworld}}'' is possibly the most "Chaotic" villain in the entire series.
%%* Alex, of ''Literature/AClockworkOrange''. ''Real'' horrorshow, my droogs.
* From the works of ''Creator/StephenKing'':

** Randall Flagg from ''Literature/TheStand''. Although Flagg's Las Vegas might be Lawful Evil (due to the day to day operations being run by Lloyd Henry), Flagg himself is a creature of whim, delights in causing trouble where none exists, and is ultimately self-destructive.
** ''Literature/{{Carrie}}'': Carrie White is an [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds incredibly tragic example.]] She starts out as more-or-less NeutralGood, but eventually snaps and decides to [[WhereIWasBornAndRazed destroy Chamberlain]] after a lifetime of bullying, abuse, and torture. Most of the adaptations [[AdaptationalHeroism make her]] ChaoticNeutral instead, as it's strongly implied (or stated outright) that she's [[NonMaliciousMonster barely conscious of what's happening during her rampage,]] while in the book she knows full well what she's doing.
* Patrick Bateman of ''Literature/AmericanPsycho'' offers an interesting case of a blood-crazed Chaotic Evil individual essentially camouflaging himself in a Lawful or even Neutral Evil environment (that is to say, Wall Street), where his dead-eyed narcissism and rampant, violent misogyny are simply par for the course.
* Fenrir Greyback in ''Literature/HarryPotter'', whose sole objective in life is to turn as many children as possible into werewolves... Or kill them, whichever strikes his fancy.
** Bellatrix Lestrange is this compared to the rest of the Death Eaters. She's wicked and crazy, who enjoys her work of torturing and murdering [[AxCrazy a little too much.]] Voldemort himself admires her bloodlust, holding her chaotic nature in high regard.
* The InUniverse alignment of ''Literature/FateZero'''s Caster (Gilles de Rais, aka Bluebeard). Just look at how he does things in the Holy Grail War. His Master, [[SerialKiller Ryuunosuke Uryuu]], isn't much better.
* Morgoth from ''Literature/TheSilmarillion'': according to WordOfGod, his ultimate goal is simply to smash creation down into dust, into the primal darkness from which it came. By contrast, his lieutenant (and occasional [[TheDragon Dragon]]) Sauron is LawfulEvil
%%** Ungoliant of the same tome, representing the EldritchAbomination version of this trope. Also Carcaroth, Glaurung and Ulfast.
* Acheron Hades of the ''Literature/ThursdayNext'' series is this. Like the Joker, he's the type who, depending on his whim of the moment, can vary between laughable, cartoonish villainy and brutal evil. For instance, although his plot to destroy great works of literature is more of the former, he's also depicted slaughtering an entire room of police officers for the fun of it.
%%* The {{Designated Hero}}es of ''Literature/TheTurnerDiaries''; bonus points since they seem to consider themselves as ChaoticGood or {{Well Intentioned Extremist}}s at worst. They aren't.
* The four protagonists, as well as lots of briefly mentioned characters in the Creator/MarquisDeSade's ''Literature/The120DaysOfSodom'', and probably many characters from his other works, who commit acts of unspeakable cruelty, sexual and otherwise, against others for the sake of their own enjoyment. There's a reason Sade was the inspiration for the term "sadism."
* Rupert of Hentzau of ''Literature/ThePrisonerOfZenda'' is a very calm and calculating version of it. Rupert is the swashbuckling hero (a classic example of ChaoticGood) turned evil, and so he goes about things like treachery, casual cruelty, and attempted rape with great charm and ''joie de vivre''.
* ''Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire'':
** Vargo Hoat and The Brave Companions, better known as the Bloody Mummers, the most vile, depraved, sickening mercenary troop in all the known lands.
** Gregor Clegane is about as Chaotic Evil as they come. Whether it's killing children, or massacring civilians during wartime, or his decision to have an innkeeper's daughter gang-raped by his men just because, you never know what Gregor's going to do, just that it will be as abhorrent as possible. His band of thugs is worse than the Mummers -- while Vargo's band are all sorts of monsters and weirdos gathered from faraway lands, Gregor's bunch are just ordinary soldiers and thugs. They brutally defeat and torture Vargo's band in the later books.
** Westeros will occasionally offer up a [[TheCaligula Caligula]] King to make the people as miserable as possible and give the characters an excuse to start a civil war. Mad King Aerys and Joffrey Baratheon are the two notable examples, both sadistic AxCrazy psychopaths who infuriated their nobles into rebellion by having prominent members of major Houses executed for no good reason.
** [[BastardBastard Ramsay Bolton]], son of [[LawfulEvil Roose Bolton]], is quite possibly the most evil character in the whole series, being the sort of man who flays people alive for fun, and enjoys the finer things in life, such as rape, murder, torture, and a whole mess of other atrocities, and becomes so repellently evil that his own father (no stranger to atrocious behavior, himself) expresses disgust at his methods. (Though this is more due to the negative publicity Ramsay brings on the whole House.)
** We haven't seen much of The Others thusfar in the story, but their reputation is a race of AlwaysChaoticEvil {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s who want to [[DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans plunge all the world into eternal winter and darkness]] at the behest of their unseen master and creator -- if there is one. So they ''[[SarcasmMode might]]'' just fit this trope -- in the classic "so fatally [[BlueAndOrangeMorality Blue-and-Orange]], does splitting hairs matter?" sense.
* Although he isn't this alignment in most adaptations of the work, the original ''Literature/{{Fantomas}}'' was a poster-boy for the alignment. Fantômas had an inspiration from GentlemanThief characters like Literature/ArseneLupin, but his only interest was in spreading terror and his [[MonumentalTheft wacky schemes]] involved killing people in sadistic ways (i.e. spreading a plague).
* Fats Wall from ''Literature/TheCasualVacancy'' is a textbook psychopath and one of the more realistic portrayals of this alignment.
%%** Obbo also goes here.
* Lord Foul, the BigBad of ''Literature/TheChroniclesOfThomasCovenant''. His ultimate goal is to break out of his [[SealedEvilInACan cosmic prison]] and be free, but that can just happens to be a planet. It is heavily implied that even if he had no chance of breaking out, he would still kill and/or torture everyone on the planet just for the hell of it.
* Edward Hyde, from ''Literature/TheStrangeCaseOfDrJekyllAndMrHyde'' is not only Henry Jekyll's embodied evil side, but more specifically an expression of his lower, uncontrolled desires.
* Duchess Alicia from ''Literature/TheWatersRising'' kills on a whim, conceives unreasoning hatred for a nation, and puts entire villages through humiliating games ForTheLulz. She also [[ParentalIncest lusts after her father]], [[BrotherSisterIncest seduces her brother]] and kills her mother.
* Many of the {{Big Bad}}s from ''Literature/{{Redwall}}'' are such. For instance, Ferahgo the Assassin divides his time between warring against Salamandastron, berating his son Klitch for his failed schemes, scaring the living crap out of his troops, employing a MasterPoisoner to starve every beast on the mountain, and leaving freshly orphaned (by him) infants to die from exposure. All with a [[StepfordSmiler charming smile.]]
* Lamprey from ''[[Literature/ColSecTrilogy Exiles of ColSec]]'' is a sadistic, unpredictable thug who was deemed [[EvenEvilHasStandards too unstable to be a government hitman]].
* ''Literature/TheDresdenFiles'': The entire Red Court of Vampires are petty, backstabbing bloodsuckers to the point where their own treachery sabotages their war effort. They are only loosely held together by threat of punishment and threats from either other supernatural powers or the highers-up in their own society.
** Polonius Lartessa of the Knights of the Blackened Denarius is outright described as this InUniverse in contrast to her [[LawfulEvil Lawful]][=/=]NeutralEvil husband Nicodemus Archeleone. While Nicodemus likes to play TheLongGame, Tessa focuses instead on actively spreading suffering and misery in the present, capitalizing on moments of mass panic and chaos to bring about the most damage.
** Winter Lady Maeve of the Sidhe ignores her duties and is a spiteful, unpredictable brat whose cruelty reaches the point of unnecessary evil.
* ''Literature/CodexAlera'' has Steadholder Kord from the first book, ''Furies of Calderon''. Kord is a [[TheHedonist hedonistic]] sociopath who runs his titular steadholt as a WretchedHive. It's frequently shown throughout the story that he has absolutely no care for what happens next or how self-destructive his own actions are - All he cares about is ensuring his own short-term success and enacting revenge on the main protagonists (Tavi and Isana) [[EvilIsPetty for mildly insulting him]].
* ''Literature/TheElricSaga'' has the Lords of Chaos, monstrous and malevolent entities that delight in suffering and are opposed to the forces of Law.
** Stormbringer, the iconic sentient sword of demonic origin, is a treacherous and manipulative being, chaotic evil to the core, that hungers for blood and souls and wishes to break the Cosmic Balance. As a consequence of its influence, it caused every person who wield it to become self-destructive mass murderers and it considers the souls of its wielder's loved ones to be a delicacy.
* {{Satan}} is portrayed this way in ''Literature/ParadiseLost''. "Better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven". He eventually admits that he was happier as a servant of God than as the ruler of demons, but still refuses to even attempt to redeem himself because he refuses to submit to the will of another entity. Despite being essentially a monarch, he's not really LawfulEvil as he is never shown making demons follow any rules or ordering them to do anything. Satan's main concern is not having to obey anybody; whether anyone else obeys him doesn't really matter.
* Most depictions of Literature/DonJuan (aka Theatre/DonGiovanni) are this alignment. He's a pure hedonist who seduces, uses and occasionally murders people, with no thought beyond his own immediate satisfaction.

[[folder:Comic Books]]
* Evil Ernie, created by writer Brian Pulido and artist Steven Hughes, who spreads death and destruction so he can get Lady Death's love and and because he hates order, peace and heroes.
* ComicBook/TheJoker. [[DependingOnTheWriter Depends on the writer]], but The Joker is almost quintessentially Chaotic Evil, insane and indiscriminately destructive, enough as to why he's pictured in this trope's page. He puts the emphasis on Chaotic -- he may not be as likely to jump off a bridge as cross it, but he's almost as likely to blow it up. The only indication we get that he has any restraint at all is in the [[AlternateContinuity storyline]] where he has terminal cancer, and we find out what he's like when he has even less to lose. Sometimes the Joker is too chaotic to be evil. One story has him driving a truck through the wall of a television stage to hijack a quiz show; as soon as a woman gets a question wrong, he grabs her and pulls her towards his button flower, and she screams for mercy -- but instead of acid, he sprays her with ginger ale. He goes on like this for the rest of the strip, punishing incorrect answers with normal, run of the mill pranks, and generally acting like [[HarmlessVillain his Silver Age counterpart]]. All the while, the station manager refuses to cut the transmission, as a live Joker rampage would boost their ratings sky high; he gets increasingly frustrated waiting for the Joker to stop playing around and get to the carnage, but he doesn't. Eventually Batman arrives to stop him and Joker surrenders peacefully, not having harmed a single person for the entire strip, but before he leaves, he reveals he was filming the station's control room the entire time, and starts playing the footage; then he looks at the camera and says "So, who's the real sicko, America? Me, for carrying out this little prank? The producers and executives at the network, who let it all happen -- or is it you people, who mindlessly watched it all on your television sets?". The last panel is the producer holding his head in his hands while the Joker laughs insanely. Most fans agree that when the Joker does the HarmlessVillain routine, it's always because, in that particular situation, it's much more [[ManipulativeBastard psychologically and emotionally scarring]]. Letting everyone know that you enjoy a harmless prank and coldblooded murder in equal measure [[TheDreaded does wonders for your sinister reputation]]. He would probably be a type 2 (more evil than chaotic) as [[{{Sadist}} he likes hurting and killing people so much]].
* ''ComicBook/{{Daredevil}}'': PsychoForHire Bullseye loves killing, pure and simple, both for the challenge of a difficult kill and the sheer thrill of committing them. He gets paid a fortune, as he is one of the world's premier {{Professional Killer}}s, but he barely spends any of it, and his oft-repeated comment is that he has more money than even resident evil billionaire ComicBook/NormanOsborn. He would be NeutralEvil if not for the sheer rate that he killed people -- he can barely go a StoryArc without leaving a whole pile of corpses, regardless of whether he was paid to kill them or not, and he generally kills on whims with little to no regard about the bodies being found or him being caught (not that the average cop would survive trying to catch him anyway).
* Similarly, there's ComicBook/{{Sabretooth}}. Like Bullseye, he absolutely loves killing and thinks of himself as a hunter stalking a kill. Unlike Bullseye, however, he's ''incredibly'' self-centered and views everyone who isn't a potential victim as someone to use to further his own goals, and he's exceptionally good at manipulating people into doing exactly what he wants them to do without them even knowing it. Absolutely no one ever trusts him with anything, and that's because he has a [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder very long list of people whom he has either murdered or completely screwed over]] once [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness they've served their purpose]]. What separates him from your standard [[StupidEvil aimless moron]] is that he's very, very deliberate about it and knows exactly how to get away with what he does; like Bullseye, he WOULD be NeutralEvil if it wasn't for the incredible body count that he has to his name. He's a Type 4 through and through: he lives for nothing but violence, bloodshed, and (if it involves Wolverine) psychological torture, but he's terrifyingly cunning and crafty and will always find a way to rope large amounts of people into his latest scheme without their even knowing it.
* ''Franchise/SpiderMan'':
** Spidey's foe ComicBook/{{Carnage}}, a sadistic serial killer who sees violence, bloodshed, and mayhem as the ultimate freedom.
** When fully corrupted, the [[Characters/VenomTheSymbiote Venom symbiote]] is little better than its progeny, seeing itself as an agent of chaos and seeking only to vent its rage and satiate its ravenous appetite. Eddie Brock in his first voyage as Venom also befits this alignment: causing as much havoc as he needs to and even severely injuring and killing those who stand in his way, just to completely dismantle Spider-Man - his at-the-time arch-nemesis - and his life as both civilian and hero.
** The Green Goblin could serve as an interesting example. ComicBook/NormanOsborn himself is NeutralEvil, working within and without the system as the situation demands in a ruthless quest for money and power, as well as petty vengeance on Spidey. But Osborn is also mentally unstable and genuinely insane, and sometimes (and originally) his Goblin identity was a case of SplitPersonality. His Goblin side also originally wanted the same things -- maybe even for Osborn -- but is clearly much more homicidal and reckless. In recent issues Osborn has given up his Goblin identity to be a straighter VillainWithGoodPublicity under the name of the Iron Patriot (and towards LawfulEvil), but he is unable to properly control his homicidal tendencies to the point where it seriously threatens his plans, which is being exploited by his evil rivals.
* ComicBook/DRAndQuinch are this to the core, albeit mostly for laughs (theirs and ours). They prank the Phi Delta frat house by nuking it, and indirectly engineer the [[EarthShatteringKaboom destruction of Earth]] to get back at their dean for suspending them.
%%* ComicBook/{{Cattivik}}, even with his ButtMonkey and HarmlessVillain status.
* The ComicBook/RedSkull, ComicBook/CaptainAmerica's arch-nemesis, is another example of intelligent Chaotic Evil. While he originally started as LawfulEvil, he eventually moved here. Not content to seize control of a country from within, he and his close friends in HYDRA actively seek to cause mayhem and destruction, undermining the governments of the world in both subtle and openly vicious ways. He's so nasty that even most of the other {{Big Bad}}s of the Marvel Universe [[EvenEvilhasStandards dislike him]].
* The 616 universe version of ComicBook/{{Ultron}} is of the Intelligent Monster variety. This KillerRobot started out as a methodical criminal mastermind and MasterOfDisguise willing to cooperate with human supervillains in order to defeat the Avengers, but a few reincarnations later, he went full RoboticPsychopath and MisanthropeSupreme, reflecting the darker aspects of his creator Henry Pym without any [[AxCrazy moral and rational restrictions]] and most of his plans boil down to petty vengeance against Pym and the Avengers while causing plenty of death and destruction in the process, with little care for his original goal of becoming the ruler of a robotic utopia, sometimes on a galactic scale as seen in ''Annihilation:Conquest'',.
* Spiral from the ''X-Men'' universe. She's practically the Joker of the Marvel Universe in that she's unpredictable, and the impression is clearly given that without Mojo there to hold her leash, we'd ''all'' be in serious trouble.
* ComicBook/{{Thanos}} the Mad Titan is also high-functioning Chaotic Evil -- methodical, calculating, but ultimately usually driven by whatever he feels like doing at a given time, or a nigh-omnicidal ''romantic'' obsession with Death, and usually a StrawNihilist who doesn't believe any moral or ethical authority, answers to nobody but himself, and is TheUnfettered in ''everything'' he pursues.
* Prometheus, Creator/GrantMorrison's penultimate 'Anti-Batman', definitely fits into this trope. He's got Batman's eye for discerning weakness but none of his restraint -- in his first appearance, he very nearly murdered the entire ComicBook/JusticeLeagueOfAmerica. In a later comic storyline, [[spoiler:he caused the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people just to prove he could best the heroes of the world (because said heroes had gotten rather serious after ComicBook/FinalCrisis and Batman's apparent death). He did all this while strapped to a chair in League headquarters, calmly mocking the League as their every attempt to out-think him failed, until they finally were forced to release him to get the codes to shut down his machines (a destroyed city, maimed hero, lost loved one and ''at least'' a hundred thousand dead later).]] Anti-Batman indeed. Unfortunately for Prometheus, this made things beyond [[ItsPersonal personal]] for ComicBook/GreenArrow, who proceeded to [[spoiler:PayEvilUntoEvil]].
* Willy Pete from ''ComicBook/{{Empowered}}'' is a sociopathic [[PyroManiac fire-elemental]] with a more-or-less human mind that lives to indulge human appetites such as food and sex in the least socially acceptable manner possible.
* Mr. Dark and Max, The Pied Piper, from ''ComicBook/{{Fables}}''. Mr. Dark is the embodiment of fear of the unknown, and enjoys spreading death and misery to this end. Max is a psychopath who thinks the world owes him whatever he wants, and flies into murderous rages when his demands aren't instantly met. He also has a penchant for luring entire cities of children to their deaths.
** Bloody Mary makes it clear that the only reason she works for the crooked man is because it gives her more opportunities to kill and spread suffering. She is a sadistic sociopath who admits to becoming aroused by her own cruelty.
%%* Amatsu-Mikaboshi, the Chaos King of the Franchise/MarvelUniverse.
* President Gary 'The Smiler' Callahan from ''ComicBook/{{Transmetropolitan}}''. The entire reason he became president is so that he could fuck everyone over. He says so himself!
%%* [[ComicBook/{{Spawn}} Violator]].
* ''ComicBook/SinCity'': The Yellow Bastard says it himself: "I get to do whatever I want!" It definitely doesn't help things that he's protected from any punishment he might otherwise receive for his horrible acts by his corrupt U.S. Senator father.
* Lobo fits this perfectly; all the stuff he does is mostly because he felt like doing it. He wiped out his own race as a school project, for which he gave himself an A.
* ''ComicBook/SonicTheComic'': Although he went through a period of amnesia, Fleetway's version of Super Sonic is otherwise a hardcore Type 4. While he starts out by wiping out whatever evil he's up against, he is ready to murder his friends and spin-dash the entire planet if he doesn't burn himself out in time. In fact the only reason he kills is for something to ''do,'' since being completely invincible in every way is boring, and Super Sonic gets bored faster than a sack of live weasels. It doubles as Fleetway's explanation as to why Sonic doesn't go Super more often.
* ''ComicBook/NemesisTheWarlock'': Nemesis himself fits here by his own admission. Whereas Torquemada is the incarnation of LawfulEvil as the psychopathic god-dictator of the [[HumansAreTheRealMonsters hostile human empire of Termight]], Nemesis himself is a bloodthirsty demonic alien who loves his arch-enemy for posing an amusing threat. At first he seems like ChaoticGood until he reveals his true motivations, lambasting the person who thought that Torquemada being evil must have meant that Nemesis is good. As he explains, the forces of Khaos and Order can be either.
* [[spoiler: Ghost Kid Loki]] from ''ComicBook/YoungAvengers'' uses this exact phrase to describe the original Loki: "His alignment is totally Chaotic Evil!"
%%* In ''ComicBook/AmericanVampire'', Skinner Sweet (both in his pre-vampire, human outlaw days and afterward) and [[spoiler: Hattie Hargrove]].

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
%%* ''Film/BattleRoyale'': The film version of Kazuo Kiriyama qualifies.
* ''Film/TheMatrix'': Smith, after [[NotQuiteDead being brought back in]] ''Film/TheMatrixReloaded'', becomes this. [[FantasticRacism He has nothing but contempt and hatred for humans]], [[StrawNihilist believes everything in reality to be futile and pointless]], [[OmnicidalManiac wishes to destroy everyone and everything in the world, including himself]], [[AxCrazy and viciously beats Neo within an inch of his life whenever the opportunity presents itself]].
* DepravedBisexual Catherine Tramell from ''Film/BasicInstinct'': although she may appear to be NeutralEvil, the film never actually makes clear ''why'' she does what she does, which may just be bad writing.
* ''Franchise/StarWars'':
** Darth Maul of ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' seems to exist as a vessel of pure fury, hate, and bloodlust... and occasional sadistic glee when he hurts or kills someone. Though he veers more towards NeutralEvil in ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels''.
** Most Sith are this way. Their affinity for stabbing each other in the back over the smallest of slights, or indeed, just because they can, makes you wonder why anyone expects to live long enough to reach tyrant level when they join them. That's the purpose of the Rule of Two: to limit the destruction and ensure the survival of the Sith as a philosophy.
** The original and default position of The Sith is NeutralEvil -- they believe that Force sensitives should use the DarkSide and have a right to lord over other people, and [[DespotismJustifiesTheMeans selfishly pursue power]]. Individual Sith will have their own alignments depending on their goals and values -- Vader and Tyranus both wanted to impose order on a corrupt and chaotic galaxy (LawfulEvil), and Palpatine mostly just wanted power (NeutralEvil). The best examples of Chaotic Evil would be [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic Malak]], who was DrunkOnTheDarkSide; [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords Sion, who mostly just wants to kill Jedi; and Nihilus]], who was an OmnicidalManiac EldritchAbomination.
** General Grievous might have been a [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Proud Warrior once]], but now he is just a bloodthirsty slaughterer, who wants to commit genocide against the Jedi and is ready to kill and betray everyone who is in his way. And he really takes A LOT of joy in doing so.
** Kylo Ren is a Sith-in-training and swore himself towards the Dark Side, yet struggles to deal with both his inner turmoil. And what's left of his nicer self, many would agree that he is definitely not as professional as Darth Vader. In fact it's precisely his childish outbursts and desperate nature that make him lose a lot of credit with older fans (and possibly his troopers too).
* The Joker from ''Film/TheDarkKnight'' is the poster boy for this alignment. The Joker was written in a way that demonstrates what lengths you have to go to to get a seriously Chaotic Evil character; the several different writers of the movie all had their own ideas of the Joker's motivation, character and backstory, but they decided ''not'' to discuss them with each other, and instead produced a script where different parts of the script are written with different character interpretations in mind so that the Joker's actions seem genuinely disordered and unpredictable. He also exhibits an idealistic devotion to chaos, which he spends the movie "promoting" to the world.
* ''Film/GetOut2017'':
** Rose derives sadistic kicks by forming false relationships with her victims before handing them over to be experimented on.
** Jeremy is more outwardly violent and is the muscle in the operation.
* Even though he sees himself as being ChaoticGood, most of John Kramer's victims from ''Franchise/{{Saw}}'' films would beg to differ.
* Arthur Burns from ''Film/TheProposition''. Although he does love his friends, he is a monstrous man and an outlaw that disregards the rules of civilization.
%%* Sigfried from the ''Film/GetSmart'' movie is an unusually calm Chaotic Evil character, which is not too surprising, given that he is the leader of [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin KAOS]].
* ''Film/SweeneyToddTheDemonBarberOfFleetStreet'' has a VillainProtagonist who is a Chaotic Evil SerialKiller, who manages to retain our sympathy mainly due to his revenge motivation and being pitted against the LawfulEvil Judge Turpin. Mrs. Lovett completes the trifecta as NeutralEvil, turning Sweeney's murders into a vehicle for profit for her restaurant in [[ImAHumanitarian quite the ghoulish fashion]].
%%* The ''Film/{{Gremlins}}'', bordering on both ChaoticStupid and StupidEvil.
* ''Film/AClockworkOrange'': Alex. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking Rape, murder, theft, a little classical music...]]
* In his cinematic debut, one minute he's an AffablyEvil WickedCultured MagnificentBastard VillainProtagonist, the next he's AxCrazy and the stuff of nightmares. It's difficult to imagine a different alignment to hang on Dr. Franchise/HannibalLecter.
%%** However, Buffalo Bill ([[Literature/TheSilenceOfTheLambs) and Francis Dolarhyde ([[Literature/Red Dragon) are most probably Chaotic Evil.
%%* ''Franchise/{{Halloween}}'': Michael Myers, for that matter all the great [[Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet slasher]] [[Franchise/FridayThe13th flick]] [[Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre villains]].
* ''Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre'': The family of Leatherface, who bully him around and manipulate him into killing people to satisfy their own sick and twisted goals. Leatherface himself is usually portrayed as somewhat sympathetic in contrast to his family, despite being the main killer of the movies.
%%* ''Film/ChildsPlay'' Chucky!. Glenda, [[JekyllAndHyde Glen]]'s evil twin sister, counts to.
* The normally LawfulEvil Pinhead ends up as this in ''Film/HellraiserIIIHellOnEarth'' due to a series of complicated circumstances that separate his human spirit and evil self into separate beings.
* ''Franchise/ANightmareOnElmStreet'': Freddy Krueger is a Type II example, as he depends on the dream demons for his powers to work. There is some attempt to give him a revenge motive in the earlier movies ([[RevengeByProxy killing the children of the parents who killed him]]), but eventually that flimsy excuse is done away with and he's revealed to just be a sick bastard who likes killing people.
* [[EnfantTerrible Henry Evans]] from ''Film/TheGoodSon''. Essentially what if [[Film/HomeAlone Kevin McAllister]] was an emotionless psycho who uses his craftiness against his family instead of burglars.
* ''Film/InTheCompanyOfMen'' offers an interesting test case in the limits of Chaotic Evil. The main character in that film is Chad, a typically sociopathic and misogynistic Wall Street banker who decides, ostensibly in anger over a bad break-up, to get revenge on womankind by targeting the most fragile, the most helpless and the most vulnerable woman he can find, leading her on, and then psychologically breaking her. So far, so Neutral Evil. However, Howie, the Omega Male he drags along with him on this crusade, has the misfortune to actually fall in love with the girl, and, wanting to call it off, visits Chad at his home, where he sees him happily ensconced with his girlfriend, who never left him in the first place. When asked why then did he embark on his escapade, he simply responds, "Because I could".
%%* The fictional version of Idi Amin in ''Film/TheLastKingOfScotland''.
* Clarence Boddicker from ''Film/RoboCop1987'' has committed every crime in the book, does not work well with his LawfulEvil superior [[spoiler:Dick Jones of the OCP]], and has fun with violence, making him textbook Chaotic Evil.
* Top Dollar, the BigBad from the film of ''Film/TheCrow'', gives a speech about evil and chaos that is practically a psalm about this alignment.
-->''Greed is for amateurs. Chaos, disorder, anarchy... '''now that's fun!'''''
* Lord John Whorfin from ''Film/TheAdventuresOfBuckarooBanzaiAcrossTheEighthDimension''. "He's a vicious psychopath, Tommy. Just as soon kill ya as go fishin'..."
* Tommy De Vito in ''Film/{{Goodfellas}}'' is an arrogant hothead and a sociopath who will just as soon shoot you or knife you to death as laugh with you. He is infamous for his HairTriggerTemper (in fact, that trope used to be called "The Pesci" because of Pesci's performance as Tommy in the movie), which [[spoiler:ultimately gets him killed when he makes the mistake of killing a made man]].
* Franchise/{{Godzilla}}, as portrayed in the original ''Film/{{Gojira}}'', ''Film/GodzillaMothraKingGhidorahGiantMonstersAllOutAttack'', and ''[[Film/{{ShinGodzilla}} Shin Godzilla]]''. While more sympathetic interpretations show him as ChaoticNeutral, in his original portrayal his only goal seems to be to get revenge on all mankind.
** Destoroyah, from ''Film/GodzillaVsDestoroyah'', being revived and mutated by the Oxygen Destroyer, revels in destruction and death, especially when it tortures the King of the Monsters.
** Most versions of King Ghidorah love to inflict pain and suffering, spreading murder and mayhem with no higher purpose at all. The Showa version kills planets for ''fun'', and most others are, at best, a PsychoForHire who loves his job. Notably, his "roar" is designed to resemble [[GigglingVillain high-pitched giggling]].
%%** Most evil kaiju qualify.
* Yuri from the ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000'' featured movie ''Film/{{Werewolf}}'' is hot-tempered, willing to assault anyone over the slightest provocation, and has only the vaguely defined goal of injecting people to see if he can turn them into werewolves and that will somehow give him fame and fortune, but it's clear that he has no plan to make that happen, and so is fascinated to watch his victims transform into werewolves for its own sake.
* Speaking of ''Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000'' villains, J.C. from ''Film/TheSidehackers'' can be considered a clear example of this alignment, being a FauxAffablyEvil PsychopathicManchild who reacts to dissapointment with murderous violence as the protagonist Rommel and his girlfriend found out the hard way.
* Likely unintentional but Griffin, the VillainProtagonist from ''Film/RedZoneCuba'' is a disturbingly realistic portrayal of this alignment, a violent thug combining an HairTriggerTemper with ChronicVillainy which leads him to assault his two companions at the drop of a hat and murder a restaurant owner and rape his blind daughter for unexplained reasons, despite Griffin's claims of wanting to go legit.
* Samara from ''Film/TheRing'' is an unstoppable force with powers she can't or won't control that allow her to kill people with her mind alone, which remain potent even after her death. She states outright that she wants to hurt people, she drove her own parents to murder and suicide, and she is willing to possess a young child in order to hijack his loving relationship with his mother. The only way to prevent her from killing you after you've watched her video is to sic her on someone else.
* The AxCrazy teenager J.D. of ''Film/{{Heathers}}'' is a surprisingly realistic example of Chaotic Evil, manipulating events so he can blow up his entire school out of a desire to tear down the social cliques.
* Vincent from ''Film/{{Collateral}}'' represents the element of chaos in Max's carefully ordered world. Though he seems quite [[FauxAffablyEvil affable]] and likeable, he is a cold-blooded and sociopathic hitman with more than a bit of StrawNihilist in him.
* Andre Baptiste Sr., an AxCrazy warlord and would-be [[TheCaligula Caligula]] who is NeutralEvil arms-dealing protagonist Yuri Orlov's number one customer in ''Film/LordOfWar''. His son Andre Jr. is also pure, distilled Chaotic Evil -- his favorite hobby is riding around in a convertible gunning down random people with a [[BlingBlingBang gold-plated AK-47]].
* AxCrazy PsychoForHire Gaear Grimsrud from the Coen brothers' ''Film/{{Fargo}}''. Unlike his NeutralEvil partner in crime, who only kills people when they get in his way, he'll do it just because he feels like it.
* Zé Pequeno (Lil' Zé), the vicious gangster who is the primary antagonist in ''Film/CityOfGod''. He's absolutely ruthless in running his gang, takes whatever he wants and kills whoever gets in his way when he does so. At one point, he goes into a seedy hotel/whorehouse and, after robbing it, slaughters everyone there [[ForTheEvulz just for the hell of it]]. When he does this, he's all of ''[[TeensAreMonsters twelve years old]]''.
* Simon Phoenix from ''Film/DemolitionMan'' is a very pure example of Chaotic Evil; he just wants to see the world burn for fun, to the point where he sees a nanny state future as a fun toy to break.
%%* VillainProtagonist (s) Cecil B. Demented and all of the Sprocket Holes from ''Film/CecilBDemented'' are this.
%%* A rare comedic example is ''Film/TheLostSkeletonOfCadavra''.
* ''Film/RockyIII'': Clubber Lang is most certainly Chaotic Evil being a thuggish and sadistic [[ArrogantKungFuGuy arrogant boxer guy]] who doesn't care for sport rules and public decency.
* ''Film/AguirreTheWrathOfGod'': Aguirre is a raving lunatic who endlessly dreams up betrayals, executions and incest. Doubles as StupidEvil, since he is too far gone to even notice his followers dying around him.
* Carl Denham, the greedy filmmaker in ''Film/KingKong1933'', is listed as Chaotic Evil in the official D&D supplement ''Complete Scoundrel''.
* Raoul Silva of ''{{Film/Skyfall}}'' fluctuates between being a giggling goofball and a dangerous murderer with little provocation. Sometimes he's both. His messed up psyche has some justification, given that he [[spoiler:was betrayed by M and survived a suicide by cyanide tablet]].
* Agent Kruger from ''Film/{{Elysium}}'' is a ''[[AxCrazy really]]'' unhinged PsychoForHire who works for the LawfulEvil government that rules the titular station in the film. His [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/7e5c238d15c4813778b619743745bf60/tumblr_mtehl4kHnJ1qbaqpro1_1280.jpg personal bio]] includes multiple mentions of human rights violations, rape, torture and more. If given any kind of weapon, he will gladly use it to blow up or cut up some poor fool, as evidenced many times through out the story. [[spoiler:When he finds out about the codes that could allow any to control the station, he gladly jumps on the opportunity to do so to turn Elysium into his personal playground.]]
* The LaughablyEvil Will Wharton, aka. Wild Bill from ''{{Literature/TheGreenMile}}'' antagonises and picks fights with practically everyone around him for the sheer joy of it and fears absolutely nothing except the padded room, although he can be calculating too, like ObfuscatingStupidity that allows him to get the drop on the guards and almost kill Dean Stanton, and spit a whole square of saliva'd-up moon pie into Brutus Howell's face. [[spoiler:It makes him all the more despicable when it's revealed that he was the real rapist and murderer of the two girls that John Coffey was accused of killing, manipulating them to be silent as he did the deed and seemed to revel and toy with John Coffey with the false accusation]].
* Joe from ''{{Film/Nymphomaniac}}'' grows more and more depraved over the course of Part 2 and eventually becomes an extortionist specializing in physical and psychological torture.
* Loki becomes a Type 1 in ''Film/{{Thor}}'', having started out more NeutralGood good, and continues to be (the WellIntentionedExtremist and[=/=]or Type 4 version of) this in ''Film/{{The Avengers|2012}}''. However, in ''Film/ThorTheDarkWorld'', he may be becoming either more (some form of) good or LawfulEvil, but it's [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder hard to tell]] and it [[ReformedButNotTamed may not help the heroes much]] even if it happens.
* Frank Booth from ''Film/BlueVelvet'' is a vile, perverted, sadistic and psychopathic gangster, who definitely fits the Chaotic Evil category given his actions throughout the film. From his introduction, which consisted of huffing oxygen while raping Dorothy Valance, it can be seen that he is one of the most evil characters in Creator/DavidLynch's films, and that's saying a lot.
%%* Max Zorin From ''Film/AViewToAKill'' and Xenia Onatopp from ''Film/{{GoldenEye}}'' are both type 4.
* Mary Lou Maloney from the Second and Third ''Prom Night'' movies. An AxCrazy DepravedBisexual who comes back from the dead to murder people (partly out of revenge for her death, though mainly [[ForTheEvulz just for fun]]) as well as using her [[GrandTheftMe possession]] and MindControl powers to make people do evil. Even in life she was a [[AlphaBitch cruel and selfish girl]] who thought nothing of [[KickTheDog dumping her boyfriend right on Prom Night]].
* The ''Franchise/DCExtendedUniverse'' version of Harley Quinn is this, [[AdaptationalVillainy being a lot more psycho and violent than her original (DCAU) version.]] Despite this she is still type one (more chaotic than evil), and not incapable of [[PetTheDog showing kindness.]] [[spoiler: She's probably shifted to ChaoticNeutral by the end of ''Film/BirdsOfPrey2020''.]]
* Adrian Griffin from ''Film/TheInvisibleMan2020'' is an arguable Type 4. He was willing to do [[TheUnfettered anything]] to get back with Cecilia, though, despite his wealth, only resorted to more illegal methods like breaking and entering, drugging Cecilia, attacking Sydney, and [[spoiler: murdering her sister]] ([[AmbiguousSituation Though whether he was doing all of it or using his brother as an enforcer is entirely up to speculation]]).
* Yoon Tae-goo, "The Weird" from ''Film/TheGoodTheBadTheWeird'' starts off as a LaughablyEvil VillainProtagonist that uses underhanded tactics and deceit to deal with his adversaries, in contrast to his LawfulGood partner. He, often unintentionally, causes a ton of destruction wherever he goes, whether it is by robbing and killing a train full of innocent people or taking down the LawfulEvil occupying Japanese army.
* The Kurgan from ''Film/{{Highlander}}'' is a textbook example, being a [[AxeCrazy bloothirsty psychotic asshole]] who murders and tortures people mainly just for fun, and for whom getting the Prize seems like more of an afterthought that anything.
* ''Film/MaskedAvengers'': [[spoiler:Lin Yung Chi]] forms a gang of masked killers to rape and murder for his own amusement.
* ''Film/MadMax1'': The Toecutter leads a gang of bikers exploiting his time's social decay to rape and murder as they please, and specifically kills a cop's family because he dared to kill one of his henchmen in a car chase.
* ''Film/TeenagersFromOuterSpace'': Thor, a mad dog who joins his planet's military because he genuinely believes his race are supreme and also enjoys killing. When sent to capture a deserter, he ends up deciding to defy his superiors and kill him instead.
* ''Film/ThirteenAssassins'': Lord Naritsugu Matsudaira spends his days raping and murdering random people, exploiting the fact that he's the shogun's brother to get away with it all. When a group of assassins sets off to kill him, he finds the ensuing carnage absolutely beautiful and decides to overthrow his brother to plunge Japan into war.
* ''Film/{{Trancers}}'': Martin Whistler, a zombie-making madman who deliberately wants to destroy his society via time travel so he can rule the ashes.
* ''Film/BlackChristmas1974'': Billy is a complete lunatic who shows up at a random sorority house and starts killing the residents for no reason while taunting them with obscene, incoherent phone calls and completely trashing noms for no reason.
* ''Film/TheBlackCobra'': The bandit leader genuinely believes that true freedom is the ability to brutalize and murder anybody he wants, and leads a biker gang in doing just that.
* ''Film/Goth2003'': Goth genuinely believes the true {{goth}} lifestyle is murdering and raping whoever she wants to, and loves corrupting people to her worldview.
* ''Film/{{Wrestlemaniac}}'': El Mascarado is a ravenous beast that exists only to murder people via wrestling.
* ''Film/AlienOutlaw'': The aliens basically show up on Earth and start murdering people ForTheEvulz.
* ''Film/TimeAfterTime'': UsefulNotes/JackTheRipper steals a time machine to keep killing, and finds the modern world to be beautiful because warfare has been perfected, fully intending to use the machine to kill with impunity.
* ''Film/SatansLittleHelper'': The Satan Man basically shows up one day to slaughter an island town ForTheEvulz, and corrupts a child into helping him on a whim.
* ''Film/WitchfinderGeneral'': Matthew Hopkins takes advantage of people's religious anxieties regarding the chaos of the UsefulNotes/EnglishCivilWar to torture and murder women for cash.
* ''Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse'':
** ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy'': Ronan the Accuser, a racist fanatic willing to betray his own government to attempt planetary genocide.
** ''Film/SpiderManHomecoming'': The Vulture steals alien tech from the government and sells it to criminals because he believes the government steps too much on the little guy.
* ''Film/ThouShaltNotKillExcept'': The cult leader thinks he's the Second Coming of Christ, and this gives him the right to slaughter anybody he feels like.
* ''Film/TheHowling'': Eddie Quist rejects the Colony's philosophy of self-control and uses his lycanthropy as a means to become a SerialKiller.
* ''Film/WarriorsOfTheWasteland'': One leads a warband to slaughter the few survivors of humanity and destroy all their knowledge, because he believes that the species doesn't deserve to survive.
* ''Film/{{Blade}}'': Deacon Frost despises the idea of vampires hiding in the shadows and views humans as nothing but food, being willing to summon a blood god to do so.
* ''Film/BubbaTheRedneckWerewolf'': The Devil acts like a slick-talking LawfulEvil deal-maker, but deliberately wrecks them all for his own amusement, while also walking down the street and causing random accidents, including literally taking candy from a baby.
* ''Film/DontKillIt'': Demons are creatures of pure chaos and exist to slaughter whoever they feel like for fun.
* ''Film/Ghostbusters1984'': Gozer the Destructor literally exists entirely to destroy things, showing up to various alternate universes to cause apocalypses for no reason.
* ''Film/NightWatch'': Zavulon acts like the LawfulEvil head of the Dark Others, but secretly hates the orderly system and plots to descend it into war.
* ''Film/{{Hellbenders}}'': Surtr is a DestroyerDeity whose very existence causes a spate of murders, and wants to cause the apocalypse for fun.
* ''Film/NightOfTheScarecrow'': The warlock makes a deal with a small town to make their crops bountiful so long as he can be above the law, starts a hedonism cult amongst the townsfolk, then when he's killed for it goes on a horrific RoaringRampageOfRevenge on his killer's descendants.

[[folder:Anime & Manga]]
* Johan Liebert from ''Anime/{{Monster}}'', a criminal mastermind who is set upon meticulously [[DrivenToSuicide breaking]] and killing ''every'' person he comes in contact with, or turning them [[TheCorrupter into murderers themselves]], just because he can. [[ButForMeItWasTuesday It's not even clear that he enjoys it]]; many times [[ForTheEvulz he just does it.]]
* Michio Yuki from ''Manga/{{MW}}'' also kills people just ForTheEvulz.
%%* What you become when under the influence of [[spoiler: Hinimizawa Syndrome]] in ''Franchise/WhenTheyCry''. Especially [[spoiler: Shion]].
* Akakabuto from ''Manga/GingaNagareboshiGin'' is an example of a monster with limited intelligence, who enjoys the act of killing just for the sake of killing. He will kill anyone and anything that crosses his path, for the sole reason of crossing his path; if you didn't want to be brutally slaughtered, you should have stayed away from his territory.
* In ''Anime/MagicalProjectS'' we have Pixy Misa; she is always given specific orders to defeat Sammy, yet she always ends up doing whatever she wants instead (while still being evil and dangerous to Sammy and her friends). For instance, she usually ends up doing things for her own enjoyment like eating a cake while torturing Sammy ForTheEvulz or trapping kids in a manga. This is no surprise as Pixy Misa actually is [[spoiler:Misao ID]], as opposed to her LawfulGood alter ego Misao Amano; the difference is very apparent.
* ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' has Puppetmon, an AxCrazy, impulsive and immature {{Living Toy|s}}; easily the most obvious example of this alignment in the Franchise/{{Digimon}} anime.
%%** The three other Dark Masters ([=MetalSeadramon=], Machinedramon and Piedmon) also qualify. Their [[TheManBehindTheMan true leader and creator]], Apocalymon fits as well, along with Myotismon's reincarnations [=VenomMyotismon=] and [=MaloMyotismon=].
* Gosterro from ''Anime/BlueCometSPTLayzner''. A psychopathic and obnoxious SPT pilot obsessed with killing the main character Eiji and he's quick to turn against his fellow gradodian soldiers and superiors if they won't help him get his prey or prevent him from killing in general.
* PsychopathicManchild Mao of ''Anime/CodeGeass''.
* While many of the villains of ''Franchise/DragonBall'' may qualify, special mention goes to King Piccolo of the original ''Manga/DragonBall'' and the final form of Majin Buu, called Kid Buu in ''Anime/DragonBallZ''.
** Piccolo desires to take over the world, but states his sole law would be to abolish laws to throw the world into mindless destruction.
** Kid Buu, on the other hand, gleefully destroys everything in his path, to the point where he's more of a force of nature than a character. The first thing he does after regressing to Kid form is blow up Earth because it happens to be there.
** Majin Buu's master Babidi is a high-functioning Chaotic Evil. His goals seem to be to take over the universe, but he accomplishes this by sending Majin Buu to world after world and killing the entire population and destroying the planet itself. He also eliminates any of his minions the instant that they are no longer useful to him.
** Same could be said with Broly from [[Anime/DragonBallZBrolyTheLegendarySuperSaiyan all]] [[Anime/DragonBallZBrolySecondComing three]] [[Anime/DragonBallZBioBroly of]] his movies, who wants nothing more than to destroy everything out of sadism and insanity. Completely averted for his [[Anime/DragonBallSuperBroly canon counterpart]].
** Vegeta (if not NeutralEvil), for his part, revels in violence and murder (something he doesn't grow out of even a little until the very end of the series). What he ''doesn't'' revel in is being under Freeza's thumb, to the point where he teams up with the Z-Fighters to overthrow him. His desire to prove his superiority by defeating Goku in combat keeps him focused and nominally on the side of good, but there's always a risk that he'll go rogue.
** Baby from ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' may speak of high goals like restoring the Tuffle race and enacting justice on the Sayians who wiped them out, he will perform any atrocity or sacrifice anyone to increase his own power. He clearly sees bringing back the Tuffle race just so that they can serve him, and help him to conquer the galaxy in his name. As he becomes more powerful and Goku's survival continutes to frustrate him, he also increasingly unhinged to the point where he even revels in the destruction of his own resurrected people, and would destroy the Earth in an EarthShatteringKaboom just to see the look of shock on Goku's face. He even attempts to murder his own minions who was trying to help him just because those attempts were annoying him.
** Goku Black from ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''. He is {{sadist}}ic, [[AxCrazy psychopathic]], massacred the gods so that they do not interfere in his plan and enjoys creating suffering, chaos and destruction wherever he goes, only to sadistically observe the suffering of all his victims before murdering them [[InTheirOwnImage and remaking the universes to his image and likeness]].
* Doma from ''Manga/DemonSlayerKimetsuNoYaiba''. He is Nihilistic, Psychopathic. Basically, we think human life means nothing, and we say we're going to save human beings, but in fact, this is nonsense, and Doma has done evil for fun and ruined many people's lives. Even the leader of Demons, Muzan, is reluctant to do so, describing him as Chaotic Evil. And Doma is an empty Demon that means nothing to life.
** Most of the Demons are nothing more than murderous [[OmnicidalManiac killing machines]]. Remarkably despite their feral natures and grotesque appearances, they are still capable of intelligence. Some even [[PowerAtAPrice regret becoming what they are]]. However the innocent Demons are few-and-far between the ones that revel in their monstrocity.
* ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'':
** Orochimaru is ''Naruto'''s best example of Chaotic Evil. His primary goal is to become [[GodhoodSeeker "the perfect being"]], and he gleefully defies social conventions (like, say, not killing babies) in pursuit of it, even clearly enjoying how horrified everyone else is when he is caught doing it. He ''really'' nails his mast to this trope, however, in his early appearances when he tries to destroy Konoha and start a war because he thought peace was boring.
** Gaara was Chaotic Evil prior to his HeelFaceTurn, killing everyone who provoked him in the slightest way and seeing his existence as revolving around the act of killing other people. Now he is either NeutralGood or LawfulGood.
** Deidara also falls squarely into this alignment, given that before he was recruited, he was selling his bombs to terrorist groups ForTheEvulz, and as a member of Akatuski tends towards extremely impulsive behavior and gives his reason for fighting as "just because". Even his decision to kill himself rather than lose to Sasuke is presented in a chaotic light, given that rather than the more lawful simple suicide he turns himself into a nuke to try and take Sasuke with him, laughing maniacally at the idea of becoming one of the explosions he loves so much.
* Some characters from the ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' franchise are considered this:
** Yazan Gable of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]]'', the supposed progenitor of most of the franchise's AxCrazy characters. An uneducated but cunning SociopathicSoldier Who doesn't care about the LawfulEvil ideas of the Titans and fights because he enjoys fighting and killing.
** ''Anime/TurnAGundam's'' BigBad Gym Ghingnham is a [[AxCrazy psychotic]] BloodKnight who wants to plunge the world into eternal war in order to cull humanity and leave only those strong enough to survive, whom he considers "true" humans.
** Rau Le Creuset from ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeed Gundam SEED]]'', whose goal was nothing less than [[spoiler:[[OmnicidalManiac the extinction of mankind]]]], is a perfect example of [[TheChessmaster intelligent]], high-functioning Chaotic Evil. Calculating and ruthless, he was able to perfectly mask his ever-advancing insanity, gaining LawfulEvil Zala and NeutralEvil Murata Azrael's trust to [[ManipulativeBastard manipulate]] them, successfully [[spoiler:playing both ZAFT and the Earth Forces against each other, escalating the war to the point where weapons of mass destruction were viable options. He almost got [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt what he wanted]], too...]]
** Lord Djibril of ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeedDestiny Gundam SEED Destiny]]'' is interesting in that he's originally a NeutralEvil [[FantasticRacism Fantastic Racist]], not too terribly dissimilar from his predecessor, Azrael. As the series progresses, however, setbacks and his own [[GeneralFailure stupidity]] push him further and further towards Chaotic Evil, as he lashes out with every weapon he's got, regardless of the impact it will have on the overall strategy of the war. Convinced that his own survival is everything, he throws away his side's chance of winning the war, taking thousands of people with him in the process.
** Ali Al-Saachez from ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'' is a highly skilled mercenary and terrorist who admits that he [[BloodKnight lives solely for war and conflict]], and while he occasionally finds ways to use his intelligence, he feels much more at home on the battlefield, where he gets to kill without restraint.
** ''Gundam 00'' also has Nena Trinity when she's at her worst. Most of the times she's ChaoticNeutral but in the wrong mood she can be exceptionally evil. Well showcased when she blows up a wedding because she was angry they were having fun. She tried to take a dip into NeutralEvil in the second season to fool Ribbons and kill the Innovators when they least expect it. [[spoiler:That plan [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot got shot to hell]] when she dies]].
** Allelujah Haptism's SuperpoweredEvilSide Hallelujah really [[PutTheLaughterInSlaughter enjoys fighting violently]] and [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown brutalizing his opponents]]. [[spoiler:Even after the two had a SplitPersonalityMerge.]]
** Then there's ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamAge Gundam AGE]]'''s EnfanteTerrible (and Ali's in-universe {{expy}}) Desil Galette -- a concrete Type 2. He considers every war as a big game and the soldiers as mere playthings. This was made evident during the series' second arc [[spoiler:when he used his MS's special ability to control some of his allies' MS to stop the protagonist pursuing him]]. [[spoiler:And let's not even delve into how he [[StuffedInTheFridge used the protagonist's love interest]] during the first arc...]]
%%* The EvilTwin Zeno and TheStoic Dufort from ''Manga/ZatchBell''.
* Hao Asakura from ''Manga/ShamanKing''. The Manga version is the WellIntentionedExtremist version of Chaotic Evil, while the Anime incarnation is an AxCrazy Psychopath.
* All the villain groups from ''Manga/SailorMoon'', mostly because they are led by incarnations of Chaos itself who seek to ruin everything in the universe.
* Shinobu Sensui from ''Manga/YuYuHakusho''. Then again, considering that [[spoiler:he has ''seven'' {{Split Personalit|y}}ies]], this isn't exactly easy to pinpoint. [[spoiler:Though Kazuya, the AxCrazy one with an ArmCannon and a HairTriggerTemper, is Chaotic Evil through and through.]]
%%* BigBad Creed Diskenth from ''Manga/BlackCat''.
* Many feel that Jail Scaglietti's actions in ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers'' show a man who seeks to cause chaos and destruction, who just wants to watch the world burn, which places him as a more Chaotic Evil character.
** Toredia Graze of ''AudioPlay/StrikersSoundStageX'' plans on using the Mariage to attack several capital cities to teach people pain like the kind he felt while fighting on Orussia (similar to Pain from ''Naruto'', but unlike him, he doesn't have any plan for a new political order). [[spoiler:After his death, Runessa carries on this plan and takes on this alignment]].
** A large portion of Eclipse infectees from the ''Force'' manga fall into this category as well. The virus turns them into absolute jerkasses, they kill masses wantonly, and most seem to make no effort to even contain themselves with the exception of Touma. Special mention goes to the Grendel for establishing that they have very short-sighted goals and the Huckebein for having no known motive aside from causing more destruction.
* Most villains in the ''Anime/PrettyCure'' series. They just want to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy everything and everyone]]. Just to give an example from the ''[[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCureSplashStar Splash Star]]'' series:
-->'''Shitataare:''' I heard you two gave life back to the Source of the Sky. Good for me. It will be fun to destroy it again.\\
'''Saki:''' So ''you'' are the one who destroyed it!\\
'''Shitataare:''' Yes, and I'm ''proud'' of it!
%%* The Millennium Earl, Road Kamelot, Tyki Mikk and the rest of the Noah Family from ''Manga/DGrayMan''.
* ''Manga/{{Hellsing}}'':
** The Millennium organization. Their only real goals are to wage endless destructive war and to kill Alucard. Rather unusual for [[ThoseWackyNazis Nazis]], who usually tend towards LawfulEvil.
%%** Alucard (who is usually LawfulNeutral) is this at his very worst.
* Makoto Shishio from ''Manga/RurouniKenshin'' spends about 50% of the time here, the other 50% as LawfulEvil. He despises the Meiji Era Japan, a pushover in the face of foreign superpowers, and longs to [[SocialDarwinist conquer the country and turn it into a hell on earth where only the strongest survive]] -- his creed is "The flesh of the weak is the food of the strong."
* ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic'':
** Gauron. He does whatever he damn well pleases... and whatever he damn well pleases is [[ForTheEvulz always evil]]. Sure, he has many goals -- but most of them are [[AxCrazy completely insane]]. He wants to kill (and [[ILoveTheDead rape the dead body of]]) the beautiful Assassin Saint he met [[LoveAtFirstSight once upon a time]]... but he also wants to die a sensational death together with aforementioned Assassin Saint. So yes, his goals completely conflict and make no sense. But one thing you have to give to the guy: he's definitely ''very'' "free-spirited."
** Gates, the villain of ''LightNovel/FullMetalPanic: The Second Raid'' is so thoroughly random in how he goes about causing civil wars and kidnapping diplomats that he becomes [[LaughablyEvil utterly hilarious]].
%%* Vincent Volaju & Tongpu of ''Anime/CowboyBebop''.
* Hansel and Gretel of ''Manga/BlackLagoon'', whose personal philosophy is a distillation of "kill or be killed" and "us or them", with "them" being everyone else on the planet. Their murder-and-mayhem-filled visit to Roanapur, a city populated by LawfulEvil, NeutralEvil and the (very) occasional ChaoticNeutral, is an excellent example of why it isn't only Good aligned characters that will work to stop Chaotic Evil, as almost everyone scrambles to prevent them from causing any more damage.
* [[DeathSeeker Nnoitra Gilga]] from ''Manga/{{Bleach}}'', who has little regard for anything but his violent impulses, and frequently disobeys orders. Most Hollows act this way, and Shrieker, being a serial killer, was also like this when he was alive. [[EvilutionaryBiologist Szyaelaporro Granz]] also leans toward this in his acting independently ForScience.
** While he presents himself as either LawfulNeutral or LawfulEvil, this is where [[GodEmperor Yhwach's]] true alignment lies. While he claims to hate violence and preaches about peace, he's actually an AxCrazy BloodKnight who will [[BadBoss kill his own subordinates]] if he can benefit from it. He is [[EstablishingCharacterMoment introduced]] blasting off the arm of one of his Arrancar soldiers just to gain his attention and later kills him for speculating about the future. It's later revealed that he absorbs the souls of any person that has touched his soul to prolong his life. If he doesn't continuously do this he will revert to a [[AndIMustScream sense-deprived vegetative state]]. That doesn't change the fact that he's clearly [[ForTheEvulz enjoying himself]], [[{{Sadist}} delights in hurting others]] and believes that [[ItsAllAboutMe everything in the world exists for his taking]].
%%* Dilandau from ''Anime/TheVisionOfEscaflowne''.
%%* Million Knives and Legato Bluesummers from ''Manga/{{Trigun}}''.
* Tetsuo from ''Manga/{{Akira}}'' is a psychopath who chafes at being the motorcycle gang's underdog and relishes violence. He goes on a city-destroying rampage as soon as he gets superpowers, mostly because he can.
* Ark of ''Manga/MuhyoAndRoji'' has no ideology besides unlocking the secrets of forbidden magical law and gaining eternal life. Most of its members run the gamut from evil but still sane, like Enchu, who wants Muhyo to suffer, and the enigmatic and dangerous Teeki, to almost AxCrazy like Tomas and Mick. The ghosts tend to vary in alignment, depending on who they were in life, but most of the ones that went insane are of this alignment.
%%* Toshiya and Mon from ''Manga/TheWorldIsMine''. Interestingly, they seem to be switching: Mon, a WildChild of pure Id, has become reluctant to murder people (he's okay with rape) since an encounter with "Hakumadon" while Toshiya, formerly Mon's bitch (complete with [[VillainousCrossdresser girl disguise]]) has grown a spine and become a very dangerous ManipulativeBastard.
%%** Hakumadon itself would qualify, but [[spoiler:it's just a berserk weapon]].
* Phantom Daughter from ''Manga/PsychicSquad'' can't even follow her own decision to ''be'' Chaotic Evil, but knows she wants to be free of her "father" Black Phantom and play with Kaoru forever. [[spoiler:It appears that she's an alternate personality who's kept in check by a LawfulEvil side, both of whom reside in a relatively normal school girl they refer to as the "Doll", which is par for the course for ManipulativeBastard Black Phantom.]]
* Punie, the main character of ''Anime/MagicalWitchPuniechan'' is an example of a Chaotic Evil MagicalGirl. Her incantation, ''Lyrical Tokarev, [[KillEmAll Kill Them All]]'' should be an indicator of things to come.
%%* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds BigBad Darcia from ''Anime/WolfsRain''.
* Most of the pirate crews in ''Manga/OnePiece'' follow this alignment with a twist of NeutralEvil; their captains tend to control them through fear, and there's little they won't do to get money. Although not a pirate, Eneru is also of this alignment, as he kills on a whim, and ultimately plans on leaving anyone -- even his own followers -- behind to be destroyed along with the island if they don't prove worthy to go to the Endless Vearth with him.
%%** For example, the Blackbeard Pirates are a good contrast to the Straw Hat Pirates' ChaoticGood, especially Shiliew of the Rain and the titular Captain, Marshall D. Teach after [[spoiler:he threw off any NeutralEvil tendacies by Marineford. He always could have been Chaotic, but was low-key about it until it was his time to shine]].
* The Hellhound, Guts's personal [[TheHeartless Heartless]], EnemyWithin and SuperpoweredEvilSide from ''Manga/{{Berserk}}'', is very much this. It's every negative emotion that Guts has had since the Eclipse made sentient, and worked in concert with him during the Retribution arc, where he was completely focused on his RoaringRampageOfRevenge against Griffith and the Godhand.
** Several of the worse Apostles the Guts faces are this as well, such as the [[TheHedonist depraved hedonist]] Wyald, who values his own enjoyment, sexual and otherwise, over even the lives of his own men, and couldn't give two craps about serving the God Hand, [[spoiler:something that ultimately gets him killed]].
* Tsukuyomi is probably the only villain of ''Manga/NegimaMagisterNegiMagi'' who qualifies for this.
-->"There is no reason in this world. I seek naught but blood and carnage."
%%* Lucy's [[OmnicidalManiac Third Personality]], her personal [[TheHeartless Heartless]], EnemyWithin and SuperpoweredEvilSide from ''Manga/ElfenLied''; her Nyu personality is TrueNeutral (or simply too childish to have an alignment), and as Kaede she's ChaoticNeutral. Bandou also begins at Chaotic Evil, but CharacterDevelopment moves him into ChaoticNeutral.
* Accelerator of ''LightNovel/ACertainMagicalIndex'' originally began as this, being an AxCrazy who took part on the Level 6 project where he brutally killed over 10,000 MISAKA. CharacterDevelopment shifts him into NeutralGood.
%%* The Devil Choujin (Buffaloman, Sunshine, Ashuraman, Akuma Shogun), who sold their souls to Satan, are strongly this. However, the first three examples made a HeelFaceTurn later on by ''Manga/{{Kinnikuman}}''.
* Jagi from ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'', as well as many {{mooks}} serving him and other bad guys.
* ''Manga/DeathNote'': Kyosuke Higuchi, seeing that he uses the death note for personal gain and [[PsychoForHire enjoys what he does]].
* ''Manga/HajimeNoIppo'':
** Bryan Hawk the savage man from the slums of New York who fights in a erratic way and became a boxer just so he could hurt people.
** Ryuuhei Sawamura is a complete bastard who has no problems with cheating, doesn't obey anyone or anything, boxes solely to torture his opponents and probably isn't above killing people, either. He's even called 'evil' multiple times. Which is odd, considering that never occurred with Bryan Hawk, who somehow manages to be even worse than Sawamura. [[spoiler: Unlike Bryan Hawk, Sawamura ''does'' have a sort-of HeelFaceTurn and settles on ChaoticNeutral. Too bad it's because of a huge accident he was involved in.]]
* Eua, from ''[[VisualNovel/HigurashiWhenTheyCry Higurashi: When They Cru Gou and Sotsu]]'', grants Satoko looping powers as a means of enjoying all the chaos it would cause so she could stave off her boredom.
* Takasugi Shinsuke from ''Manga/{{Gintama}}'' belongs here. While he leads the terrorist group Kihetai, all he wants is [[StrawNihilist the complete destruction of Japan]]. In the chapter that introduces him, Takasugi even tells his former compatriot Katsura that he will destroy everything until there is nothing else to destroy.
* Ladd Russo and probably his whole gang in ''LightNovel/{{Baccano}}''. He's a barely restrained psychopath and his only standard is that he loves killing people who don't expect to die, but will [[KillYouLast spare people who are ok with the thought of being killed by him]]. During the series, he and his gang plan to kill everyone on a train just for the fun of it, and none of them show any real effort at planning other than that.
* MagnificentBastard Yami Bakura and ''especially'' Yami Marik from ''Anime/YuGiOh'' are willing to kill or torture anyone with their Dark Games, even if it isn't necessary for their goals.
%%** Yubel from ''Anime/YuGiOhGX'' also qualifies.
* VillainProtagonist, {{Yandere}} and AxCrazy Yuno [[spoiler:(Specifically her first world incarnation)]] of ''Manga/FutureDiary'' also fits into this alignment. She would be NeutralEvil if not for the sheer rate that she killed people- she can barely go a few chapters without causing violence that would invariably leave at least some people dead, regardless of if they were trying to harm Yukiteru, and she generally kills, dismembers, schemes, plots, manipulates and does a lot of shit to people on a whim with little to no regard about them or her being caught (not that the average cop would survive trying to catch her anyway).
** Minene Uryu originally began as this, being a StrawNihilist NayTheist MadBomber who wanted to destroy religion as revenge. CharacterDevelopment [[HeelFaceTurn shifts]] her to ChaoticNeutral.
* ''Manga/FairyTail'': Zero, who just wants [[OmnicidalManiac to destroy anything with a form]], and Zancrow: "What you retreated, '''[[KillItWithFire BURN]]'''."
* The titular ''Anime/ChargemanKen'' is an ''[[DesignatedHero unintentional example]]''. He goes around, nonchalantly committing mass genocide. His more specific (and considerably egregious) crimes include:
** [[WhyAmITicking Using his friend as a bomb]].
** [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown Shooting a Jural in the back as it was fleeing]].
** And ''[[KillItWithFire torching houses for no apparent reason]]''.
%%* Diva of ''Anime/BloodPlus''.
%%* BloodKnight AntiHero Kurodou Akabane of ''Manga/GetBackers''.
%%* All of the episodic villains, and especially the series BigBad Kyogoku Tei, of ''Literature/RequiemFromtheDarkness''.
* The prologue of ''Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann'' has been retconned to depict a BadEnd where [[spoiler:Simon]] became addicted to his own power, becoming Chaotic Evil, and sought to maximize it all costs, [[spoiler:causing a massive war that triggered the Spiral Nemesis, destroying the universe.]] In the canon timeline he is ChaoticGood.
* Attila from ''Manga/{{Dreamland}}'' has no ulterior motives or ideology; all he wants is to instil terror in the hearts of people and, on occasions, contemplate "the poetry of ashes" (i.e. burn entire cities for his own pleasure). And he's a [[TheJuggernaut Juggernaut]] who could very well destroy a good part of Dreamland on a whim if he felt like it, but if he did he would have nothing left to destroy and that wouldn't be fun.
%%* Kano, the ultimate BigBad of ''Anime/{{Texhnolyze}}''. He's intelligent, eloquent and charismatic, but he's also a deranged solipsist who views the entire world to be inside his mind.
* ''Manga/Reborn2004'' gives us Hibari Kyoya, who fits very neatly into the Type 1 category; while he's not a sociopath, he's both ruthless and bloodthirsty, and has absolutely no qualms about killing whatsoever -- [[spoiler:in the Future Arc he even initially claimed that he would kill Tsuna if he failed to entertain him.]]
* Subverted with MonsterClown Hisoka of ''Manga/HunterXHunter''. He is, at first blush, a solid Type 1, but he's actually a very violent ChaoticNeutral instead of outright evil. His actions are very often purely out of self-interest (even when he does help people, it's more for him than them) and they usually revolve around finding, cultivating, fighting and killing [[InLoveWithYourCarnage strong, very entertainingly ''interesting'' opponents]] to possibly satisfy his [[SexIsViolence sexual appetite]] (or something like it), whether the opponents are ''good'', ''neutral'', ''evil'' or anything else. However, he's so dedicated to this, and filters ''so much'' through his BloodKnight goggles, he goes beyond even self-interested Chaos or Evil and hits a very weird BlueAndOrangeMorality in which he [[EvenEvilHasStandards has rules and standards]] he refuses to relent on. If it ain't attractive, it's a either a roach to squash or a reason to ignore it, tolerate it or, rarely, fear it. How he views other characters varies over time, and he can switch from [[MoodSwinger "interested" to "not interested: boring, you are dead now"]] or visa versa at a very confusing moment's notice.
%%* Default alignment of witches in ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica''.
* ''Manga/BlackButler'': The anime-only BigBad [[spoiler:Angela/Ash]] is perhaps a unique case where the Chaotic Evil villain ''thinks'' that it's LawfulGood. This FallenAngel believes that most [[FantasticRacism if not all]] humans are "[[PureIsNotGood Impure]]", and is therefore out to [[WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide cleanse all this impurity from the world]]. Said angel has gone on to define anyone who is [[SexIsEvil sexually active]], [[BlindObedience overly passive]], [[YouHaveFailedMe weak]] or [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge driven by murderous hatred]] as impure. Ordinarily this would put they in [[LawfulEvil a totally different camp]]... if not for the fact that they are[[MoralMyopia completely unaware that]] they are [[{{Hypocrite}} guilty of all the above]] ''[[UpToEleven even moreso than the so-called impure victims ever were]].'' Then there's the fact that while [[spoiler:s/he]] spoils [[spoiler:his/her]] own genocidal goals multiple times when a key UnwittingPawn suddenly proves itself to be "impure" -- and therefore expendable -- long before their intended role was finished...
* ''Anime/KillLaKill'' has Nui Harime, the AxCrazy {{sadist}}ic {{cut|e and Psycho}}ie who enjoys [[{{Troll}} pissing everyone off]] and is also the one responsible for [[spoiler:killing Ryuko's father]].
* Dark Schneider, the protagonist of ''Manga/Bastard1988'', is explicitly described as "chaotic evil (with neutral tendencies)." He's a type 1, as his motive for world domination is more about getting what he believes should be his (all of the women) than oppressing anyone.
* The overall BigBad of ''Franchise/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', Dio Brando, fits this trope, with a bit of NeutralEvil mixed in. His quest to TakeOverTheWorld is driven solely by {{ambition| is evil}} and [[ItsAllAboutMe egotism]], and he will gladly force people to help him do so, despite his penchant for [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness offing them]]. He also has [[TheUnfettered no limits in what atrocities he'll do]], and gleefully commits [[KickTheDog needlessly cruel acts]]. Why? Because [[{{Jerkass}} he's a dick]], that's why.
* The Remnants of Sephiroth in ''Anime/FinalFantasyVIIAdventChildren'' are Chaotic Evil in a manner fitting superpowered teenagers. Each of them is more or less a PsychopathicManchild in a different kind of way. They run around making trouble without a clear plan but seeking obsessively to fulfill the goal that Sephiroth has set for them but that for them is an emotional necessity. Kadaj is the leader and reportedly represents Sephiroth's insanity, and is both vaguely sadistic and vaguely unstable. Loz ([[DumbMuscle representing Sephiroth's strength]]) is a big baby who beats up people for fun. Yazoo ("allure") doesn't have a lot of personality but goes along with the general theme. Of the three, he's probably the closest to Sephiroth's dispassionate and total NeutralEvil.
%%* Satou from ''Manga/{{Ajin}}''.
* ''Manga/HappySugarLife'':
** Shio and Asahi's father is depicted as such from several flashbacks. One of the first instances of this is him [[spoiler: raping Yuuna after she accidentally bumped into him]], and upon being married, he continually raped her, topping this with horrific domestic abuse, the most disturbing of which involved ripping off Asahi's fingernails out of morbid curiosity.
** The two thugs that beat up Asahi at the park and then later plan on using Shio as bait to lure her brother so they could beat him up again solely ForTheEvulz.
* Barry the Chopper of ''Manga/FullmetalAlchemist'' is an AxCrazy SerialKiller with a particular obsession with cutting up women. In the 2003 anime, he tells Ed he kills people because it's fun; in the manga and ''Brotherhood'', he openly fantasises about the prospect of killing ''his own body'', which he's no longer connected to. Either way, he's violent, murderous and basically incapable of dealing with the world in non-murderous ways; the closest he gets to a HeelFaceTurn is being pointed at Mustang's enemies instead of his allies.
* Keyaru, the protagonist of ''LightNovel/RedoOfHealer'', is dedicated to his revenge, and to this end he has [[SerialRapist raped]] and [[SerialKiller killed]] tons of people. The only thing that allows him to still qualify as a hero [[NominalHero of sorts]] is that the people he does this to are ''usually'' [[EvilerThanThou much worse than he is]], often being responsible for many problems around the kingdom.
* [[PsychoKnifeNut Himiko Toga]] from ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' has major [[AxCrazy psychotic vibes]], that makes her largely less stable, than most members of the League of Villains. This "sweet" little schoolgirl, revels in torturing and stabbing her victims, sadistically and gleefully. Her [[{{Yandere}} obsession]] with Izuku Midoriya, only adds further incentive towards her madness.
* Most of the Cursed Spirits from ''Manga/JujutsuKaisen'' fall under this category, being monsters born out of humanity's negative emotions and attacking them with malice, but Hanami is an especially interesting case who arrives at this alignment because he's genuinely concerned about humanity's ongoing abuse of Mother Nature; he's just willing to slaughter a whole lot of people to provide her relief.

** Deathwing the Destroyer, progenitor of the black dragonflight. The reason he first joined the Old Gods was to be free of his burden as the Dragon Aspect of Earth - which involved destroying said earth to free them in the process, but who carsd about that? He was a more reserved, manipulative character in his earlier appearances, but by the time of ''Cataclysm'', he had fully become the archetypical ChaoticEvil villain: a violent force of nature which sowed destruction, seemingly at random, for no reason other than rage and hatred. For that matter, most of the more insane followers of the Old Gods fit into that category as well.

** Deathwing the Destroyer, progenitor of the black dragonflight. The reason he first joined the Old Gods was to be free of his burden as the Dragon Aspect of Earth - which involved destroying said earth to free them in the process, but who carsd about that? He was a more reserved, manipulative character in his earlier appearances, but by the time of ''Cataclysm'', he had fully become the archetypical ChaoticEvil chaotic evil villain: a violent force of nature which sowed destruction, seemingly at random, for no reason other than rage and hatred.
