However, in their second year, they find themselves in different classes and start drifting apart, especially when Mato befriends another girl, Yuu (voiced by KanaAsumi). Meanwhile, in another world, Black★Rock Shooter is seeking out and confronting the mysterious, evil Dead Master. What is B★RS's reason for wanting to fight this Dead Master, and what relation does this have to Mato and her friends?

''Black★Rock Shooter'' is a character who appears in the following: an OVA (with a January 2012 related anime series [[http://yaraon.blog109.fc2.com/blog-entry-3463.html confirmed]]) produced by new animation studio Ordet (comprised of people who had left KyotoAnimation) and released by stream in July 2010, an RPG (which may or may not have anything to do with the OVA) entitled "Black★Rock Shooter THE GAME" by Ryu's Office, directed by Ryuta Konuma (who did ''[[ValkyriaChronicles Valkyria Chronicle II]]'' and ''{{Persona 3}}''), and a manga.

Black★Rock Shooter was originally a character (she's the girl to the right with the black bikini and long twin tails) created by an artist known as ''huke'', among plenty of other material that he uploaded to his PIXIV profile. One fateful day ''ryo'', leader of {{Vocaloid}} synthesizer band ''{{Supercell}}'', approached huke to create a song after having been inspired by his work, while also inviting him to join the creative team of the band. This way, the two collaborated on a music video, with huke making some small adjustments to Black★Rock Shooter's design and creating the version known today. Once uploaded on {{Nico Nico Douga}} in 2008, and soon after on [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsFZxJigepg YouTube]], both the song (preformed by [[{{Vocaloid}} Hatsune Miku]]) and character became a massive success (on the internet anyway), and in 2009 it was announced that an anime would be made based on an original story created by huke.

However, since its rise to fame came with the video and song, most people [[DidNotDoTheResearch assumed]] that Black★Rock Shooter was a [[DarkerAndEdgier "dark version"]] of Hatsune Miku and maybe even a new ''{{Vocaloid}}'' character, despite being an original creation by huke. To be fair, they’re both {{Pettanko}}s and the two feature twintails, although that’s where the similarities end.
