* AdaptedOut: The episode removes the section with two campers named Tommy and Chris.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: In the book, Roger is introduced in the middle of the story while in the episode he's introduced along with the other campers at the starts.
* AdaptationalJerkass: While Larry was a jerk in the book, the episode pumps it up more. In the book he softened up when Billy saves him. In the episode this doesn't happen and in fact, when some of the kids get in danger he runs away and pretends he was never there.
* AllThereInTheManual: The ''Goosebumps Presents'' book reveals that Billy's last name is Harlan.
* {{Bowdlerise}}: The guns in the climax are changed to crossbows.
* CanonForeigner: George, a member of the staff who works on electronics, is added for this episode.
* HollywoodToneDeaf: Uncle Al and the rest of the campers singing "Nightmoon, oh Nightmoon".
* MixAndMatchCritters: Sabre in this version is a wolf-gorilla thing.
* NamedByTheAdaptation: This episode gives Billy a surname: Harlan.
* RealAfterAll: In both the book and the episode, Sabre is thought to be just a scary story. While we never find out he's real or not in the book, the episode explicitly shows him [[spoiler: although he turns out to be a robot.]]

* DarkerAndEdgier: Though not to the same extent as Literature/WelcomeToDeadHouse or Literature/StayOutOfTheBasement, this book is surprisingly really dark compared to the other books in the franchise. The main characters find snakes in their beds, a snake bites Mike's hand, the boys aren't allowed to go outside because a dangerous creature named Sabre comes out at night, etc, etc. WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids indeed.

The first ''Literature/{{Goosebumps}}'' book about camping.

Billy is going to Camp Nightmoon and very quickly makes a few friends. The bad news is that just as quickly, things start going wrong. Kids start having accidents happen to them before going missing, but the counselors don't seem to care. Billy has to figure out what is going on, before it's too late.

This book was adapted into episodes 5 and 6 of the first season of [[Series/{{Goosebumps}} the TV series]].

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Billy finds it odd that his parents told him to "do your best" when he left. [[spoiler: Turns out they said that because everything was a test, and they wanted him to do his best on it.]]
* HumanAliens: [[spoiler: It turns out everyone is one]]
* INeverGotAnyLetters: The campers are expected to write to their parents every day. Except main protagonist Billy discovers an entire sack full of these letters, which aren't being mailed out.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: [[spoiler: The twist is that the events were all a test to see if Billy can obey the rules at the right time and defy them at the right time as well. The test is done to see if he can handle an expiation to the dangerous planet...of Earth.]]
