* Kaiju: The more they eat, the more gigantic the Hroshii become. Lummox is much bigger than her people because she was overfed, who put her on a diet as being enormous is AwesomeButImpractical when you're too massive to board a star ship.

Added DiffLines:

* TropeyComeHome: John has to track down a runaway huge Lummox across town in the beginning, which isn't hard due to the property damage she accidentally causes, leaving a destructive no-fatality trail. Towards the middle of the story, the Hroshii rescue their princess but she refuses to leave without her HumanPet.

* SuperToughness: The Hroshii are virtually invincible, they may as well be considered practically indestructible by our standards. Lummox herself shrugs off a shot from an anti-tank rifle, consumes poisons happily, survives an attempt at drowning, and even withstands explosives. The police tasked with its destruction out of desperation consider tricking the creature into ingesting said explosives instead, though never get the chance. Its unlikely this would've had any effect either, because Lummox found their ineffectual attempts to destroy very amusing at first before she got bored at their frustration.

* HelicopterParents: John's mother, Mrs. Stuart, is determined to override his choice of careers, insisting that he study law rather than go into space in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. She also bullies John into signing away Lummox to a museum, and is in the habit of reading any papers she might happen to find when tidying up his bedroom on the theory that "there should be no secrets between parents and children".

* HumanPet: The Thomas family thinks Lummox is their pet. She disagrees, seeing the successive generations of John Thomases as her pets. Some humans think at the end of the book that having a human pet is going to become rather popular among the Hroshii soon, thanks to Lummox setting the trend (she's royalty).

The trope "I Never Told You My Name" is about a character letting slip they know another character's name when they aren't supposed to, not merely a character not telling another character their name.

* INeverToldYouMyName: Lummox has picked up a few nicknames over the generations, including "Lummie" and the aptly named "Cuddle-pup", though she's so taken with these hypocorisms, she never reveals her true Hroshian name to any Earthling.

* WeWillAllFlyInTheFuture: Houses have "roof entrances" for the benefit of people in Flying Cars; police cars seem to be Flying Cars as a matter of course (including the local police chief's "bright red command car"). "Air buses" are also mentioned, along with "private air cars". The teenagers have the aforementioned "flight harnesses", a kind of Helicopter Pack.
