* Series/Dragnet: Naturally, many of the criminals throughout the franchise – the radio version and all of the TV versions – lack empathy. One of the most notable is the hit-and-run driver who, after the bereaved says his piece, comments very matter-of-factly, "Pretty upset, isn't he?", and is only concerned with how long he'll be in the slammer.

** Sheldon is a tedTropesion. He is capable of understanding basic emotional responses, but because Sheldon is neurotic and is socially awkward, he lacks the ability to understand the more subtle social cues, such as sarcasm, and has a hard time understand why people get upset over certain things. Sheldon is also extremely blunt with his opinions and tells everything exactly as how he sees it, which upsets people and Sheldon is confused as to why they react that way.

* Series/DarkOracle: Blaze, Violet, and the comic-book Sage all fully subscribe to ItsAllAboutMe, and have no empathy for anyone but themselves. Omen starts out this way but gets better. As Cally notes, they're all "ink on paper" and as such, have no innate ability to care about others.

* A rare heroic version occurs in Series/HomicideLifeOnTheStreet. As a coping mechanism, the detectives tend to lack empathy for the victims and treat the investigation into the VictimOfTheWeek as a job because otherwise it would emotionally devastate them. Whenever they do get emotionally involved in a case, the results are often tragic.

* Series/ExtraordinaryAttorneyWoo: Young-woo is a reconstruction, as she's an interesting example of a character who has low empathy but is undoubtedly a good person. Due to being autistic, Young-woo can't easily identify other people's emotions and has trouble understanding them unless it's a situation she has personal experience with, causing her to seem overly-blunt and pragmatic to some people. This sometimes helps her as an attorney, as she's able to examine cases logically and is less prone to her emotional responses getting in the way, but it sometimes harms her friendships, as she's InnocentlyInsensitive and is unlikely to notice she's hurt someone's feelings until she's told. However, she has an extremely strong moral compass and cares deeply for others; empathy may not be her strong suit, but compassion is, and her sense of altruism is higher than that of most of her colleagues. She's a very good case study in the distinction between empathy and morality, and how having low empathy doesn't mean someone's cruel.
