* FantasticTerrorists: One of the problems Mega-City One has had to endure was a wave of mutant terrorism after they had been allowed entry into the city as refugees under Hershey's administration but were still objecting to the FantasticRacism and legal restrictions they had to deal with. This was especially true after the new Chief Judge Dan Francisco and his deputy Martin Sinfield reversed the repeal of the anti-mutant laws and a mutant terrorist cell tried to assassinate Sinfield.

** The office of Chief Judge (pretty much the dictator of Mega City One) has seen a pretty high turnover rate since the start of the comic, with many not being in office for more than five years tops. Several Chief Judges have been murdered or committed suicide during their terms in office. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why Judge Dredd himself has always refused the big seat.

* ImportedAlienPhlebotinum: Mega-City One has a functioning InterdimensionalTravelDevice, but it was reverse-engineered from technology brought over by the Dark Judges from their MirrorUniverse. A double whammy, as it's not even native to their own dimension either--they just stole it from four aliens who happened to visit Deadworld by mistake.

* HammyVillainSeriousHero: Judge Dredd is so devoted to the job of JudgeJuryAndExecutioner and so dour that he's widely known by his colleagues as [[PerpetualFrowner "Stoney Face"]]. His RoguesGallery tends to be much more cartoonish, such as the Dark Judges, a group of undead mass-murdering justices constantly spouting catch-phrases, and Mean Machine Angel, a frothing-at-the-mouth juggernaut-esque cyborg with a dial on his head indicating his level of anger.

** ''Dark Judges: Fall of Deadworld''. A dystopian future where the world is ruled by a totalitarian government run by Judges. Judges having total control over all aspects of the law as well as being judge, jury and executioner. Sound familiar? Well, one day a Judge, Sidney Death, comes to the conclusion that since all crime is committed by the living, life itself a crime--punishable by death. A supernatural force comes into play, allowing Judge Death to take control of the government and enforce his law. This leads to the creation of the Dark Judges. With their rise comes the eventual extinction of humanity. The story follows regular people trying to survive, rebels seeking to overthrow the government, and ex-Judges trying to stop Judge Death. Among other things. It's also frustrating because you get attached to some of the characters but you know how it will end.
