* In ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie'', while ''WesternAnimation/TheSuperMarioBrosMovie'':
** Donkey Kong is a cocky show-off, but he's not a bad person and he does develop a genuine friendship with Mario later on -- and despite his frustrations with his situation, [[IGaveMyWord he honors the agreement to help the Mushroom Kingdom]]. Also despite his harsh statement about Mario's daddy issues earlier, [[spoiler:he is later happy for Mario getting praised by his dad to the point he brings him and his family and friends into a group hug]].
*** While traveling on Rainbow Road, he makes fun of Mario for trying to flirt with Peach. However, when Peach politely asks DK and Toad to back off, he does so without a begrudging attitude. [[spoiler:Plus [[ShipperOnDeck he is later smiling with approval at Mario and Peach holding hands upon reuniting]] after crashing her forced wedding to Bowser.]]
*** [[spoiler:With some effort, he halts the wheel causing the prisoners to drop into the lava and reverses it to save them all, and shields Peach and Toad from falling debris once they're all thrust into Brooklyn.]]
** Cranky Kong might seem, well, cranky most of the time, but he is a fair and just ruler:
*** While he at first is unwilling to help the Mushroom Kingdom, he was willing to give Mario, Peach, and Toad a chance to prove themselves, plus he even gave Mario a fighting chance by placing power-ups across the arena with no strings attached. Once Mario wins, he takes it in stride and immediately agrees to help the Mushroom Kingdom.
*** While he, at first, laughs uproariously at Mario's presence the moment the latter challenges him for his army, he quickly proves himself to be a ReasonableAuthorityFigure towards him by striking a deal with him that if Mario can defeat his son Donkey Kong, he will help the Mushroom Kingdom, even though Mario is in a social class lower than him.
*** His behavior towards DK is more of how he sees DK's antics as an embarrassment, not that he's embarrassed to have DK as his son. [[spoiler:When it seems like the Blue Shell sent DK and Mario to their deaths, Cranky is clearly devastated by it. When DK not only is shown to be alive but saves all the prisoners and Cranky, he is overjoyed and actually asks DK to do his signature "Pec Dance", something DK says he'll do later, as there are more pressing matters at the moment, something that clearly impresses Cranky too.]]

[[spoiler:They also cheer for the Bros. after the two save Brooklyn]].
** Mario and Luigi's father was quite critical of their decisions, but he [[InnocentlyInsensitive didn't mean to hurt Mario's feelings]] when reprimanding him and is only stern because he's worried about their future. He also doesn't hide how [[SoProudOfYou proud he is]] when [[spoiler:they save Brooklyn at the end of the film]].

** [[Characters/MonsterVerseFamilies Mark Russell]] is cynical, HolierThanThou, impulsive and [[ItsAllAboutMe self-absorbed]]; and in his [[Film/GodzillaKingOfTheMonsters2019 first appearance]] he's nursing a spiteful grudge against Godzilla and a {{Tragic Bigot}}ry against Titans generally, and treats his ex-colleagues like shit with anti-Titan tirades when he sees them again. But he really does love his daughter Madison and his ex-wife Emma despite having been a crappy parent and a failure of a husband, and he's committed to getting Maddie and Emma [[spoiler:(before the latter's EvilAllAlong is revealed)]] back as well, as regretting his past mistakes and going out of his way to go back and rescue the G-Team from nigh-certain death in Antarctica.

* ''WesternAnimation/Encanto'': Isabela is rude, uptight and abrasive towards her youngest sister Mirabel, but only acts this way due to her amount of pressure having to be perfect 24/7 thanks to Alma. Regardless if she never apologizes to Mirabel for her rudeness, she does at least [[TookALevelInKindness become nicer towards her later on]].

* The Beast from ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast''. At the start of the movie, he is introduced as a rude, [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], [[HairTriggerTemper bad-tempered]] and inhospitable JerkAss. However, his CharacterDevelopment is all about him toning down his jerkassery and developing the heart of gold. When he sees Belle about to get attacked by wolves, he rushes in to save her. Even before his CharacterDevelopment, it was shown that he still had a heart of gold deep down, as evidenced by him showing regret over scaring her out of the West Wing.

* The Klumps in ''Film/TheNuttyProfessor'' are all crass louts who mortify Sherman with their uncouth behavior. But they love and care for Sherman and assure him he's wonderful the way he is.
