* Perhaps bordering on fridge heartwarming, but Richard's bike is pretty impressively set up. With the board across the front and the lights. Considering we see his father working on the treehouse, it's not a far stretch to imagine he was the one who created the safety additions to his son's bike. No matter how much he feels disconnected from his son, he still wants him to feel safe enough to ride his bike.

* With all the things Richard has in his room, from the earthquake kit to the broken glass boots, one can only assume he either saved up money for them, which would take a while for a child. Or else his parents bought them for him, to give him peace of mind. If the latter, it really is nice to see his parents so willing to help him feel safe in their home.

* At the end, Richard, who told all three books that he'd check them out, is told he can only take two. The librarian, Mr. Dewey, removes [[LovableCoward Horror]] from the top of the stack. Richard protests.

* I really liked the scene near the end when the Pagemaster ''summoned'' the four characters Richard had to face in his challenges. It was cool the way they all congratulated him, each in their own way.
