** And yet another subtler one for Simpson. We find out after the Battle of Wismar that Simpson had his heart set on a Navy career, which was derailed by the death of his older brother which necessitating him taking over his family's company. The Ring of Fire took that from him... but it ultimately gave him back the career he really wanted, while also setting in motion the events that would lead to reconciling with his son. It may not seem like it, but in the end, the Ring of Fire was the best thing to ever happen to John Chandler Simpson.

* Before the battle of Jena, a 'downtimer' German lieutenant named Ferdinand mocks the Americans for using women in combat, predicting that they'll be worse that useless. Shortly thereafter, [[FriendlySniper Julie Sims]] annihilates all of the enemy's top officers in a matter of minutes, leading to an incredibly quick victory without a single German casualty. Ferdinand hesitates, feeling [[ScarsAreForever a scar he carries from a battle years before]], then abruptly snatches off his helmet and leads the whole contingent in a cheer for "Joo-li".

* Before the battle of Jena, Ferdinand, one of the 'down-timer' German lieutenants, is mocking the Americans' decision to have women fight, saying that they'll start [[DamselInDistress screaming in terror]], their men will run off to comfort them, and it'll be down to the Germans to fight the battle. ''After'' the battle of Jena, in which [[FriendlySniper Julie]] has taken down the top dozen offers of the approaching 'army', who then surrendered without firing a shot to the cavalry and APC, Heinrich (Ferdinand's boss) begins gently mocking Ferdinand for his cynicism ... and Ferdinand, after a brief hesitation, and after feeling [[ScarsAreForever the ridged scar a pike gave him in battle years before]], abruptly snatches off his helmet and starts up a cheer for "Joo-li" that the entire German contingent joins him in.

* Priscilla Totman uses her obstetrics training to deliver the child of Crown Prince Dara, saving both mother and son when she begins it becomes apparent the child is a breech birth. The Emperor summons Priscilla to his throne and, before the entire court, has her weighed on a human-sized scale against silver bars. Which is awesome in and of itself- up until Princess Nadira hands the child to Priscilla, adding his weight to hers when the final tally is being made.

-> '''Nadira''': Take him. For surely without you, he would not be the weight and treasure that he is.

[[AC:1634: The Galileo Affair]]
* Ruy Sanchez and his dogged pursuit of Sharon Nichols begins as a joke that Sharon plays along with- until she realizes his courtship is SeriousBusiness in his eyes. At first she indulges the old goat, but she finds that his word is as good as gold and when he is smitten by a woman, he becomes totally devoted to her. His employer from the Spanish Netherlands remarks that he's had multiple wives in his 55+ years of life, each meeting an untimely demise, and he'd never been unfaithful to one of them (and had put several men in the ground for insulting them).

[[AC:1634: The Ram Rebellion]]
* Florence, a borderline Hoarder, has a treasure trove of unused Christmas gifts, jars, cans, bottles, and other "garbage" in her basement that would bring her enough wealth to become landed nobility. But everyone in town also knows that she has a secret stash of Costco coffee- her one vice. She starts going into raging caffeine withdrawal due to trading it all for extra livestock.
* Most of Florence's stress comes from trying to find a particular type of Ram to continue breeding ewes that make fine wool. Her only breeding Ram that survived the Ring of Fire is an ornery creature with terrible wool of his own that will ruin the pedigree of her flock. It's named "Brillo".

* The blossoming relationship between Princess Kristina and Prince Ulrik. While Ulrik was already quite pleased at the prospect of marrying Kristina despite their considerable age gap -- his worst fear having been married off to a dull, boring noblewoman, which Kristina is most ''decidedly'' not -- the slow growth of trust and affection between them is a heartwarming signal of things to come. As of 1636, Kristina's greatest fear is Ulrik abandoning her. This is one ArrangedMarriage that, quite touchingly, looks like it's going to [[PerfectlyArrangedMarriage turn out all right]].

** Another one involving John Chandler Simpson: he and his wife Mary ''finally'' healing the breach in their marriage that had been slowly breaking open ever since their son Tom's wedding, with John rediscovering the girl he first fell in love with, and Mary the man she always knew -- but rarely saw -- lay under her husband's FrozenFace. From then on, the two remain very HappilyMarried.
