* The running gag of the [[BrawnHilda Huge]] [[GirlPosse Crew's]] endearing – if often [[AbbhorentAdmirer unwelcome]] – crush on Ned. Considering his hobby is helping his classmates with his School Survival Guide, it's a nice inversion of AllGirlsWantBadBoys, where these rough and tumble girls crush on a genuine NiceGuy. Bonus points in the episode where Moze – a [[ItMakesSenseInContext tentative member of the Crew at the time]] – sics the Huge Crew on the Spelling Bees for harassing Ned and Cookie.

* Ned spends the entirety of "Guide to: Substitute Teachers" trying to help Mr. Weiner bring his puppetry style to a middle school classroom. He says the guy was his favorite teacher back in fifth grade and inspired the guide, so he does whatever he can to help him succeed. Ultimately, Mr. Weiner wins over the other kids and gets them interested in course material by playing to their love of more insulting humor.

* In contrast to the Creator/DanSchneider approach, all the kids are shown to have good relationships with their parents, even if they're never seen onscreen. Even when they're concerned about how their parents will react, it's a far more understandable fear of disappointment (Ned not wanting anything lower than a B-) or getting in trouble for actually breaking the rules (Cookie's forgery scheme).

** Ned gets a new backpack akin to Backpack Boy's, so it's overloaded with assorted items. One of the things Ned uses it for is to give a cake to a classmate who was upset about people forgetting her birthday.

* In "Guide to: New Grade", Moze has some issues with the new iTeacher being unreasonably hard on her. Dr. Wright tells her to give her a chance as maybe she's just nervous and she didn't like him when they first met. They soon start making jokes about her hermit status not knowing she's right next to them. The next day Moze is fully expecting detention or a ReasonYouSuckSpeech, instead, she apologizes. She then explains she used to be scared of her students and she promised herself she wouldn't be this year and when she heard of Moze's reputation she overdid it. Moze is able to relate as she was trying to do the opposite and be less abrasive.

** A similar moment happens in “Guide To: Secrets” when Loomer sees Crony going into the sewing club. He confronts Crony about why he’s there and Cookie claims that Crony was helping him carry in rolls of fabric. While he does join in on Loomer making fun of Cookie for “being in” the sewing club, Crony actually appreciates Cookie’s help.

* In "Guide to: Career Week" Ned is distraught when he gets his aptitude test results and finds out his best career paths are all education related. Crubbs takes Ned under his wing to teach him about being a Vice-Principal. Eventually, Ned tells Crubbs that he doesn't want to be a Vice Principal and Crubbs reveals to Ned that he didn't want to be one when he was a teen neither. When he was Ned's age, he wanted to become a [[Series/MiamiVice Florida-based detective]]. However, once he actually did it, he was frustrated that he couldn't help the bad guys, just punish them. He then became a vice principal because that way he could help out teenagers before they chose the wrong path, which he considers to be even more rewarding, showing he's not the cartoonishly authoritarian figure he's usually portrayed as. Ned admits that actually sounds pretty cool and reconsiders the idea of becoming an educator.

Cookie does his best to change that by immediately flunking some test intentionally. When asked why he's doing this, Cookie reveals he doesn't want to skip eighth grade because he doesn't want to leave his friends behind.

* In "Guide to: Health", After spending the entire day unintentionally causing trouble for Mr. Sweeney's class looking for some talcum powder for an embarrassing itch, Ned comes across Mr. Sweeney in the halls, seemingly red with anger. At first Ned is scared, but he sees Mr. Sweeney holding a bitten hotdog and quickly makes the case that he's choking, and quickly performs the heimlich maneuver to save him. After explaining why he was acting up, Mr. Sweeney, completely understanding about his situation, gives Ned the powder he was after, but before Ned leaves to administer the powder, Mr. Sweeney [[SincerityMode thanks him for saving his life]].
** A small one, but Mr. Sweeney does mention that if Ned had simply told him from the beginning, he would have given him the powder regardless.
** Ned ends the guide with saying how Health is more than a class, it can be lifesaving.
