* A meta example and quite a story. Then in 2015, they reveal ''VideoGame/MetroidPrimeFederationForce'' which... Simply put, not a lot of people were happy with it and it only made things appear worse for Samus and the franchise. ** In January 2019, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLIv_UXI_So it was announced]] that because the game wasn't meeting their standards of quality, ''Metroid Prime 4'' would have its development restarted from scratch by Creator/RetroStudios. While this meant that the game would [[DevelopmentHell be delayed indefinitely]], the overall fan reaction to the delay was surprisingly sympathetic. This is mainly due to not only Nintendo's transparency on the situation, but then recent controversies over crunch time and [[ChristmasRushed rushed development]] among AAA developers leading to games of questionable quality, and that the ''Metroid'' franchise had been trying to reestablish its reputation of quality over the last few years after a long drought sandwiched between two polarizing games (helped by ''Samus Returns'' and the inclusion of Ridley and Dark Samus as fighters in ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate''). While news of a delay was disappointing, the fans were willing to accept it as the cost for quality control (especially since ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'', a game that similarly went through delays upon announcement, ultimately became out as one of the best-received games of 2017).
** And now, in 2021, almost 20 years after Fusion, thanks to the success of Samus Returns, we are finally getting the official continuation of Samus' story with Metroid Dread. Miracles happen, sometimes just a little late.

** Samus can return the favour by saving them before she escapes Zebes. One Etecoon even slowly walks away from the wall Samus blows up for their escape, approaching her and stopping in front as if to thank her, before turning around and escaping with the other two.

* TheStinger at the end of the credits of ''VideoGame/MetroidZeroMission'' has a cute little bonus: a carving Samus made as a little girl during her time growing up with the Chozo. The carving can be seen during the fight against the Chozo Mural, but the player has to squint at the bottom of the screen to see it and no details about it are evident until the game's ending.
