Made Special mention also goes to the Whizz Kid, a devoted fan of the Psychic Circus who, even better that though it's aimed at the BBC executives at the time:fallen on hard times, is still entranced with it.

** Special mention also goes to the Whizz Kid, a devoted fan of the Psychic Circus who, even though it's fallen on hard times, is still entranced with it. Considering again how meta this story was, it's easy to realise the Whizz Kid was a stand-in for fans of the show who, even when it was at it's worst, were still watching it.

* In a meta-sense, the ending is one of the most uplifting moments in the show's history, because, like the Psychic Circus, ''Series/DoctorWho'' also survived.

* Related to that, having met a complete stranger who claims to be a LivingLegend from out of the Thal's past, the commander is understandably skeptical of who the Doctor is and what help he can be. But after confronting a (thankfully dead) Dalek and the Doctor warning them of a trap that could have seriously injured one of the crew, the Thal then warmly addresses him as "Doctor" showing that he is willing to trust him, at least.

* The Doctor also tells the Thals to be careful in the way they retell their adventure, so as not to make war sound glorious.

* In episode 2, the Brigadier comes under fire from Dr Lawrence accusing him and the Doctor of wasting their time, with Lawrence asking if the Doctor is even qualified to examine thier nuclear power machinery, prompting the Brigadier to reply that the Doctor is 'qualified' to do just about anything. It's a brief line, but considering how often the two butt heads on matters of things like diplomacy (even in this very serial), it's nice to see the Brig's genuine respect for the Doctor on display.

* The entire scene of Mel departing it pure and genuine heartwarming; she and the Doctor have a genuine goodbye and Mel announces that she's not going home (with the Doctor trusting her to keep Glitz in line, something she'll manage easily enough) and with that, Mel announces that she'll write him a postcard. He notes he has no address for her to send it too - so she uses his own speech about time to announce that she'll "put it in a bottle and throw it into space. It'll reach you... in ''time''. And the Doctor just ''grins.''

** Indeed, all of Jo and Cliff's ShipTease is quite adorable. Unlike some companion departure stories, it's clearly shown that Jo has grown up and become a formidable woman in her own right, one who doesn't need the Doctor anymore. Furthermore, it's obvious that Cliff really does care a lot for her, and she for him.

* The Master seems to be utterly sincere when he says that "the cosmos without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about."
** The Third Doctor returns the favor by referring to him as "my best enemy."

** It's also nice given that, in their last appearance, the insults were a lot more vitriolic. This also nicely reflects how the actors warmed up to each other as well.

* The Doctor’s honest sadness and righteous fury upon seeing the once beautiful planet of Jaconda devastated by the Gastropods. It’s the first sign that while blustering and arrogant Six may be, he’s still The Doctor, and if you’ve done wrong, he WILL make you pay dearly.

** It's also heartwarming because so many later stories show the Time Lords as being decadent, corrupt, and incredibly arrogant. This story, however, has two Time Lords who show themselves to be compassionate and care about the Doctor.
