* On the subject of Mamoru [[BreakHisHeartToSaveHim breaking up with Usagi to protect her]], why didn't Chibi-Usa vanish out of existence, since she's their daughter and all? Is it because they didn't know it yet? I mean, in something like ''Film/BackToTheFuture'', Marty and his siblings vanish piece by piece according to his photograph of themselves when he accidentally gets Lorraine, his future mother, to fall for him instead of George, his future father.

** Luna gives him way more respect before she realizes with whom she is speaking. As for keeping them separate that makes sense tactically. As long as Venus can handle things on her own it's best she keep doing so as that forces the enemy to split their attention and forces.

*** WordofGod says only women can be ''sailor'' senshi. There weren't any non-powered candidates who had starseeds anyway, and Galaxia's backstory has her ripping the true starseeds out of all the senshi of the galaxy. So her not knowing that only senshi (or powered individuals, however you want to put it) had true starseeds doesn't make sense in context of her history.

*** The way that conversation is worded is different in the original Japanese compared to the Viz English dub. Yes, in the Viz dub, Minako asks if Haruka is Michiru's boyfriend, and Michiru says no to that (because Haruka is her girlfriend). However, in the original Japanese, which is what I based my headscratcher off of, the word Minako uses is "koibito", which is a gender-neutral word meaning "lover", so in that case it's not a case of ExactWords involving Haruka actually being a girl.

* About the second half of Super S: I'm aware that the out-of-universe explaination is that it would have made the season much shorter, but what's the in-universe explaination for the Amazoness Quartet to never try to extract the Sailor Senshi Dream Mirrors? Cere Cere actually does this once in one episode, but it seemed that it was more to express her annoyance at Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon than a serious attempt at getting their mirrors. Why did it never occured to them to target the Senshi just to be sure the Golden Mirror wasn't in one of them (and it indeed was)? From the Quartet's point of view, the worst thing that could happen was the Sailor Senshi dodging or them getting regular mirrors.

removed This Troper-isms, and also spoiler tags do not belong on headscratchers pages. General clean up.

** The impression this troper gets after seeing several of these kind of scenes is that nudity in Japanese anime is evidently often used to imply that the specific person has become more than just a mere mortal; that the person has become not only much more powerful, but more of a spirit or energy being than merely physical (basically god-like). In the very final episode, Sailor Moon/Princess Serenity is nude during most of the end of the battle with Sailor Galaxia in order to imply she's virtually become a goddess, much more powerful than Galaxia. However, after seeing the specific scene mentioned in Episode 168, I'd have to agree that Hotaru's instant age-up also had a good deal to do with it...

** This troper would agree with most here. Gigaros would go with Temperance. Winged figure, a sun in the background. I pair Reci with the world. beautiful woman surrounded by a plant motif. Hell Ant herself isn't much of the moon but the symbolism is in the episode. The moon is a card of illusion, Hell Ant attacks in a video game arcade loaded with illusions. Vampeal's pose looks like The Fool. The symbolism after this I'm having trouble picking up. It may be a stretch but maybe Seiren is Judgment, it has a flying angel over the sea, and she can fly as is mermaid based? The other four I'm drawing a blank. The mystery one's horn looks similar to the one at the feet of the high priestess.

*** Senshi cannot just self-resurrect. Sailor Moon can resurrect people, if she isn't defeated herself - and you can't guard her from that if you are, well, dead - and in the anime she can't do so reliably. She managed to pull off a wish on the Silver Crystal without horrible consequences once, but there is no guarantee, that she won't repeat the fate of Queen Serenity the next time (in [=StarS=], dead were returned to life [[spoiler:with Galaxia's help]]).

*** In agreement with that in the manga Chibi Chibi has red hair and yet [[spoiler: is really Sailor Cosmos the future version hiding in the form of her younger self's little sister]], I also recall Chibi Usa using the excuse that she was related to Usagi from her mother's side of the family. *** This Troper only figured two things. One was she once read that since Chibiusa's name means "Little Bunny" that she has red eyes like some rabbits do and the pink hair is loosely based on the front of some rabbits ears being pink. Another was some people associate pink and red or both for the colors of Romantic love(i.e. decorations for Valentine's Day). Maybe Chibiusa's colored hair and eyes are symbols for Usagi's and Mamoru's love for each other.
*** This Troper remembers reading on a few occasions the theory that Chibiusa was born during a total lunar eclipse. Since the Sun's rays behind the moon caused it to have a red ring around it, the newborn Moon Princess received red eyes and pink hair(pink being a tint of red). Some have claimed Word of God on this, for that I have no confirmation.

*** This troper has a weird theory: Chibiusa is actially an albino since it seems to run in the family (not all albinos have red eyes, some have very pale blue or grey if their albinism isn't full) but her parents dye her hair pink via some spell because royalty get "royal white hair" as they come of age and she's still a kid. Besides, pink hair look cute.

*** He's (probably) only five years older in the anime (it's not explicitly stated anywhere, I admit) and in this troper's opinion that's nothing to get paranoid about. By the way, in episode 40 Usagi's father is pretty paranoid about the idea of her dating ''anyone'', so his disapproval probably wasn't anything to do with the age difference.

* In ''Sailor Moon S'', Haruka and Michiru are looking for the Talismans. *** This troper thinks that Sailor Cosmos is actually is an ultimate form of ChibiUsa. This actually makes sense because as we know her mother's reign was peaceful. And then Chaos reappeared. After an ages of fighting, Chibiusa/Sailor Cosmos despairs and flees to the past where she meets Sailor Moon. So in a way they both encourage each other. Sailor Moon defeats Chaos. And Sailor Cosmos returns to her time to defeat Chaos there.

* This troper is just watching now and is almost done with the first season, but found something that just bugs her. In the beginning when Jadeite was trying to get energy to restore their queen, why did he continue to set up operations in Tokyo? Clearly they're going to be stopped by the senshi if they're set there, and there are stupid people they can use outside of Japan. Is there any reason for this other than the fact that Tokyo is the center of the universe?

** They probably were. The big difference in the live-action series is that [[spoiler:Beryl and Metaria didn't destroy the Moon Kingdom; Princess Serenity did that. That makes Beryl more sympathetic by default, and more pragmatic. Takeuchi didn't put that originally because she wipes out most of the villains in the manga for their crimes, even if they showed potential for redemption. ** In the manga, it's made clear near the end that all the arcs' {{Big Bad}}s were powered by one singular entity: [[spoiler:Chaos]]. So Metallia, Wiseman, and all of them (not sure about the anime's Makaiju arc) were either that entity itself, or were "animated by" that entity, and on re-watch you can sort of see its form in the Big Bads sometimes. ** On a sort of related note... I'd be pissed if I was first season Sailor Mercury. Everybody else gets raw power over impressive elements and, were they not [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption doomed to failure]], are more than capable of defeating most threats. Mercury gets... a glorified smoke bomb and an attack that is never shown as anything but completely pathetic if it doesn't combine with something else. She even pretty much flat out states how worthless her powers are in episode 45. While an argument could be made that her intelligence combined with the MagicalComputer makes her a valuable asset, it's downplayed to the point of practically being an InformedAbility. Maybe this is why she tends to get the PossessionSue treatment in fanfiction. While it fails to hold for some of the seasons, their are certain times when it makes sense. Mostly when the monster is a transformed human, so of course only the Healer can save them. At the same time, it suggest she needs them weakened before she can use her attack (especially if it's been newly acquired). Because it's cool to give someone third degree burns and electric shock so long as you make them human at the end.

** This is because some of the Senshi's powers are based off of the names of the planets in Japanese and not just their Myth/ClassicalMythology inspirations. In Japanese, Mercury is "suisei" or "water star/planet" so Sailor Mercury has water/ice powers.

* Why don't any of the MonstersOfTheWeek attack while the Senshi are doing their InTheNameOfTheMoon speeches? They're sitting ducks and they'll be thrown off their game when they can't psych themselves up first.

Worst thing that could happen was the Sailor Senshi dodging or them getting regular mirrors.

* Related to the question of Uranus's and Pluto's powers not really matching the mythological god their planet's named after, why does Sailor Mercury have water-based powers? In ClassicalMythology, Hermes was a god of things like thievery and speed, rather than anything to do with water. The reason the real planet is named Mercury is because its rotation around the sun is so fast. If anything, it'd make more sense for Sailor Mercury to have Sailor Mars's fire powers.

* In episode 177 of the Stars anime, Taiki says that the power of living people are what makes/powers the stars, meant as a rebuttal to Mr. Amanogawa telling a kid that his grandfather is correct in saying that dead people become stars when they die. This always has confused me as to how Taiki thinks this is even possible, and why he didn't just give an actual scientific rebuttal when he's supposed to be the coldly scientific one. Is this supposed to be a Kinmokusei legend about the stars? My only guess is that Taiki has stars (as in the big balls of gas like the Sun) confused with Star Seeds here, since Yaten also refers to someone having their Star Seed stolen as "the light of a star going out".

* In episode 92 in the S anime, why does Michiru tell Usagi and Minako that she and Haruka aren't lovers? Soon before that, she was teasing/scolding Haruka for flirting with them, so why would she want them to keep thinking they had a chance with Haruka? And it can't be out of fear of homophobia because Usagi and Minako thought Haruka was a boy at that point. Was it just one of those things where Michiru was being a "troll" because part of her thinks it's funny when other girls have crushes on Haruka?

* So in the Infinity Arc in the manga, the second half focused mostly on how [[ApocalypseMaiden Saturn's mere presence signaled the end of the world.]] With that comes many fights over [[MoralDilemma whether or not it is right to kill Hotaru and subsequently seal Saturn away forever in order to prevent the destruction of the planet.]] So after the build-up, Saturn eventually awakens, begins to cause destruction, Sailor Moon fortunately unleashed power earlier that would ensure rebirth, and Saturn is reborn as Hotaru as an infant. Okay, that's all good. But why is it that in the next arc, when the Senshi gain new powers, no one is concerned that Saturn is present once more? Yes, she did tell the Outer Senshi "we're different now" and that their mission has changed, but they seem to take her word a little too well given the dramatic buildup from before.

* In episode 37 of season 1 of the original series, it is revealed that Artemis was actually the person Luna has been talking to through the video arcade the whole time. This brings up two major questions. First of all, why did he keep this a secret? What reason did he have to hide his identity from her? Second, if he knew about Luna, Usagi, and the rest of her team this whole time, why did he wait so long to introduce sailor Venus to them? What was the point of keeping them apart?

* In the first anime, what happens to Professor Tomoe after Setsuna comes to take Hotaru from him? We know he dies in the manga & Crystal, so there's no issue there with the other three Outers raising Hotaru. But in the first anime Hotaru's dad survives the S season, and looks perfectly fine and healthy when we see him in the first scene of Stars. Yet we're supposed to assume that he handed his infant daughter over to a strange (to him) woman with no hesitation or complaint?

** They're court floozies, Beryl likely kept them around [[HufflepuffHouse to fill up space]] and have someones to order around and intimidate. My guess is that [[DeadlyDecadentCourt other than politicking]] and being eye candy[[note]]well, [[FaceFramedInShadow completely obscured eye candy]][[/note]] they have little real combat skill or power, and those that do/did were already used and killed as the MonsterOfTheWeek. So by the end of the series they'd have only been good as a ZergRush of questionable quality against moon crystal armed Usagi. Plus Beryl likely didn't want to use them that way in favor of personally and privately tormenting Usagi with Brainwashed!Endymon.

** Mind the above applies to the anime only. In the manga, the earth-shattering event happens when Usagi is fifteen and Chaos compels Galaxia to destroy every planet. She ends up creating Crystal Tokyo after sacrificing herself to purify the Star Cauldron. It simply could be that Usagi was unable to revive all the ordinary humans; her power has limits. Alternatively, she ''did'' revive her parents and little brother along with the humans but they needed some time to process that their daughter was lying to them about being the Senshi and having a double wife, so they didn't attend her wedding. Or they did but were hanging in the back. Shingo was probably weirded out since he idolizes Sailor Moon and was trying to figure out how he missed his own sister being his hero]].

** From what I remember, it was split into the Rainbow Crystals at the same time as Queen Serenity sent everyone to be reincarnated on Earth, since the seven powerful monsters were also reborn on Earth (six of them as humans and one as a cat). So my guess is that either the monsters were trapped earlier on and then it got split into the 7 pieces (one for each monster) or else they were trapped during the big battle that ended with Queen Serenity sending everyone to be reincarnated.

** Simply put, their mission is to protect from threats that originate from outside the Sol System. The villains from the first, second, and fourth arcs came from within our own solar system, the villains from the third and fifth came from outside it. It either didn't trigger their supernatural awareness, or they otherwise considered it not their duty to deal with.

** I think the original intention based on the manga is the youma were the reborn human foot soldiers, as punishment they were reborn as monsters. Through their powera they also know how to convert humans to a youma form. The anime-only shadow warriors were always shadow people like Metallia. They were supposed to be reborn as youma too but the presense of the rainbow crystals gave them a human side too. The only real flaw in this logic is why would a shadow person be given the same punishment a human was? They were already monsters. You would think removing a crystal would return them to being their old monster form given the senshi and the generals all look the same. Design-wise they look cool and all, but internally it doesn't exactly flow as well. In some cases Queen Serenity probably made them better at fighting than their original forms in doing so.
** We can probably add in this theory, the shadowy courtiers were the people who backed the war but didn't actually fight it. And Thetis and the D&D Girls were likely the stronger human soldiers, stronger than the general youma but weaker than the shadow warriors. The only downside of their theory is it nakes the Dark Kingdom look a bit small to be waging a war.

to:

** They probably were. The big difference in the live-action series is that [[spoiler:Beryl and Metaria didn't destroy the Moon Kingdom; Princess Serenity did that. That makes Beryl more sympathetic by default, and more pragmatic. Beryl wanted to make sure the past would not repeat itself and that she could save Endymion this time in the live-action series, and she redeemed herself by not killing ''any'' of the Shittenou. Likewise, she faces her death with dignity when the Senshi fail to stop Serenity's Princess Sailor Moon form from destroying the planet]]. Takeuchi didn't put that originally because she wipes out most of the villains in the manga for their crimes, even if they showed potential for redemption. Likewise, the live-action screenwriters were cramming about five seasons' worth of plot into one and decided to streamline it.

** It's likely that every victim ends up with repressing memories, which is a very likely thing to do for people who experience traumatizing events, or simply think it was a weird dream. After all, these guys say something weird, then they suddenly summon a curtain and they change into rather fantastic circus clothes within seconds, then summon a human sized slab and restrain them to it. It's not unlikely to think that they simply convince themselves it was a very, ''very'' weird dream coming about from worrying about things or overworking.
