** This is a little bit of WMG, but since The Master of The Hellish Yard looks very smug when making that offer, I think Gallerian's screwed either way, but maybe if he had accepted to give up his fortune he would have been Gear instead of the Soul of Adam (Considering how all Awakened Vessels do the exact opposite of their sins).
*** Yes she does look very smug, her creepy grin almost puts Marlon's faces to shame. It is likely Marlon is screwed either way, although if Heartbeat Clocktower is anything to go by, the sin has been half-purified already before Gear makes his sacrifice- remember, Gear muses why Marlon didn't realize greed would only bring ruin to him and his beloved doll BEFORE the house was burnt and the doll got an ugly injury thanks to that right in the beginning. It's only later, after noting how the doll was the thing Marlon cared the most about, that Gear decides to make his sacrifice to save her and fulfil his job of keeping the gogwheels/gears of the cinema/theater's clocktower going on.
