** It's a moot point after the events of ''X'', but perhaps Scorpion was just happy to know Bi-Han was suffering. Or perhaps once Scorpion gave into vengeance, Quan Chi owned him lock, stock and barrel (it would explain why Quan is so eager to push Hanzo in that direction).

* Why don't the Elder Gods allow Armageddon? Why try to prevent it? Armageddon is supposed to destroy the Realms aka the One Being. The Elder Gods have made it clear their are indifferent to the realms unless a direct threat to them arises. If Armegeddon destroys the realms than their is no more One Being and no more threat to them. So why take steps to prevent it?

* Okay. Bo'Rai Cho is a pretty good fighter... but he didn't fight for Earth in the first game's tournament. Oh, it's explained that he's an Outworlder, so his victory wouldn't count as a win for Earthrealm. That explains it. Except.. no. Shang Tsung is an Earthrealmer. His victory wouldn't have counted for Shao Kahn under those rules, right?

** "Gods" often have nebulous parameters in fiction. I see Raiden and the other guardian gods as being powerful, but not insurmountably so. Shao Kahn defeated Raiden on several occasions, Liu Kang [spoiler: and the Cages]] were able to defeat Shinnok, and Sub-Zero defeated the elemental guardians. Being a god probably gives you a leg up over most opponents, but a sufficiently skilled or empowered fighter could still take one down.

*** At that, they only really did anything because Shao Kahn WON by cheating. That was sort of the point of Raiden's message to the past, beating Shao Kahn more or less led directly to the events of the following four games, in which more death and destruction was caused by the bad guy of the week circumventing the tournament as opposed to letting the Elder Gods enforce the rules.

** Much as I hate to cite ''Film/MortalKombatAnnhilation'' for ''anything'', the one really good plot point in the film is that, when Shao Kahn accepts Liu Kang's challenge to Mortal Kombat to fight for the fate of Earth, Kahn loses his godly immortality, as it would be [[{{Understatement rather an unfair advantage in a fight to the death.]] Perhaps, when Raiden actually participates in a tournament (instead of just coaching from the sidelines), he's BroughtDownToBadass. The rest of the time, he's beholden to the byzantine rules that govern conduct between realms, so while he might be metaphysically capable of snapping his fingers and permanently sealing all portals to Earthrealm, the rules don't allow it.

Mileena asserting that she's Shao Kahn's daughter, and thus Mileena's sister, is probably a lot better for her self-esteem than admitting she's Shao Kahn's living weapon. * Why is everyone in MortalKombat vs DCUniverse besides Lex Luthor and Batman holding the IdiotBall like it was their best friend? I can understand [[UnstoppableRage the rage]] tends to make everyone homicidal at exactly the wrong moment, but what about the parts where someone could just explain the situation without overaggression (such as Batman & Raiden), or even look at the clues that their "enemies" were obviously suffering the same effects they were (nearly every other scene), I'm sure someone should've figured out that the destruction of both universes was bad for the people they think are causing it.

* What's with non-MK characters appearing in the post-2010 games? You can play as DC characters, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, Alien, Leatherface, and Predator. What happened to the good old days where it was just Mortal Kombat characters? They don't need fancy gimmicks and horror villains to make money. The franchise was fine by itself.

** The thing about it being non-lethal is likely a nod to him being a Shaolin monk (despite him not looking the part, but that's another story). But it may be potentially lethal as, from what can be seen, it's not necessarily the blow that kills the opponent; you see how that uppercut launches the opponent high in the air? They may have broken a few good ribs when they hit the ground. It's NotTheFallThatKillsYou after all.

** This Troper is starting to suspect that it's not that the Elder Gods refuse to do anything so much as they can't do anything unless the rules are broken. Remember, the realms and the people in them are dreams of the One Being, not their own creations (which should also explain why they don't care about the people in them or individual realms, they're not actually real to the Elder Gods)so while they get to set the rules reality itself may be co0nfinign them soley to the letter of those rules.

* How powerful is Raiden or other gods like Fuijin for that matter? Some of the expanded universe material has stated or implied their are virtually untouchable to mortals, sorcerers or even the likes of Shao Kahn as long as they are in their home realms. Even outside they are still pretty powerful. Didn't Raiden protect the souls of the Chosen from Shao Kahn outright stealin them in MK3? In some endings Raiden destroyed all of Earth or the dimensional gates. Other times they are as weak as mortals. Is it a case of the Elder Gods limiting them by forcing them to take mortal form? Could Raiden solve most of the problems in the series if the Elder Gods were not limiting him?
* If present day Kung Lao is apparently the reincarnation of the Great Kung Lao, then how could he be resurrected if Shang Tsung stole his soul upon the Great Kung Lao's defeat in the Shaolin Tournament? And how come the Great Kung Lao's soul was released upon Shang Tsung's death during Raiden's attempt to destroy the Dragon King, when Kung Lao was quite clearly born before hand? It doesn't add up.

** Well, Raiden's bio in the very first game outright states that he took on a mortal form to compete on the tournament. In that form, a god may be able to retain his powers, but not to their full extent. Plus, being in Outworld is another severe limiter of Raiden's power (using him as an example), maybe because of the incompatibility of the realms; only the Elder Gods could keep their powers across realms, given their pan-dimensional jurisdiction.

It doesn't add up.up.
** I'm sure they didn't think of that before writing his ''MK9'' ending. Originally, Kung Lao was only a descendant of the Great Kung Lao, which would've made sense.

** Shang Tsung wanted to isolate Sonya both to get away from Raiden (who cannot enter Outworld) and to essentially cheat. Either Sonya accepts and he kicks her ass, or she refuses and he, with no witnesses, can pretend that he won and Shao Kahn is free to invade Earthrealm at will, something Kitana sees through and warns him is treason. The important aspect of his deal with Cage is not that he is allowed to challenge someone- as Raiden said, as an ex-Champion he could do so at any time- but that this chalenge would be "the final battle of the tournament", winner take all. The problem is, the rules state that while that is fine, the opponent has to accept, a rule that Sonya did no know which is one reason he picked her. The other, of course, is that Liu Kang is The Chosen One and Tsung just plain didn't want to fight him for that very reason, though he ultimately accepted Kang's challenge because e was backed into a corner and, frankly, by that point seemed a little pissed off. Finaly he was panicking- Goro had just been killed, Tsung was about to fail Shao Kahn ''again'', and so faking Sonya's defeat was sort of a desperate gamble to avoid his Emperor's wrath.

Elder gods doing nothing

Added DiffLines:

***Thing is often when someone does becomes a threat they refuse to do anything or barely do act. Onaga and Shao Kahn merging realms into Outworld increased their power and threatened to awaken the One Being. They do nothing as Shao Kahn breaks the rules of Mortal Kombat in the first timeline. This would only encourage would-be conquerors to skip the tedious process of Mortal Kombat and invade directly with massive armies. In the second timeline he grows powerful enough to nearly overthrow them before they act. They ignore the Netherrealm and Shinnok frees himself and nearly destroys them. Shang Tsung and Quan Chi open a portal to heaven threatening to destabilize the afterlife and eventually all realms and they do nothing. Onaga is resurrected and threatens to return the One Being. All they do is appoint Scorpion as their champion and screw him over. Armageddon is at their doorstep and they tell Argus to deal with it. A bunch of guys killing each other in a single realm is below their radar. But their continue refusal to take serious action against direct threats to their existence is just plain laziness on their part.
