** It's possible reviving him as a monster was just a consequence of Marie's spell. If she were able to resurrect him "normally," then I assume she'd have done exactly that at another time so they could reunite.

** YMMV whether it’s bad writing or not, but to me the implication of [[spoiler: Papa Legba’s deal with Marie Laveau]] involving [[spoiler: her sacrificing one innocent soul (a baby) a year]] involved corrupting her by taking advantage of her already dark urges. Meanwhile, Fiona has been indulging the same urges (and worse even) for years, therefore she has already been corrupted and lost her “soul.” Perhaps in this circumstance, (especially given latter seasons demonstrating that one does not necessarily need be totally “good” to reach their personal heavens,) the soul in question isn’t a corporeal thing that Legba could take, instead making his deals to influence them down the path to corruption.
