* The drastic personality changes Dora in "QuestionableContent" underwent during her relationship with Marten used to aggravate me, seeing as she went from being sassy and confident to insecure, clingy and almost manipulative at times. Then I realized that she had always shown hints of insecurity and indecisiveness in her personality, but it only started to show when she got to know Marten better, and trusted him enough to let her imperfections and faults become apparent.

* In ''{{Homestuck}}'', two of the exiles, AR and WV, give WQ (the former White Queen) a makeshift crown. She turns it down and instead gives it to PM. I never really understood ''why'' until recently, however. PM went all the way to Derse (the city of the Dark kingdom), into the throne room itself, and ''survived'' to complete her task. The entire conflict between the Light and Dark kingdoms has been described with ChessMotifs, so of course, by completing her assigned duty, PM was [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_promotion promoted into a queen.]] AwesomeMomentOfCrowning ''indeed.'' - Tropers/SweetMadness
** Also from ''{{Homestuck}}'', at first I was bothered by the slowness of act 1, and at the utter pointlessness and unneeded silliness of some of the actions Andrew chose to accept - seriously, did John NEED to wear that disguise for no reason? - but then I realized that, as of the beginning of Homestuck, ProblemSleuth had just wrapped up. Forum members submitting pointless, silly things was the entire ''point'' of Problem Sleuth, and the plot was more-or-less up to them. They were just doing what they were used to, and it was what Andrew had to work with. The first act was a needed transition, from the random wackiness of Problem Sleuth to the actual storyline of ''Homestuck''. Once the forum members got the picture that, yes, there were aspects of the story they had no control over, they eased into a faster-paced, more Hussie-driven format, and the series quickly GrewTheBeard.
*** Also, Andrew just stopped accepting command suggestions at some point between Acts 3 and 4.
** Another thing: At first, [[DaionusThe23rd I]] just assumed that Jade being a ParodySue was just a silly, pointless, joke. Eventually, I noticed that she looked like a female version of John. I ignored this. Eventually, it hit me: Jade's status was in strict contrast to John being the epitome of ThisLoserIsYou. Jade looking like a female John further shows how she is the exact opposite of John.
** When Karkat was explaining Troll Romance to Vriska in [[Homestuck]] he told her that Tavros could never hate her the way she hated him because there was something dysfunctional about him that kept him from developing the same degree of hate as everyone else. When Hussie introduced Kanaya, one of the other 'nice' trolls, he repeated a comment from Tavros's introduction about not sleeping much. Suddenly it became clear why Kanaya and Tavros are so nice compared to other trolls: All trolls suffer from psychotic nightmares so bad that they have to sleep in psychoactive goop in order to dull the edge. But Tavros, who can't fit in his cocoon because of his freakish horns, and Kanaya, who stays up late because she's the troll equivalent of a Goth, have minimized their exposure.
*** Given that we've recently learned that Karkat, and probably the rest of the Trolls, ''can't sleep'' [[spoiler: their dream-selves dying may have made them all insomniacs. And if that's the case, Tavros and Kanaya don't just have minimized exposure - they've also got more experience dealing with sleep deprivation.]] Doubles as FridgeHorror if you think about it too long. - Volouscheur
** Karkat is the Cancer troll, and is always in a [[IncrediblyLamePun crabby mood]].
** ... so I just reread [[http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=002704 this page]] ... [[spoiler:after the Reckoning event, where you learn that John wasn't exactly ''born''.]]

** I realized that Elan's father Tarquin and Tarquin's buddy Mallack are counterparts to Xykon and Redcloack. In both groups, the first is a goofy EvilOverlord and the second is their LawfulEvil cleric partner who tends to facepalm at their goofiness. This kind of makes me think that Rich expected Tarquin and Mallack to get the DracoInLeatherPants treatment and was doing a deliberate BaitTheDog. With Tarquin and Mallack, it's like he took Xykon and Redcloak and filled them with likable traits.

** So Elan and Nale are meant to be evil twin counterparts - Elan's a Bard, while Nale's a fighter/rogue/sorceror hybrid, (basically a less optimized bard). So far so good. Nale's specialises in Enchantment, mind-control spells, which bards can also cast, but don't rely on exclusively. Then I realised - apart from the healing spells he's picked up since leaving the Azure Fleet behind, almost all Elan's spells come from the other school bards rely heavily on - Illusion, and suddenly the 'Evil opposites' aspect of Elan & Nale's relationship gets deeper. - Astaroth

**** You may think that [[spoiler:White Mage]] defeating the Final Boss [[spoiler:Chaos himself posessing Sarda's Body]] is anti-climatic, but it actually makes the most thematic sense of any possible conclusion. Afterall, White Mage is the real creator of the entire 8-Bit Theater...although accidentally. Naturally, she'll be the best one to take down the inevitable entropic of it also. Ironically, it also makes a humerous tie-over to Dissidia Final Fantasy, since the core theme of that game is Cosmos against Chaos. Or more simply a Female Creator Goddess VS a Male Destroyer God.

** Troll romance is complicated and has four facets that command the same emotional involvement and drives as simple, pedestrian human romance. But only half of it has anything to do with sex at all. The other half involves keeping people in line; either a dangerously unstable troll finding someone to keep them in check, or two individuals in a nasty feud finding a third to mediate a truce. Yes, fully half of troll romance involves keeping trolls from going crazy and killing each other, implying that trolls are so screwed up in the head that this is just as important to the survival of the species as freaking REPRODUCTION.

** It seems rather uncanny how spot-on Reynardine's snap judgements of Jeanne and Diego turn out to be, considering he only had their portraits to go by. And it had to be ''only'' by their portraits, since as we know Rey [[MagicAIsMagicA cannot lie to Annie]]. But look closely- At no point during that scene does Rey claim to have no prior knowledge of Jeanne and Diego! [[EpilepticTrees Dun Dun DUNNN!]].
** I never really got the inclusion of Brinnie and the Valkyries in GunnerkriggCourt. Then one day it hit me: the Valkyries take the souls of warriors to Valhalla; they are Psychopomps!

EGS magic

Added DiffLines:

** Another EGS one. On my first read-through, years ago, [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-04-09 This strip]] seemed like just a silly throwaway joke. In the intervening time, the comic has changed a lot, and several characters have gained explicit magical powers, the nature of which is determined by their actions and personalities, abilities usually awakened or enhanced by random strange events (such as getting turned into a girl, or slaying an [[OurVampiresAreDifferent almost-vampire]], or saving a lover from a deranged mage). The training at the Anime-Style Martial Arts Dojo actually helped two of them unlock that power. All by "participating in difficult, overly complex, and fairly ridiculous activities that shouldn't yield such fantastic results yet somehow do." What looked like LampshadeHanging on RuleOfFunny now turns out to be epic foreshadowing of how the EGS magic system works, before the comic was even revealed to HAVE a magic system! --phantomreader42
