This might also explain the question as to why he's trying so hard to convince Superman of humanity's worthlessness in the face of Dr. Manhattan's (alleged) plans to destroy the universe (which raises the question of "since they're going to be unpersoned anyway, why bother?") -- he's pulling out all the stops to entice Superman to come with him to Bliss so as to prevent a replay of the fate of the Kryptonian race when they shot down Jor-Els evacuation plans.]]
