* The Extra Mode ending in ''[=RayStorm=]''. You've destroyed the Juda Central System and doomed Secilia to plunge into a nearby gas giant, with your actions having already killed 70% of the planet's 7 billion people. It is quite possible that there were dissenters on that moon colony who objected to the war or even were on ''your'' side. Also, Secilia is established to not be the only colony out there. The Earth fleet may have just given the rest of the colonies a very damning ''casus belli'' to avenge Secilia.

** Extra mode's ending in Extra mode is basically RealityEnsues applied to the original ending of the game. Your ship still makes it out in a decent fashion though its chances of returning home are uncertain.

*** Remember that the Secilian Federation have utterly defeated Earth Forces and have dispatched fleets of capital spacecrafts to literally blow up Earth, to which for the 13 prototype fighter spacecrafts (built from a secret location on Earth), defending the planet from the annihilators might be too much a task. So they might have been given orders to slip through the invading fleet, cut off its head (Hannibal) in hopes to buy Earth more time, and finally infiltrate and destroy Secilia's core.
*** The DownerEnding is averted in the "Arcade mode" where the R-GRAY squadron manage to escape from the doomed colony, and flies through the debris of the Third Fleet, and finally towards some escort spacecrafts (or what might have been the Third Fleet's backup, whom upon receiving the news of Secilia's demise, might have ceased hostilities) with a fully intact Earth behind them. Also, if one observe carefully the beginning of Stage 1: in the Arcade Mode, the R-GRAY squadron have begun sortie by early noon, while in Extra Mode, they launched by late afternoon/sunset. Hence, this might be also a case of ForWantofaNail between the two gameplay modes.

** Why the DownerEnding for 13-Ship Mode? If the fact that ship #13 is the weaker-than-all-the-preceding-ships prototype is anything to go by, you ''[[IdiotBall sent ALL your R-Grays off-Earth--leaving no-one able to stave off other Secelian fleets!]]'' You didn't think Hannibal was their ''only'' planet-killer, did you?! On the [[GeniusBonus]] side, this reflects the late Roman Empire's bad habit of sending the ''vast'' majority of their armies to protect/expand the frontiers, with only a skeleton army protecting Rome itself. Something people like Alaric (a former mercenary for Rome, so he already had a sense of how the military roads and the defenses of Rome proper were set up) took excellent advantage of.

* In the North American version of the [=PS1=] port of ''[=RayStorm=]'', changing any stage's difficulty to below the default triggers Training Mode, which [[EasyModeMockery locks you out of the last 4 stages]]. This happens even if you lower the difficulty on stages 5-8, thereby rendering the easy half of their difficulty sliders completely pointless.

** The fifth stage, the staging area for the Secelian fleets on the Secelia/Seraphim side of the gate, is called Carthage. The boss is named Genseric. In real life, it was Genseric who led the Vandals to conquer northern Africa--and make Carthage their capital. Carthage is also presumably where the 3rd Fleet was sent off from. The flagship is called Hannibal.

*In ''[=RayStorm=]'':
** The first boss is named Pendragon. It's named after the guy that successfully drove Rome out of England, and you face it in Albion, a location in England.
** The boss of the second level "Old Gaul City" is named Vercingetorix. Vercingetorix is the name of of a warlord from Gaul who attacked the Roman Empire.
** The boss of the third level "Palmyra Valley", Zenobia, is named after the queen of Palmyra.
