** The scene in the first episode where Winter is badgering Oz with questions about who his "real" mom takes on a completely different light after TheReveal that [[spoiler: Ivy is in the cult and sent the cult to terrorize Ally into insanity because she was spiteful over Ally being Oz's birth mother and wants full custody of Oz.]]
** In [[UnreliableNarrator Kai's stories of past cults and their demises,]] every single one of the cult leaders--[[spoiler:as well as ''Jesus Christ Himself'']]--are also played by Evan Peters. Of course a delusional narcissist like Kai would envision himself as these "great men." Alternatively, it also would make sense if Kai's ''followers'' were imaging Kai as these cult leaders, given how they idolize him way beyond reason.

I really feel like this meta is actually kind of a stretch and belongs in YMMV under Squick or No Yay rather than the Fridge page. Kai and Winter's relationship has abusive elements, but IMO there are more indicators that he didn't groom her (her reaction to his suggestion that they have a baby, her being perfectly able to have relationships with people besides him, her generally being comfortable around him except when he's unstable, and her insistence that he'd never hurt her and trusting him enough to tell him she wanted to leave) than there are indicators that he did.

** Kai's relationship with Winter is definitely at least emotionally incestuous, and given both the fact that he's borderline abusive to and very controlling and manipulative of her (with Winter outright stating that he terrifies her more than anything) and that he's stated that he's been [[StalkerWithACrush watching her since she was brought home as a baby,]] (including listening to her [[ADateWithRosiePalms masturbate by humping a pillow every night at 15]]), it's possible that Winter spent her whole life being more or less groomed by her brother. The realization that he's probably at least seven years older than her (he is 30 at the time of the events of Cult, while she's a college student) and would have been in [[{{Squick}} his early 20s when she was 15]] [[UpToEleven makes this even worse]].

these read to me as basic text/subtext analysis, not really fridge anything

*** Also, his [[spoiler: murdering of Winter]] is rife with subtext as he literally throws her to the ground, gets on top of her, and [[spoiler: chokes her to death.]] The IncestSubtext between them ends up coming to a head in the most nightmarish, {{Squick}} way: it looks disturbingly like a rape scene.
*** For added {{squick}}y [[IncestSubtext subtext,]] Detective Jack Samuels- whom Kai plans to have sex with while he, Samuels, impregnates Winter- has bleached white hair, very similar to how Winter’s hair is dyed a silver gray.

** Twisty's name, appearance, and history as a serial killer are frequent references in-universe, but Twisty died in obscurity, with seemingly nobody able to tie him by name to his killings but the freaks from season four. Even the survivors we see who escaped Twisty would have had no idea what his name was.

*** They did say that they were killing the women to teach them a lesson about how their relationships with men would kill them. Possibly they left the men alive to underline that message (in their minds) being sent to the women - if you hook up with men, the men may survive but you will not - and help build the "feminine rage" they were obsessed with unleashing onto men. They did let two men into SCUM, so they're not above letting men live if they think it serves their purpose.
