** House Manderly. As a Seven-worshiping Andal (not to mention managing a shipping and trading empire as the head of the only city in the North) Wyman could be seen as representing the "new," at least relative to Roose Bolton, who not only is a First Man who worships the old gods, but who practices some customs such as the right of first night and flayings that have fallen out of favor elsewhere, though Roose cares little for the ancient tradition of guest right. The Boltons are an old Northern House who have often rebelled against the Starks [[spoiler:and end up displacing them as rulers of the North, taking control by one of them marrying a fake Stark.]] The Manderlys are relatively new to the North but are very loyal to the Starks and trying to return them to rule the North. The Manderlys also tried to become the rulers of another Kingdom, the Reach, when a Gardner King died without sons and one of his daughters was married to Lord Manderly, the Manderlys were eventually driven out of the Reach as they threatened the Gardeners, but settled in the North.

** Rhaegar Targaryen. Both are [[WarriorPrince Warrior Princes]] widely thought of as TheAce and BigGood, with a HundredPercentAdorationRating, and are in-universe [[MemeticBadass Memetic Badasses]]. After their deaths, former supporters remain deeply devoted to their memories, and [[spoiler:plot to put their heirs (Aegon VI and Rickon Stark) on the throne]]. Both are entirely shown to us from others' perspectives, Robb being one of the only Starks who is not a viewpoint character, and Rhaegar being one of the most notable [[PosthumousCharacter Posthumous Characters]], leaving them subject to a lot of AlternateCharacterInterpretation. Both are also brothers to two characters often speculated to be TheChosenOne (see Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, below.)

** Daenerys Targaryen. Sansa is what would have happened to Daenerys if she didn't have had the mechanisms to fight back and and if she weren't surrounded by prophecy. It's fair to point out that Dany greatly relied in the charity of others to survive up to the events of AGOT and these same people might be pushing these gifts for her to fulfill said prophecy. While Sansa is largely a political pawn, Dany has several people on her back trying to make her an ideological pawn. Both see themselves as dissatisfied with their aspirations once they fulfill them: Sansa has dreamt of a courtly, glamorous life; Dany was told all her life she is a natural-born leader who is meant to rule -- but once they come to realize these aspirations, they both find out that the reality of their aspirations is far more crushing, dangerous and difficult than either of them could know. Both are very attractive but have found little advantage to it. Both have been separated from their families. Sansa has four brothers who love her while Daenerys' own brother uses her as a pawn and treats her poorly. [[spoiler: In more recent events, both Sansa and Daenerys are trying to shed their personae and become more pragmatic... only that Dany has dragons and hasn't used them fully.]]

** Jaime Lannister. Both are Lord Commanders of the white and black brotherhoods, which they joined at a young age for the sake of honour and duty as the WideEyedIdealist, and both came from highborn upbringings. During their respective journeys, they are left disappointed when they find out that the brotherhood they joined was no longer as great as they expected and once were. Jaime is long reviled as a kingslayer when he kills the Mad King to save an entire city of innocent people from aforementioned king wanting to burn them all, while a group of the Night's Watch believe Jon to be an oathbreaker due to his sympathy for the wildlings (who Jon sees as men, women and children regardless of where they come from -- in contrast to the views of many in the Night's Watch) when he goes against tradition to do what's right and protect innocent people in his efforts to save everyone.

** Ramsay Snow. Both are the bastard sons of powerful Northern lords. ** Robert Baratheon. Both are extremely bloodlusty, both like fucking everything that moves, both are charismatic legends who overshadow a younger, more principled sibling, both like drinking and they both father several bastards they don't care about. Robert said that he always wanted to let the throne go and go across the world as a 'sellsword king', fighting, drinking and fornicating. Sounds a lot like what Euron's been doing for several years. All that said though, while Robert had his dark side he never had anywhere near the level of sociopathic cruelty Euron possesses. They are both TheCharmer, good at rallying men to their cause, but with Euron it seems to be a more sociopathic way of manipulation.

** Renly Baratheon. They are the more famous, colorful and magnetic brothers who rally great armies to their cause and usurp crowns from cold, hard, unglamorous military men. They contrast in that Renly is a younger brother whose quest to ignore the laws of succession and become king over Stannis is fully supported by the a large number of Lords, and Euron is the older brother as well as the unpopular vote and has to convince The Iron Islands to make him king over his more traditional brother, Victarion. Where Renly hoped to prevail over his brother and become king through battle, Euron needed only words to sway the Ironborn to his side. And while Renly is a flashy man who has pretensions of being a Warrior Prince despite never seeing any actual fighting, Euron is a flashy man who really is a Warrior Prince as well as an Omnicidal Maniac known for his battle prowess, his devious mind, and the brutal tactics he employs. While Renly is quite willing to kill his older brother in battle because of them opposing his weaker claim, Euron probably murdered his older brother with an assassin, making it look like an accident.

Both see themselves as dissatisfied with their aspirations once they fulfill them: Sansa was dreamt of a courtly, glamorous life; Dany was told all her life she is a natural-born leader who is meant to rule -- only for them both to find out that the reality of their aspirations is far more crushing, dangerous and difficult than either of them realized. While Jon Snow faces societal prejudice for being an illegitimate child who does not even know the identity of his mother, he is loved by his father, siblings, and uncle, and raised alongside his siblings by his father alongside his siblings. In contrast, Ned Stark. Theon -- though he is heir to the Iron Islands -- is sent away to another family as a hostage at age 10, raised by another family away from his own family, and his father treats him poorly.poorly. Theon has his family's name, Greyjoy, but is a Greyjoy son raised as a ward among all of Ned Stark's children to keep his father Baelon Greyjoy from rebelling again. Both Jon and Theon share very close relationships with Robb, Jon's half-brother and Theon's surrogate brother. ** Daenerys Targaryen. Sansa is what would have happened to Daenerys if she didn't have had the mechanisms to fight back and see for herself or weren't surrounded by prophecy. It's fair to point out that Dany greatly relied in the charity of others to survive up to the events of AGOT and the same people might be pushing these gifts for her to fulfill said prophecy; while Sansa is largely a political pawn, Dany has several people on her back trying to make her an ideological pawn. Both see themselves as dissatisfied with their offices once they come into them: Sansa was given lifelong promises of courtly, glamorous life; Dany was told all her life she is a natural-born leader; neither of them are or did get any of those things. Both are among the most beautiful women alive, but have found little advantage to it. Both have had their family removed from them. [[spoiler: In more recent events, they both are trying to shed their personae and become more pragmatic... only that Dany has dragons and hasn't used them.]]

** Daenerys Targaryen. Both are highborn girls fallen on hard times who has lost most of their families and have spent much time living in squalor in a foreign land. Their quests also involve the supernatural and the pursuit of justice. Unlike Daenerys though, Arya doesn't blindly judge people; she understands that being part of a group doesn't make someone like the rest. Daenerys orders the crucifixion of 163 slavers, not wanting to think there might be good people among them, because being a slaver makes someone evil by default. Arya chooses not to include the Freys on her list because she doesn't know the names of the ones involved.
** Varys. From great information-gathering abilities to [[spoiler: mummering]] Arya is becoming more like him every page, yet the two have never had an interaction together. In a way, this mirrors Sansa and Littlefinger's lessons, except Littlefinger is feeding Sansa with his teachings, Arya's teacher has been life.

** Jaime Lannister. Both are Lord Commanders of the white and black brotherhoods, which they joined at a young age for the sake of honour and duty as the WideEyedIdealist, and both came from highborn upbringings by their fathers.

** House Lannister. There are few better comparisons between TheHero and one candidate of the BigBad in BigBadEnsemble. Both are ancient and powerful Houses with good militaries. Both were once kings whom were reduced to liege lord by Targaryens. House Stark rules GrimUpNorth with fewer resources, House Lannister rules a warmer land with many more natural resources. Both are concerned with honor but the Starks' stem from doing what's right, just, or both, while the Lannisters' stem from self-interest and arrogance. Starks have an HonorBeforeReason attitude see [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatResponsibility ruling as duty]], Lannisters see ruling more as [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatPerks their right.]] Male Starks wear utilitarian gear most of the time, male Lannisters wear extravagant clothes even while [[BlingOfWar going to battle]]. Lannisters play the Game of Thrones and hone their skills to win it while Starks detest this game because of said HonorBeforeReason and definitely lose big time if trying to play it. Lannisters [[BigScrewedUpFamily are a big family but don't have the best relationships]] (with the exception of the relationship between Tyrion and Jaime). Starks are a smaller but loving family (except for Catelyn's cold treatment of Jon Snow, but Jon is loved by the rest of the family). Starks have primarily descended from the First Men while Lannisters, like other southerners, are now mostly descended from the Andals.
