* NiceToTheWaiter: Tommy is friends with most of the workers ([[JerkassToOne except R.T.]]) at the Callahan Auto Parts plant, having spent time working alongside them at the assembly line. After he graduated, he expected to keep working at the line and was surprised when his father promoted him to a junior executive position, instead.

** Ironically they would spend a significant portion of the flight over Lake Erie and later Lake Michigan.

* TheMountainsOfIllinois: While disguised as a flight attendant, Richard comments that the odds of a water landing are low, he's betting if they crash into anything, it'll be a mountain. Unless they have a very unusual flight plan, they shouldn't be passing any mountains going from Sandusky, Ohio, to Chicago, Illinois.

Then we discover that her husband is also an executive and in the same room, and she has spent all of the decades since he saw a prostitute when he was off in "the war" (maybe World War 2, which was almost 60 years at the time the film released) [[OnceDoneNeverForgotten constantly pestering him about it]].

* LameComeback: Two instances with Tommy, who's not quite smart enough to win a snark battle with Richard:
** First when Tommy's [=M&Ms=] fall into the inside of Richard's car, Tommy tries to reassure him that the car will be fine as the candies have a thin candy shell. Richard retorts Tommy's brain has a thick candy shell. Tommy tries to counter that Richard's brain has the shell on it. Richard mocks him for his comeback, only to Tommy to tell him to shut up.
** The second is after they ran over the deer and stuffed it into the car. Tommy and Richard try to figure out what to do with the seemingly dead animal. Richard suggests they take it to the vet. Tommy mocks Richard for that, only to be told by Richard he'll take Tommy to the vet. To which Tommy responds "I'll take you to the...", not even coming up with a finish to the response before Richard mocks him yet again.

Added DiffLines:

* NoYou: At the gas station, Richard makes Tommy fill the car with gas while he asks for directions for their next "huge embarrassing failure" (after Tommy's sale pitch angered the client). Tommy says under his breath Richard is a huge embarrassing failure".

** An especially poignant one for Tommy is during the first board meeting after Big Tom's death, when Tommy is willing to sacrifice everything he has and go on a business trip that he KNOWS he has no experience handling in order to save the company. He may not be intellectual, but his heart is clearly in the right place when the time comes.

After botching the sale, the deer wakes up and tears the car apart trying to get out before running off into the woods, unharmed. While this may seem like an abnormally MadeOfIron animal being PlayedForLaughs, anyone living in the U.S. where whitetail deer are prevalent know that they are durable to an almost ''supernatural'' degree. Deer have been known to walk away from 60mph car impacts with little more than a light daze. Considering Richard was stomping on the brakes at the time, the deer probably wouldn't have even been knocked out.
