* ActionPrologue: The movie opens with a fleet of bombers being shredded by German forces because their fighter escort would break formation for OldSchoolDogfighting. This set up the change in strategy that the Tuskegee would be later recruited for, protecting the bombers at all cost and not get distracted looking for glory.

** PrettyBoy, with ''dozens'' of kill markings painted undert under the cockpit. [[spoiler:Germans cockpit (Germans never painted their kill tally under the cockpit, but on the fin and/or rudder.]]rudder).
** Lightning is the leader and best pilot in the squadron. When Pretty Boy pulls a mid-air stall maneuver and almost catches him, [[AwesomenessByAnalysis he immediately assesses the strategy so he can later pull it off]].

Added DiffLines:

* DeliberateValuesDissonance: The Tuskegee pilots have lunch with the bomber crews and they discuss the preferred colloquialism between "colored" or "negro." Both of which from a modern perspective are, if not necessarily considered a slur, considered archaic and may still turn heads.

Added DiffLines:

* TechnologyPorn: Era-accurate planes are rendered in detail, including scenes of repair and maintenance. Most detail is given to the P-40's and P-51's. The final battle includes the first jet fighters Me-262 Schwalbe.

Added DiffLines:

* UpgradeVsPrototypeFight: The final battle includes the Me-262 Schwalbe, the first jet fighters. The Tuskegee had upgraded to the P-51 Mustang, but the speed difference is evident from the start. Despite some losses the Tuskegee were able to fight back admirably because maneuverability in a dogfight is just as important.

* SenselessSacrifice: The incident [[spoiler:in which Lightning is killed]] could have been avoided. The Me 262s Mk-108 30mm cannons were devastating, but this weapon was designed for killing lumbering bombers, not fighters. The muzzle velocity is quite low, meaning in the [[spoiler:head-on pass that results in Lightning's death]], the P-51 potentially could have fired his weapons after the Me 262, and still had time to roll out of the way of the incoming shots.
