''Murder Party'' is a 2007 {{Horror}} {{Comedy}} by Creator/JeremySaulnier and The Lab of Madness about a [[ExtremeDoormat hapless]] [[IneffectualLoner loner]] named Chris Hawley who decides to attend a party that he [[SchmuckBait found an invitation]] for because his [[CatsAreMean cat]] wouldn't move from his chair to let him watch the videos that he rented. Unbeknownst to Chris, the invitation that he responds to [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin is for a literal murder party]] hosted by a group of five [[TheSociopath deranged]], but [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain fortunately not terribly competent]] [[MadArtist artists]] who intend to kill him as a part of an art piece in order to appeal to a [[EntitledBastard wealthy aficionado named Alexander]].

* AxCrazy: Bill [[spoiler: both figuratively and literally at the end of the movie]]. Well more extremely and [[MoodWhiplash effectively]] than the others, that is. Macon, by comparison consciously attempted to play the part but failed miserably.

* BattleCry: Bill [[spoiler:"Fuck the scene! Everyone dies!"]]

* BerserkButton: For Bill [[spoiler:learning that Alexander was lying to them, and that there was no money, finally drove him into a murderous rage. Alexander's name becomes a red one for him so much that after a HopeSpot where an acquaintance of his compliments his art and tells him that he has potential and Bill calms down and looks flattered and it seems like the bloodbath has ended, the mere mention of Alexander's name is enough to make his eyes flash with hatred and return to his bloody rampage]].

* CoolButInefficient: Macon's electric chainsaw, which causes him problems throughout the movie due to its very obvious drawback.

* DeadpanSnarker: Bill. Always deadpan. He didn't sign up for a second degree assault party.

* DoggedNiceGuy: Macon to Lexi. [[spoiler: later on an ill advised attempt at lighting a cigarette while wearing his were-wolf mask puts emphasis on the "Dog" part.]]
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler: Alexander pays for betraying ''everyone'' by experiencing this both literally by Hellhammer who bites off his lips and lower jaw and figuratively once Bill goes berserk and beats him to death with a baseball bat.]]

** The entire artist group becomes offended when Zycho says the N word unexpectedly, and take a disliking to him as a result. Lexi goes so far as to tell him that she hates him.
** Also, Sky, who does not want to kill Chris, and is actively seeking a manner in which they can avoid killing him while still "ruling the scene". Macon is [[MoodSwinger extremely apologetic after one of his murder attempts]], [[spoiler: and in the end, Lexi sets Chris free, but is killed right afterwards while attempting to answer a call from her mother.]]

* ShoutOut: Lexi is dressed as Pris from ''Film/BladeRunner''. Bill is dressed as a Baseball Fury from ''Film/TheWarriors''.

* {{Adorkable}}: Chris, the main character. One could argue that the artists also fall into this category at some points during the movie. Especially Lexi, because of the awkward, silly impersonation of Pris from Film/BladeRunner that she does throughout the film.

* BewareTheQuietOnes: [[spoiler: Bill rules this trope as he spent most of the movie playing a video game and not giving a fuck what happens around him. Once he reached his breaking point however...BackstabBackfire was the least horrible of the things that ensued.]]

* BloodSplatteredWarrior: Played for laughs with Chris.

* SchmuckBait: The invitation to a "murder party" was pretty obvious, even though it was Halloween. Chris proved himself less than mentally acute by responding to this anonymous letter so readily and unquestioningly. The artists remark that they can't believe someone fell for it.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: What a murder party it is! [[spoiler: In short order: Zycho is sawed off slowly in the foot, Alexander has his his lips and lower jaw bitten off and gets beaten to death with a baseball bat, all of Bill's victims get axed to death and Bill himself gets his skull sawn off while still conscious.]]

* TheKlutz: Macon is frequently making stupid, clumsy mistakes throughout the film, like getting his axe caught in the light chord when trying to swing at Chris.

* NotQuiteDead: Quite roasted like a hot dog but not dead as everyone else is quick to assume. [[spoiler: Macon survives with melted skin and a dog mask fused to his face and actually gets to do things since he kills Zycho and chases after Bill, inadvertently saving Chris. Of course before the night is over he dies for good, but is still the penultimate member to die. Not bad.]]

* BiTheWay: Paul and Alexander are both bisexual. Paul admits to it, and Alexander is seen having sex with both Paul and Lexi.

* FauxAffablyEvil: Alexander.

* FacialHorror: [[spoiler: Macon sets his face on fire while wearing the werewolf mask that he's been using as his costume, and trying to light a cigarette. This leads to Macon literally fusing the mask to his face, because Lexi and Paul's photo assistant take too long trying to put him out.]]

* DeadpanSnarker: Bill. Always deadpan. He didn't sign for a second degree assault party.

** Zycho displays stereotypicall Slavic stoicism.

** Also, some of the artists, notably Sky, do not want to kill Chris, and are actively seeking a manner in which they can avoid killing him while still "ruling the scene".
