** NamesTheSame, actually. The real Monica Wright went to Virginia from 2005-2009 and plays for Minnesota; some LA fans would like to [[{{Defictionalization}} Defictionalize]] Wright being a Spark, though.

* MrFanservice: Quincy, especially when he wears those little shorts. Lampshaded by one of Monica's classmates: "Look at that booty. I could just lick the sweat off it." He takes his shirt off a lot too, and he's pretty ripped.

--> '''Quincy:''' Well, since we're being so honest... I'd figured that I'd tell you that I decided to drop out of school and turn pro.
--> '''Mr. Mc Call:''' Oh, boy. Damn it. Look man, I know you're mad at me. Okay? But I cannot let you do this.
--> '''Quincy:''' I always thought that "can't" wasn't in a man's vocabulary.

** There's a lot of resentment between Monica and her mother. Monica always resented her mother's attempts to force her to act more "like a lady" and be in touch with her feminine side and doing stereotypical girly things while refusing to even try to understand why basketball is so important to her both as a hobby and as a career. Meanwhile, her mother ended up resenting Monica for not appreciating the sacrifices she made for her family and for her daughter constantly looking down her nose at her for her self-imposed StayInTheKitchen mindset. [[spoiler:Her mother only relents when she finally sees that Monica is clearly not happy when she tries to give up basketball in favor of an ordinary life.]]

The look of pain on Monica's face on her prom night when her mother shows more pride and support for her getting dressed up nice for a dance than for all the hard work and training that goes into basketball is almost too much to bear.
