* HellIsThatNoise: The terrifying screams made by the dark seekers. Note that unlike most similar effects these were not a combination of animal sounds or created in a studio but were actually created by a single voice artist, Mike Patton of the band Faith No More.

* TechnicallyLivingZombie: The Darkseekers are infected victims of the SyntheticPlague who didn't die but instead mutated into bald, albino cannibals who are reduced to a largely primal mindset. A news report before the start of the apocalypse compares TheVirus[='=] symptoms to rabies, and they're still alive three years after the outbreak. Their superhuman feats are somewhat {{justified}} because one of the symptoms of the virus are that the Darkseekers' adrenal glands are pumping constantly.

* AfterTheEnd: Three years into the future, the Krippin Virus has long since killed 90% of all humans while 9.8% became Darkseekers and 0.2% are immune, with the struggle for survival against the Darkseekers only further decimating the immune's numbers. On what could be considered a silver lining, the low number of survivors means Neville seemingly doesn't have to worry about running foul of bandits or scavengers. There's lots of SceneryGorn with the overgrown ruins of New York City where Neville has lived on his own except for Sam. At the end, [[spoiler:it turns out there's more immune survivors than initially thought, with Neville's treatment providing hope that humanity can retake the world]].

* ApocalypseHow: Class 2, possibly Class 3 or 4. 90% of all humans died to the virus. 9.8% became Darkseekers and 0.2% are immune. Civilization has collapsed and survivors have to deal with Darkseekers hunting them down. The same can be assumed for other species, with the possibility of some with low population counts becoming extinct as a result.

* ApocalypseHow: Class 2, possibly Class 3 or 4. 90% of all humans died to A definite ApocalypseHow/Class2 for humanity, with a good chance that the virus. 9.8% became low number of uninfected being hunted by the larger number of Darkseekers would've made it a ApocalypseHow/Class3A in the long run if not for [[spoiler:Neville's cure getting delivered at the end]]. It's probably a mild ApocalypseHow/Class4 in terms of the Earth's biosphere, as while some plant and 0.2% are immune. Civilization has collapsed and survivors have animal species seem to deal be flourishing with Darkseekers hunting them down. The same can be assumed for other species, with the possibility of human civilization gone, some animal species are susceptible to TheVirus and those with low population counts becoming could become extinct as a result.due to infected animals and Darkseekers hunting them for food.

Added DiffLines:

* FeralVampires: The Darkseekers are essentially this as well as {{Technically Living Zombie}}s: they feed on meat (such as blood), and they're severely burned by UV rays such as those present in sunlight, which forces them to shelter in dark ruins throughout the day and only come out at night.

Added DiffLines:

* ThePlague: Besides being TheVirus, the Krippin Virus also overlaps with this trope, as it only turned 9.8% of the population into the Darkseekers while 90% of the human race died from the virus. It's responsible for the AfterTheEnd plot with [[spoiler:(seemingly)]] very few immune humans left.

Added DiffLines:

* TheVirus: The Krippin Virus is a HatePlague which causes infected humans and animals to physically suffer baldness and albinism and turns them into {{Technically Living Zombie}}s who are especially deadly due to their adrenal glands being constantly open.

Complainy, and also, isn't this version not ex-military?

* TooDumbToLive: Neville is ex-military, yet doesn't carry a sidearm with him when he goes scavenging, only a knife and his rifle. When he is captured in a trap set by the Darkseekers, he loses his rifle and thus upon getting free is forced to crawl to his vehicle for a firearm. Relying on one firearm in an apocalypse situation is a very risky tactic; having a sidearm is useful in a number of situations.
