*LaserGuidedKarma: After Capa spends the entire movie being a bully to Jaan [[spoiler:Jaan knocks Capa of the podium at Le Mans on the final stretch]]

my previous edit sounded too "nuh uh!" so I rephrased it to illustrate better why I added the note in the first place.

** The whole point of deviating from the most popular racing line is AwesomeButImpractical. Everyone follows this line for a reason as it is the fastest way to make a turn, and deviating from it would be slower at best, and throw you off the track at worst. So most of the overtakes Jann makes (both in-game and for real) are pretty much impossible to make, unless you have a much more powerful car, or a car with insane downforce.[[note]] This is in and of itself a heavy simplification. The most popular race line is not necessarily the optimal one on a per-vehicle basis, due to the minute differences in each car and how that affects their performance at 200+mph. A prime example of this in action can be seen on, of all things, Series/TopGearUK, where all the F1 drivers used one racing line, with Lewis Hamilton and the Stig instead taking their own racing lines. Despite all using the exact same car, the Stig and Hamilton ended up being markedly faster[[/note]]

optimal racing lines are fairly subjective and change constantly. Even then they're a general idea based on calculations using a standardized car, the improvements and small gains teams can make within the racing rules mean that the actual cars on the circuit can vary wildly. To say nothing of the different skill levels in drivers, as someone being able and willing to brake that 0.1 second later can make all the difference in how their car performs on the track. In reality "racing lines" are subject to a lot of debate even among professionals all running the same tracks in what are ostensibly "the same" cars.

** The film portrays the Le Mans race as occurring after [[spoiler:Jann's crash in Nürburgring]]. In reality, it was the other way around, and there was a two year gap in between the events. Jann had also already competed in the Dubai 24 Hour Race before Le Mans, while in the film it's his first taste of endurance racing.

** In the film, Jann wins third in class at Le Mans by passing the third-place car on the final lap. In reality, Jann was in fourth place when he crossed the finish line, but a car ahead of him was disqualified after the race for an out-of-regulation gas tank, bumping Jann's team up to the podium.

** As revealed during the night before the final GT Academy race, Jann listens to relaxing music such as Kenny G to help him sleep, or, as does Jann in real-life, meditate before races. Jack takes notice of this prior to one of the races in the film. In the final stretch of [[spoiler:the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jann is struggling from the trauma of his Nürburgring wreck, and Jack plays some of that music through his radio (via his new Walkman that Jann gave to him as a gift, which itself is a ChekhovsGun), to get him to snap into it and get angry, which instantly helps.]]

** The characters of Danny Moore and Jack Salter are only loosely based on real people. Jann's real mentor on the show, Johnny Herbert, was one of three provided for the contestants. Herbert was not mechanic who had washed out of racing due to his nerves but rather a successful Formula One veteran who was doing commentating work when he joined the show. Herbert also did not follow Jann into his professional racing career like Salter does in the film.

* CastingGag: A couple of these in the Japanese dub:
** This is not the first time Creator/YoshitsuguMatsuoka (Jann) has previously voiced a protagonist [[Literature/SwordArtOnline using his abilities he learnt from games in both gaming and real life]].
** A pretty ironic one happens with Creator/ShinichiroMiki's role as the Nissan's marketing executive David Moore, as he previously voiced [[Manga/InitialD Takumi Fujiwara, the main protagonist and an underground racer]]: In this film, not only he doesn't race at all, but he also works for the company who had build many of the cars Takumi had faced in the manga and in the anime, since he drives a ''Toyota'' [=AE86=].

* GoldColoredSuperiority: Capa, the hot-shot rich kid who serves as Jann's primary rival and HateSink, drives a gold Lamborghini.

* HateSink: Nicholas Capa, Jann's primary rival in the film, is an arrogant, hotheaded, and snobbish professional driver who has a very low opinion of GT Academy drivers, thinking that they are beneath him even though Jann constantly proves again and again that he has what it takes to race among the pros. Every time Jann makes a move to overtake him, Capa displays downright nasty unsportsmanlike conduct [[spoiler:by bumping or grinding on Jann's car and gloating about it in the pits later.
