* TastesLikeFriendship: Benji befriends a larger stray dog in ''For The Love Of Benji'' who initially wants nothing to do with him,by sharing a string of sausages with him.
* WidgetSeries: ''Benji, Zax, and the Alien Prince'' was ''weird'' to say the least. Aside from ''Oh, Heavenly Dog's'' reincarnation plot, most Benji productions were reasonably grounded in reality. ''Zax'' was produced at the tail-end (pun intended) of live-action network Saturday morning children's programming, featuring a HumanAlien boy prince protected by Benji as he hides out on Earth as he's hunted by a pair of evil aliens dressed in black SpaceClothes and driving in a black Ford Econoline van. The premise was similar to ''Series/ThePowersOfMatthewStar'' (a contemporaneous show about a ''teenage'' alien prince hiding out on Earth).

* NamedByTheAdaptation: The owner of the cat Sweetie-Peetie, which Benji chases twice in the original film, was not named in the movie. The novelization and the later stories, at least some of which were released under the Literature/LittleGoldenBooks banner, give her name as Mrs. Finster.

* CatScare: In ''Benji the Hunted'', Benji and the cubs have settled for the night under (in?) a fallen tree then Benji hears the sound of something scratching around on top of them. He cautiously creeps forward to see what it is and as he looks up a Raccon suddenly falls to the ground in front of him, making him jump. Benji is not impressed and barks at it in annoyance.

''Benji'' is the name of a fictional dog who has been the focus of a series of movies from 1974 through 2004; the newest film came out in 2018. It is also the title of the first film in the Benji series. While there is only ever one Benji at a time, there have been five dogs to play Benji, the first was Higgins who is best probably known for having played the character "Dog" on the 1960s television series ''Series/PetticoatJunction'' and later starring in the 1974 movie ''Benji''. He was trained and owned by Frank Inn, while Joe Camp is the creator and director of the films.

The fifth Benji was a female dog named Moochie, and the first to be unrelated to the previous Benjis. Moochie was adopted from the Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport after being abandoned and rescued from the streets of Pass Christian. She began filming her first movie a year and a half later. ''Benji Off the Leash'' was released in 2004.

The sixth and current Benji is also a rescue named Fairfield who was adopted from a Virginia Human Society after being found a malnourished stray in a grocery store parking lot, he starred in the Netfix re-boot of the original Benji film which was released in 2018.
