* TheBeard: E pretends Matt, her CampGay best friend, is her husband when she visits her parents to cover up her lesbianism. He has to butch it up significantly so this is plausible.

* GayBestFriend: Matt, E's best friend, a CampGay man who's occupied with advising E, providing some comic relief. He complains repeatedly of being single and is never seen once with a man (as apparently gay men in Sydney are more into tan gym rats).

E, a DJ in a Sydney night club, is unhappy with her life. Her boss, the club's sleazy owner Johnny, blocks her from taking gigs at other clubs, seeing her as his best moneymaker. On finding a large bag of money, E and her friend Matt decide it's their chance at a new life. However, this money really belongs to Johnny, who needs it for his bosses. Before long, they're on the run from him, with E seeking refuge at her ex-girlfriend Trish's farm in the Australian outback.

!Tropes:
* ActionGirl: E unhesitatingly fights off some men who harass two drag queen friends of her, later rescuing Trish and then herself from Johnny as well, showing some martial arts skill while also handling a gun well.
* TheBeard: E pretends Matt, her CampGay best friend, is her husband when she visits her parents. He has to butch it up significantly so this is plausible.
* BedroomAdulteryScene: Trish broke up with E after coming home to find her in bed with another woman. She's still bitter about it when the two meet again in the present.
* CampGay: Matt, E's best friend. He's gay, makes dresses, has notably effeminate mannerisms and is a gentle NonActionGuy.
* ClosetGay: E is not out as a lesbian to her parents, as they're Lebanese Christians whom it seems she thinks would reject her. Trish, when they were together, got very frustrated at being called her flat mate and hidden away (with everything she had in their home) whenever they visited.
* DamselInDistress: Trish is held hostage by Johnny with a knife to her throat, but E saves her.
* DamselOutOfDistress: E quickly frees herself when attacked and held down by Johnny.
* DragQueen: The club where E works has several, and she's friends with them, defending two from being harassed by some homophobic straight men.
* Flashback: E's prior relationship with Trish is continually shown by these during the film.
* GayBestFriend: Matt, E's best friend, a CampGay man who's occupied with advising E, providing some comic relief. He complains repeatedly of being single and is never seen once with a man (as apparently gay men in Sydney are more into tan gym rats).
* GroinAttack: E swiftly kicks one guy who's harassing her draq queen friends in the nuts.
* MakingLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces: E and another woman have sex in the bathroom.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: E and Matt. She's an ActionGirl and tomboy lesbian, Matt's CampGay while decidedly the opposite.
* MaybeEverAfter:
* MsFanservice: E and Trish are both good-looking women, having a long sex scene together.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: E is only called Elmira by her parents, though Trish wrote it once on a postcard addressed to her too.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Johnny is a sleezy, cruel club owner who's also involved with (implied) drug dealing, repeatedly threatening people with bodily harm so he can get his bag of money back. He's the main villain of the plot, while also calling Arabs racial slurs repeatedly, and people of color overall as well.
* RRatedOpening: In the very first scene, E's making out with another woman, with this turning into sex very quickly.
* SecretRelationship: Trish didn't like having to keep her relationship with E a secret from E's parents (as she hadn't come out) at all, which strained them even prior their ultimate breakup.
* SexWithTheEx: E and Trish clearly have a strong attraction for each other still. When Trish lets E stay at her house a few days, they soon have sex the first night she's there.
* ShoutOut: The title is obviously one to Film/AllAboutEve, though the plot is nothing like that.
* YouKnowImBlackRight: Johnny, E's employer, insults Arabs to her face with a variety of slurs. She stares at him incredulously (as he also views her as his best employee)-it's soon reveals she's herself of Leganese Arab ancestry. Johnny doesn't know, or perhaps care it seems.
* WhereEverybodyKnowsYourFlame: E starts out as the DJ at a night club which appears to cater for LGBT+ people, having drag acts along with barechested male dancers as well.
