Lickitung's tongue is about [[OverlyLongTongue 6'6" feet long]] and often hangs out when the Pokemon has its mouth open. Similarly to Kecleon, which occupy a similar niche in Hoenn, it is used to capture prey, and also has saliva containing a paralytic agent, which is used to prevent prey from escaping. They also use their tongues to examine foreign objects or creatures, including humans. Another usage for their tongue are for cleaning themselves since their saliva helps to kill bacteria. Their tails may also share some nerve endings with their tongues, as they quiver once the tongue is fully extended.

When dealing with a trained Lickitung or Lickilicki, it is a good idea to avoid having it slobber over any electronic devices that you own. Also, never leave these Pokemon alone in the presence of smaller Pokemon or children unless they are significantly trained not to automatically attempt to eat anything smaller than they are. There have been occasional instances of Lickitung and Lickilicky mistaking said things for food and eating them, though there is only one recorded example of the latter.

Another tactic used by members of the Lickitung line is to bring their opponent over with their tongue and stomp them repeatedly, breaking many bones in the process. In this case, the only thing you can do is not move and wait for it to be satisfied enough that you've learnt your lesson. [[Trainer's Note: Another technique used by the Lickitung line is known as Little By Little, which involves them using their tongue to attack a single weak point. In the case of humans, this tends to be [[GroinAttack below the belt]].]]
