** @/{{Night}}: Take the above with a grain of salt. If you want a feel-good asskicking romp, this isn't a bad story for it, and it develops its world nicely enough. But therein lies the problem; neither UFO Defense nor SG-1 (and with the sequel to this story, Atlantis and Terror From The Deep) were such things. UFO Defense is the story of a desperate defense against near-incomprehensible alien power, done on much more of a shoestring. SG-1 is the story of having to build a defense for Earth from the ground up with a lot more resources and much better help. Mixing the two wouldn't really turn out like this. On the other hand, this story does present one major truism: to a veteran X-Com squaddie, Jaffa would be as ''nothing''.
* SithkingZero: Both Night and Amitakartok have good points: Yes, it is crazy awesome, but it's not as true to the spirit of the original. However, there is one point that I believe deserves mentioning: it's nearly exhaustively researched. Every single plot point, every twist, every turn, has examples and references clearly listed, with good justification for them. I would say read it.

Even ''Aang'', the fandom's designated ButtMonkey, manages to pull off a series of amazing acts of thoughtfulness, wisdom, and badassery. Aang does get a mild tap, but it is immediately followed by some hard thinking on his part that is ''perfectly'' in character. The Tok'Ra get a nasty slap, but again, the characterization is spot-on, making repeated references to canonical responses. Also, Kryal spends a ''lot'' of time developing a {{Platonic Life Partners}}hip between Toph and Zuko that the series hinted at but never got a chance to develop.

* Most of Vathara's ''SG-1'' stories are cross-overs, and heavily so. But the connections between the worlds she connects are well thought out and engaging to read. (Several are sure to induce laughter so hard shortness of breath and contact with the floor may be common simptoms.) Cross-overs include the worlds of Rurouni Kenshin, Airwolf, Godzilla: The Series, Gargoyles and many others.

** It's a bit of a SelfInsertFic, and the main character is a bit of TheGump because of the way Daniel and/or Jack apparently went to her coffee house during or after almost every single mission, but, well, TropesAreNotBad. It's a well-written, funny, believable story about an OC who happens to be one of SG-1's very few "normal" acquaintances, what they look like to her, and how she handles it.
