* This thread gets several pages worth of fiction a day, and the average quality is higher than SturgeonsLaw would suggest. (That is, more than 10% of it is worthwhile.) Particularly good for short crack, either humorous or [[{{Lemon}} lime,]] or both, but there's all kinds of stuff here.
** Very, very long. Bring a map, you ''will'' get lost in here.

* Penguin's already got a bunch of individual recommendations listed further down the page, but pretty much everything he writes for this series is worth looking at if you like the OriginalFlavor. ''Blood and Spirit'' in particular is a must-read for fans of [[ThoseTwoGirls Suzuka and Arisa]], and ''Stahlkönigin'' and the rest of the Steel Queen Chronicles are a treat for Vivio fans (''Caramel Milk'' in particular contains [[TastesLikeDiabetes 300% your daily recommended sugar intake]]). The rest is largely drabbles and one-shots, some of which is written for [=RadiantBeam=]'s Lutecia/Vivio series ''Shadows and Sunrise'', but it's all pretty entertaining stuff as long as you're not looking for a sweeping epic (Note that I'm only reviewing his ''Nanoha'' materials here; he's also got a bunch of work from other series that I haven't touched yet).

* Seems like a fairly new writer who has put out a ton of fanfiction. It's all Nanoha, but whether you like action, adventure, angst, drama, or comedy (especially comedy!), there is something you'll like. His main work appears to be ''MGLN Crisis'', of which he has two spinoffs, and another two in the works. He also has ''Unexpected Expectations'' which deals with mature subjects, and the darker ''Future Tense''. There is also a bunch of shorts that are guaranteed to make you laugh! You can find a number of his fics on this page, and he updates often, like once a week at least.

* ''Synopsis'': Vita reflects on Nanoha's accident that's flashbacked on in StrikerS. The story takes place right after the accident happens; Vita is sitting outside of the hospital room where Nanoha is lying unconscious.
* ''Comments'': A lovely 1-chapter short story that wonderfully written from Vita's point of view. Start's kinda depressing since Vita's beating herself up for allowing it to happen (seeing Vita's reaction in the flashback is enough to support how bad she's feeling), but she gets cheered up by the end. No pairings.
** I kinda wish there were a few more stories on this event. At most, it was only really mentioned 2 times in StrikerS.

* Recommended by @/NolraiHikari, @/GentlemensDame883, @/{{Rogue 7}}, @/{{Night}}, @/DKN117
* ''Synopsis'': Instead of organizing a military force in Midchilda, Hayate decides to found a school on Earth for magically gifted students.
* ''Comments'': Simply one of the best pieces of fantasy writing I've read in a long long time. In progress. No romantic pairings so far, and none likely any time soon.
** @/GentlemensDame883: The rest of the ''FanFic/DevaSeries'' is worth taking a look at too, even if it only really [[GrowingTheBeard Grew The Beard]] with ''Academy Blues''.
** @/{{Rogue 7}}: Great [=OCs=], well-crafted villains (even if they seemed slightly weak at times, they had a good way of getting around it.), and a well-done take on the magic system. Each OC was unique enough that even if some of them didn't show up all that often, they worked well. My only complaint? Not enough Nanoha and Fate.
** @/{{Night}}: While a worthwhile read, there's a large dose of tinkering with the setting that goes beyond the AU. OriginalFlavor lovers should be warned. Still, where else are you going to get to see the local equivalent of Caro use Nanoha's StuffBlowingUp as an inducement to surrender? It lacks the touch of awesome description, but some of the occurrences are no less epic. You just have to think about it slightly.

* ''Synopsis'': In London, a mysterious figure is stealing Mage's Devices. Nanoha and company are sent to apprehend the culprit. Meanwhile, Arisa and Suzuka chase after their friends on their own, and end up meeting a "Ms. Testarossa"... It only gets [[ItGotWorse crazier]] from there.
* ''Comments'': A succinct, action-packed, and emotional piece of work that's superbly written, and very much in the vein of ''Nanoha''. In a series that has a tendency for its fans to get caught up in fluffy shipping, this story reminds us of the other cornerstones of the series: [[DefeatMeansFriendship Friendship, Family]], and [[WaveMotionGun High]] [[AirJousting Caliber]] [[StuffBlowingUp Weaponry]]. Borrows elements from ''FullmetalAlchemist'', and also [[strike: is the only fic thus far to let Arisa and Suzuka actively participate in the story]] (See also ''Blood and Spirit'' and ''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Crisis'' farther down the page), as well as [[spoiler: actually dealing with the whole [[NotAsYouKnowThem "Dimension"]] part of ''Nanoha'']]
** @/{{Night}}: Wholehearted recommendation despite being unfamiliar with the crossover basis. The story has the frequent sin of being overly short for what it's trying to do, but this is minor compared to the achievements of the work, particularly in effectively remembering the StuffBlowingUp the series is famous for. There is also a serious rolling on the floor laughing moment at the beginning if you think about the implications of Fate's daymare.

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5154685/1/Crystal_Energy Crystal Energy]]'' by Twilights Herald ([[IntercontinuityCrossover Crossover]] with ''{{Mai-Otome}}'')
* Recommended by @/LooneyToons
* ''Synopsis'': The TSAB has found two new Lost Logia in a remote pocket dimension -- the planet Earl and its moon. Complicating matters is that Earl is inhabited by a human civilization that seems to be tapping unknowingly into the power of the planet-sized Logia to turn girls into the strategic weapons called ''Otome''. The TSAB dispatches its two best -- Nanoha Takamichi and Fate Testarossa Harlaown -- to infiltrate the school that manufactures the Otome, Garderobe Academy, in the form of its two newest students. Unfortunately, their Intelligent Devices are locked down into passive scanners to prevent them from drawing too much attention to themselves. Even so, they quickly gain the nickname "The Terrors of Garderobe". And their first trimester is barely over when Arika Yumemiya appears out of the desert to claim her own place at the school.
* ''Comments'': Set in the middle of the timeskip that happens at the end of ''Nanoha A's'', while Nanoha and Fate are both 13, and starting several weeks before ''Mai-Otome'' opens. This is a surprisingly addictive fic. Nanoha and Fate are clearly perturbing the plot of ''Mai-Otome'', and it still remains to be seen how big a spanner in the works they turn out to be. Well-written with numerous plot hooks and instances of foreshadowing already in place to lure the reader deeper into the story.

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5245635/1/Magical_Girl_Nanoha_12 Magical Girl Nanoha 1/2]]'' by Lost Star (AU [[IntercontinuityCrossover Crossover]] with ''[[RanmaOneHalf Ranma 1/2]]'')
* Recommended by @/Nanya, @/LooneyToons
* ''Synopsis'': A simple meeting between two characters creates changes that snowball from a small chance encounter. The character interactions are just hilarious and very much in character for the characters involved. Plus it's one of the few fanfictions that this troper has ever seen that makes both Shiro and Genma awesome without them doing anything directly.
* ''Comments'': Not the first crossover seen between ''Nanoha'' and ''Ranma'', but this one is quite well-done. Only six chapters as of early December 2009, but is basically a re-telling of each season of ''Nanoha'' that's done well enough that even if you don't know about ''Nanoha'', you can follow this story easily enough. The author also does an incredible job at blending the two universes together and is already working on showing the rippling changes for ''As''. Quite worth the read.
** The story (as of chapter six) has a huge change to the plot of ''MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs'', and Ranma becomes a walking shout-out to [[SuperRobotWars Elzam and his Aussenseiter]]. The interactions between Nanoha, Ranma and Fate are always humorous.
** @/{{Comartemis}}: The author needs to work on his introductions a bit; I skipped over this one a few times because the opening paragraphs didn't impress me, but it starts {{growing the beard}} by the end of the first chapter. Definitely worth a look, especially for Ranma's one notable interaction with Precia [[CrowningMomentofFunny ("Yoink!")]].
** 11 chapters and we're into the Ranma arc, Fate [[spoiler: loves taking blackmail photos of Ranma and Nanoha.]] And there tends to be free-for-all fights between [[spoiler: Ranma, Fate and Nanoha as well as Signum, Ranma and Vita.]] Lots of fun.

* ''Synopsis'': Six months after the Book of Darkness Incident, Nanoha and Fate are called in to deal with a pirate gang who've stolen some dangerous artifacts. A week or so later, the Lost Logia have been stolen and two mysterious and very strange people show up at Nanoha and friends' picnic, asking where the city Tokyo is located.
* ''Comments'': This is one of the better ''Nanoha'' fics I've come across, both humorous and dramatic when needed. The two EliteMooks that have been so far introduced are absolutely hilarious, especially in their interactions with Fate and Nanoha.
** Not to mention Nanoha ''accidentally'' creating an explosion that was visible from space and managed to make a nuke-esque mushroom cloud. [[spoiler:Oh, and Precia Testarossa being alive and well and an [[TheStarscream unwilling]] subordinate/tool of the main BigBad]]. This fic needs a page of its own (I'd do it meself, but am ''quite'' busy. Anyone else up to it?)

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5086723/1/Stahlkonigin Stahlkönigin]]'' by DezoPenguin
* Recommended by @/{{Hideki101}}, @/{{Crazael}}, @/DiamondEdge, @/SNobleJr
* ''Synopsis'': The conclusion to his Vivio-centric AU story (although it wasn't so when he began the series). Follows mostly the cast from ''A'''s (although Teana makes a cameo) as they try to thwart a terrorist plot. This story is the finale to his Vivio storyline, so you may want to start [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4580614/1/The_Road_Onward here]].
* ''Comments'': Really, DezoPenguin's entire Vivio-centric series are an excellent read, with well-written dialogue, and fantastic battle scenes. In the case of this story, the characters are deep and complex, and the villains are extremely well done. For a grand finale to an already epic storyline, ''Stahlkönigin'' is a worthy end.
** @/{{Crazael}}: The only downside to this fic is that the chapters are all extremely short, most only being one or two scenes, which could easily be combined together to make longer, more engaging chapters, rather than reading the storyline one conversation every week.
** @/SNobleJr: Wholeheartedly recommended. Also, made [[{{FanFic/TheSteelQueenChronicle}} a page for it]], which needs more examples; get to work, Tropers!

He's got a suit of PoweredArmor, a partner with a noted resemblance to [[NeonGenesisEvangelion Asuka Langley]], this universe's version of [[MegasXLR Coop]], and ''seriously'' bad luck when it comes to machines. He's got just enough skill to survive when the Numbers Cyborgs came after him during the Jail Scaglietti Incident, but when Riot Force Six comes over to check out B.E.S.T.'s new countermeasure for Gadget Drones, Nanoha sees potential for more than just their new AI fighter... Comes with it's own [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb0Bath6SLU trailer]].
* ''Comments'': THIS SERIES IS [[LoveItOrHateIt DIVISIVE]]. PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ADDING ANYTHING HERE; TAKE IT TO THE DISCUSSION PAGE.
** PROS: Writing is of a very high technical calibre. Storytelling is also of similarly high calibre. Characterization of the [=OCs=] is good. Has some interesting concepts like TSAB adapting the gadget technology for their own drones and magic-assisted armor.
** CONS: DidNotDoTheResearch on the effectiveness of conventional weapons against mage Barrier Jackets; Subaru soaks anti-tank weaponry in Soundstage X. Incessant references to other works choke the narrative. Canon characters are rare and not dealt with well. Is rather disrespectful of the TSAB's organizational competence.

* ''Synopsis'': One year after the events of ''StrikerS'', Nanoha and crew find their battle continues. Old foes re-emerge, leading to a climactic clash with the fate of Mid-Childa, the TSAB, and Magic itself as the prize.
* ''Comments'': One of the better [[ContinuationFic continuation]] fanfics out there. A lot of adventure, action, relationship and character growth. Ties a lot of disparate elements together in a way that makes sense, while giving believable character backstories and motivations. Uses much of the large developed ensemble cast in a fairly big adventure. Some things are handled slightly different than background materials might suggest, and sometimes explanations get a bit too technical (and may bend reason a bit). Also, might be a few too many characters to keep track of at times. But overall a good, fun romp through the ''Nanoha''-verse for those that love the series. As a bonus, the author has recently finished it!
** @/{{Comartemis}}: Normally I am very picky about my ''Nanoha'' fanfiction (if it's not either Classic or ''A's'' OriginalFlavor or generally fluffy/comedy/general lighthearted tone, there's something like an 80% chance I won't like it), but this one hooked me hard enough to keep reading through what ''appears'' to be a FaceHeelTurn by several of the good guys. There's a lot to love about this series if you're a big fan of the OriginalFlavor; Arf and Yuuno getting back in the action? (with the former [[spoiler:briefly being [[BackFromTheDead dead]], admittedly]]) [[AscendedExtra Check!]] Suzuka and Arisa not only getting appearances but [[spoiler: kicking massive amounts of ass in a miniature mech?]] [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome Double check!]] A final and ''satisfactory'' answer to the Nano/Yuuno/Fate shipping issue? [[spoiler: [[strike: Threesome!!!]] [[OT3 Triple check!]]]] The return of [[spoiler: Kaiser Vivio?]] [[{{Squee}} Quadruple check!]] The return of [[spoiler:Precia, "piloting" Al-Hazred and armed with a shitload of high-yield nuclear missiles]]? [[OhCrap Check]].
** The followup series, ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5575373/1/Red_Jewel_Diaries Red Jewel Diaries]]'', was recently completed and has quite a variety of stories that there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. The Vivio and Corona story was hilarious! Appears to be some setup for another series as well.
** A few very rare [[RougeAnglesOfSatin spelling and grammar issues]], but they disappear about halfway in. Though worth mentioning is an [[{{Narm}} unintentional]] reference in Chapter 16, where Nanoha & Fate "[[MetalGearSolid feel]] [[MemeticMutation asleep]]".
** @/{{Night}} Crisis itself can behave a little weird at times, but improves greatly after the first few chapters. Try not to let the incoming Quattro behavioral modification turn you off; she gets much better in Red Jewel Diaries.
** @/{{Jomlos}} "[[LukeIAmYourFather Perhaps, like a good loving father, I am only protecting you, my dear daughter]]?", and I'd stop at that, {{WMG}} has been scientifically proven. This story need a page on it's own!
** [[FanFic/MGLNCrisis Done!]]

* Recommended by @/{{SAMAS}}, @/{{ObssesedNuker}}, @/DKN117
* ''Synopsis'': Two ships crash on Mid-Chlida through dimensional space. Unfortunately, either one of them alone represents a threat to all life on the planet. Da [[{{Warhammer 40000}} Orks]] and the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Death Korps of Krieg]] seem to be of a like mind about the state of the planet: KillEmAll!
* ''Comments'':
** @/{{Night}}: This is extremely well-written, but there are things that sound awesome in theory, but don't work well together in practice. With the TSAB's advantages of personal flight, starship support, and being able to abuse the bejesus out of teleportation, this story can ultimately end only one way if they're competent. Maybe it'll go down TheSalvationWar-style and be awesome along the way, and maybe it won't. It's too early to tell.
** @/{{ObssesedNuker}}: Having gone into an extensive [[WordOfGod private discussion with the author]], this troper would like too reassure the above. Without giving anything away there is a reason the title has the words [[{{Foreshadowing}} Book]] [[SequelHook 1]] in it.
*** Which isn't terribly reassuring since it suggests either someone hasn't read Siege of Vraks and doesn't know how the Death Korps operates, or handed the Bureau an idiot ball about using their vastly superior mobility over Orky and IG forces. Almost any other Imperial Guard force would have been a better choice as opposed to the siege-based, slow-reacting, innovation-opposed Krieg. Catachans might have had a fair shot at winning by virtue of a relatively dispersed command structure.
**** I can't think of a way to say anything further without utterly spoiling it, but you are thinking in the wrong direction.
*** Ah, but if he'd used anyone besides a group like the [[ChurchMilitant fanatically]] [[KillEmAll vicious]] [[LeaveNoSurvivors Death]] [[EvilArmy Korps]], we probably wouldn't have had a conflict.
** @/{{Marlowe}}: The Nanohaverse magic is terribly underpowered in this one: one of the Emperor's Stalinist monkeys takes a Plasma Smasher to the face and doesn't even get knocked out. I know that power-level discussions between universes are always futile, but I can't help but feel that should have left nothing but ashes. There's no accounting for the Nanoha character's obvious secondary powers. Fate gets punted from a great height through several floors of a building at the start of A's and isn't even phased. I can't buy her being wrestled to the ground by a Commissar or seriously threatened by lasguns and Bolt pistols. More obviously, in spite of abundant evidence that they're fighting utterly depraved and murderous hordes, no-one has pulled out Plasma Zamber or Diabolic Emission yet. The writing is definitely professional, and above a lot of others on this list, but I'm inclined to think of this as a Nanoha fic in name only. I'll still follow it to see where it goes.
*** I would dispute the power situation. After all, Fate took a direct hit by a melta (you know, the thing designed to kill ''battle tanks'') at close range and that was after fighting a Chimera where she took some hits from its multi-las.
*** Sinclair: I would like to point out that for most of the time Fate and Nanoha were (are still?) holding back, trying not to kill anyone. Remember that huge blast that smashed through half the Cradle? It "only" knocked Quatro out. On the other hand, going by the rules of the game, the fight between Vita and the Mega-Armored ork should have been fatal for her (power claw and all), so I guess it's fairly balanced in that respect. Being wrestled to the ground: it's actually pretty realistic, considering that Krieg is trained in close combat and I haven't seen real evidence of Fate having augmented physical strength in the series, not that that would help much against a professional putting on a hold. She is good with a weapon, not in a brawl. Yes, there is evidence that the invaders won't be holding out on anything, though if you go by the accounts of WWI and, especially, WWII, people have a tendency not to believe in outrageous acts of violence if they haven't seen them. Now that Krieg has nuked a few cities I'm expecting Mid-Childans to get serious.

* ''Synopsis'': While on Earth, Vivio overhears a comment made by Nanoha that causes her to run off and meet someone who will change her destiny. At least for the time he's on Earth. Crosses over with ''KamenRiderDecade''.
* ''Comments'': Even though this troper has never seen ''KamenRider'', he still found the fic to be very enjoyable to read. And, really, Vivio getting her own Rider Kick is just awesome. [[spoiler: Okay, so it was a double kick with Tsukasa, but who cares!?]]
** @/{{Pikawil}}: Too bad '''[[http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/444164 this]]''' doesn't happen in the fic.
** @/EddieCurrent: Seconded on the original rec from the other way: I am a longtime ''KamenRider'' fan. Never seen any ''Nanoha''. This is awesome.
** @/{{Psyga315}}: Thirded. I know bits and pieces of ''Nanoha'' and I have seen all the episodes of ''Decade'', and I enjoyed it.
** @/{{Comartemis}}: Meanwhile the Nanoha fanatic who knows jack-all about Kamen Rider says... [[SoOkayItsAverage eh]]. A few things bugged me about this one; the aforementioned comment that makes Vivio run off on her own gave me unwanted flashbacks to an old Olsen Twins movie (''To Grandmother's House We Go'', anyone?) which made it hard to read the first chapter without massive facepalming. Vivio gets to play "helpless little girl" just long enough for Tsukasa to swoop in and rescue her, but she canonically already knows enough magic to defend herself even without the training she's gotten in [=ViVid=] (''Sacred Cluster!''), and then she turns around and gets a big fight scene later in the story where she kicks mucho ass. (Inconsistent much?) Nanoha and Fate's inactivity in said fight scene is also rather jarring; they aren't exactly helpless bystanders even without their devices. These are all relatively minor complaints, but the story is only 4 chapters long (5 if you count the Yuun-O omake) and has barely enough plot to fill a PoorlyDisguisedPilot episode so the things the author did wrong are that much more noticeable. Overall it's a decent piece of work and a good way to kill ten or fifteen minutes but it's definitely not one of the best entries on this page.

There's just one small problem; Nanoha is newly crippled and still recovering from her timeskip injuries, but if the Senshi ask for her help [[ChronicHeroSyndrome she'll give it regardless of what it may cost her]]. Luckily Fate and Arf are around to stop the Senshi from bothering Nanoha while she's on medical leave, but when Beryl gets wind of Serenity's return and the Senshi mistake Fate for a witch keeping their Princess under a spell... well, [[MeleeATrois there's really only one way this can end]].
* ''Comments'': Now ''this'' is my kind of ''Nanoha'' crossover. The story's only one chapter and a prologue long so far but Bissek has already dangled a few intriguing plot hooks in front of his readers, particularly [[spoiler: Alicia and Precia showing up in the Dark Kingdom]] and a note in his author's notes that the "destined love" of Serenity and Endymion is not quite as set in stone as it was in ''SailorMoon'' canon (so all you [=NanoFate=] fans can put down the torches and pitchforks... for now), which leads me to believe we've got a Present Love vs Destined Love subplot waiting in the wings.

* Recommended by @/{{Comartemis}}
* ''Synopsis'': In the great city of Tokyo, Ranma and Genma Saotome arrive at the Tendo Dojo to fulfill Genma's dream of joining the twin schools of Anything Goes Martial Arts. That's great, but Ranma has much more pressing issues than romance, like the fact that he turns into a magical girl when splashed with cold water, or the fact that he's best friends with the ghost of that same magical girl and is ''very'' interested in remedying that whole "ghost" thing...
* ''Comments'': Take Ranma, add Fate Testarossa, mix and serve chilled. Not an epic saga like some of the other entries on this page (and considering the author's update schedule, it's unlikely to ever become one), but the three chapters that are there are an entertaining way to kill an hour or so, and Bean has dropped the beginnings of an original conflict in the latest chapter.

When an excavation team uncovers lost scriptures from the Book of the Silver Cross, Yuuno gets called away from his civilian life to lend his expertise to the case, but things get really weird really fast when he finds the excavation site blown to smithereens and the Huckbein fighting... ''the Materials?'' Yeah baby, it's everyone's favorite {{Evil Twin}}s from ''The Battle of Aces'', and things are about to get very ''very'' interesting for our dear Ferret Boy...
* Comments: It's too early to say exactly where this one's headed, but so far it's got a wonderful combination of crack, action, and a dose of [[strike: Yuunoha]] Yuuno/Material-S teasing that looks like it could turn into [[TenchiSolution Yuuno/Materials]] with minimal work. The real stars of this fic are the Materials themselves, though; I haven't had the chance to play ''Battle of Aces'' yet, but if they're as CrazyAwesome in canon as they've been so far in this series, then it's on my Must Buy list, language barrier be damned!
** @/{{Night}}: This is not a serious story, and it shows. If you're just looking for cracky goodness, without much else, you can do that here. But beyond being insane, there's not much to recommend it and the Materials do not in any way, shape, or form live up to the moniker of "EvilTwin" to the canon characters, nor do they appear truly similar to the Battle of Aces characters they are supposed to emulate. It is, however, still early.
*** Considering the setting takess place circa ''Force'' which is approximately 15 years after the end of A's, one cannot expect to see the Materials as they were portrayed in their ''Battle of Aces'' appearances to retain the exact same personality quirks after all that time. So it was reasonable that AlternativeCharacterInterpretation would be applied here to create the CrazyAwesome personalities seen in the fic. And so far, they have kept to their key personality traits defined in the original game: Material-S being polite and not quite as outgoing as Nanoha, Material-L being a mix of childish and AxCrazy; and Material-D acting in a somewhat vain manner.
*** @/{{Night}}: Of course, that doesn't say anything about the setup of the fic itself. Or that the Materials entered the timeline in the same fashion or the same time. They also do not truly keep those traits; they {{Flanderize}} them...which is keeping with the tone. It remains early to judge either way.

* ''Synopsis'': The main characters of Evangelion take the powers fanon has tended to give them to the extreme and morph into physical manifestations of the Warhammer 40K Warp Gods. As they break into the multiverse, they meet up with Nanoha and the TSAB; chaos ensues.
* ''Comments'': The author Academia Nut wrote two ''Evangelion'' fics, ''Thousand Shinji'' and ''The Open Door''. The second of these was little more than a directionless Mary Sue stomp-fest. While this is ostensibly a response fic to the latter, this thin veneer is soon lifted and it becomes an epic ''Nanoha'' fic with a feel similar to ''Strikers'' and ''Force'' rather than either the first two seasons or the grimdark of ''[=W40K=]''. At the same time, it stands well on its own even without knowledge of those two fics, though ''Thousand Shinji'' does provide some context. Overall, the writing flows well to the point that I was initially surprised when the Vivio manga contradicted what happened in this fic. (This footnote is incomprehensible to those who have not read ''The Open Door'' (and spoileriffic)). [[hottip:footnote:The author takes the ''Hancock'' approach to criticizing ''The Open Door''. Rather than simply refusing to make the universe revolve around its main characters, it beats New Chaos half to death with the idiot ball and paints them as utterly evil. While they don’t sink to new levels of excess, in the original fic they had [[BlueAndOrangeMorality benevolent but ali]][[NiceJobBreakingItHero en]] motivations while here they simply do things ForTheEvulz like their actual ''[=W40K=]'' counterparts. The fic is still enjoyable if you can swallow that pill.]]
** One might at first think that this is just Iaculus' TakeThat to ''Fanfic/TheOpenDoor'', but I struck some FridgeBrilliance concerning the portrayal of New!Chaos here. [[hottip:*:[[OmniscientMoralityLicense They consider their actions all justified in the name of fighting]] [[EldritchAbomination the C'Tan]], but one must not forget that they're dealing with Chaos. Chaos that has corrupted every other WellIntentionedExtremist foolish enough to think they can use Chaos for their own reasons, no matter how justified they think it to be, they will always fall to it. There are a few mentions of the Gods being against hurting children, which may get a pass if you think that brainwashing children into soul-eating war machines don't count to that act, but [[SuzumiyaHaruhi Kyon]] might disagree with you. And a Chaos Assassin showed some distress at learning that their attack on the [=TSAB=] killed more civilians than combatants, having apparently bought some bullshit about the Chaos Gods' "well intentions," although the 15,000 people the [=TSAB=] and the [=SOS=] Brigade were able to rescue from the Suzumiya-verse and the uncounted dead innocents from beyond the [[StargateVerse Stargates]] and [[StarTrek Federation Space]] would disagree. Now, they're spreading Chaos across multiple universes, justifying their corrupting, torturing and slaughtering all in their path in the name of their grand crusade. I could very well imagine [[TheChessmaster Tzeentch]] laughing it up and going "Just as planned."]]
** I love here the portrayal of Nanoha, who refuses to let the horrors of fighting Chaos get to her, even when they did things that forced her to [[spoiler:[[ShootTheDog leave a corrupted Lucius the Eternal-like Alicia where she fought her and later kill some TSAB personnel, including Caro and Erio]], throwing Fate to the HeroicBSOD ''twice'']], and she gets berated by a Chaos Assassin for the [=TSAB=]'s humane treatment of Chaos [=POW=]s and that Nanoha should just kill her since no amount of torture could break her, but Nanoha throws all of that back at the assassin's face, [[WorldOfCardboardSpeech list off exactly what she is going to do and say "This is the will of Nanoha Takamachi."]]

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6018180/1/Future_Tense Future Tense]]'' by Kaijo
* Recommended by Nanya
* ''Synopsis'': The future went very, very wrong due to some unfortunate events. Nanoha wakes up to find a future where everything she knew is now wrong and nothing makes sense.
* ''Comments'': This is a ''very'' dark fic. It's not a matter of who will die, but when they will die. AnyoneCanDie indeed. Very engaging fic, I'm just hoping that this is a [[AllJustADream possible bad future]]. Only time will tell.
** @/{{Night}}: While well-written and fairly dark, this story is short on explanation or believability. Presenting a grimdark Bureau future takes ''work'' because it goes against everything the shows have done or said. That work has not been done and even trying to feed it in to us incrementally as the story does only highlights how absurd each individual piece is.
** @/{{Ensetsu}}: I disagree, as we already have bad things happening because of well-intentioned extremists in the form of Regius, as well as countless examples from our own history of governments slowly going bad. Throw in the personal losses and possible Quattro manipulation that this fic hints at, and it's not hard to imagine a society suspending civil liberties in the name of security. Of course, it all still could be a dream construct or something, which is what some people think.
** @/{{Justin_Brett}}: I'll give this one a recommendation too, but with some points of contention I personally found. For one, the narrative suffers from ProtagonistCenteredMorality and BlackAndWhiteMorality: no attempt is made to show the Bureau's side of things, and aside from Fate and Teana, they're all pretty much faceless goons. Nanoha herself deliberately ignores any good things that might have come from the Bureau's new stance, and anyone siding against them is a hero. I disagree that the Bureau becoming less humanitarian is impossible, but this story doesn't even try to show the ''why'' in regards to the terrorists it keeps talking about. Additionally, Kaijo himself says he likes to put in whatever elements from Vivid and Force that he likes, bringing in several characters that don't really need to be here in roles that don't suit them perfectly. It's a bit distracting.

* ''Comments'': Another winner from [=DezoPenguin=]. This one focuses on a time period that wasn't touched on in either the main series or the manga, namely the beginning of Fate's Enforcer training when she was a full-fledged combat mage but a rookie law enforcer. The tone of the series so far is similar to OriginalFlavor with an added dose of DetectiveDrama for spice, and while Nanoha and the rest of the cast are absent so far, DP has a host of interesting OCs up his sleeve to fill in for them, not least of whom is Yaris, Fate's reluctant mentor. * ''Synopsis'': Sette of the Numbers has been released from prison early for model behavior. With no other reasonable mission objectives, she does the only logical thing: move into the Nakajima house, and attempt to integrate into society. Key word being, 'attempt'.
* Comments: Imagine, if you will, the illicit love child of [[HaruhiSuzumiya Yuki Nagato]] and [[FullMetalPanic Sosuke Sagara]]. That's Sette as Moczo writes her. Short but ''hysterical''.
** @/SNobleJr: Recommended, oh so very much. Still just two short chapters in, yet already side-splittingly funny. The Numbers get some much-needed time in the spotlight, and Sette is oddly adorable in her own socially inept way.
** @/{{Rampulus}}: The fic is hilarious, particularly the bits in which Sette is a UnreliableNarrator of sorts because of her not understanding society (like when she puts on a bathing suit without realizing what it is), and some of the conclusions she comes up with (calling in the middle of the night would bother people, but breaking into their house would not).

* ''Synopsis'': Hayate's almost always smiling, no matter what. Sometimes, those smiles hide deep secrets.
* Comments: A darker flair for any Nanoha story, I'll admit, but it does drag you in and keep you there until the end. Told from Hayate's perspective, it's a very dark one-shot, for sure, but the very sense of realism is what makes it good. Not for those who dislike stories with darker overtones.
** @/{{Rampulus}}: The sexual abuse was a bit much, and it would have been enough to simply show just how lonely Hayate was before the Wolkenritter came into her life. The fic suggests that Hayate's SkinshipGrope tendencies were an act to avoid unwanted male attention, when she had been interested in that since at least the first sound stage of A's. Then again, it is interesting to see how Hayate would react when [[spoiler:Graham confesses what his plans for her had been]], something that was suggested to happen eventually in canon, but never followed up on.

Divided into four parts, a prologue and one part for each of the three seasons, although not even the first part has yet reached completion (despite already being over 110,000 words long).
* ''Comments'': Like innumerable fanfictions, far BetterThanItSounds, managing to work despite nearly collapsing under the weight of its vastly disparate elements. Borrows heavily from Wars both [[StarWars Stellar]] and [[SuperRobotWars Super-Robotic]], its finest aspect is the growth that Chrono undergoes as a character and a person. Prone to PurpleProse and SesquipedalianLoquaciousness, but like I said, it ''works''.

However, overall it's a good read. EDIT FROM THE FUTURE: Series continues, and with ''Day In The Life'', it's only getting better.
**** @/{{Rampulus}} The characters ''in general'' seem somewhat more emotional than they do in canon material (even [[TheStoic Chrono]], who gets a touch of KnightTemplarBigBrother) and often prone to angst. Despite this, it does a nice job of looking at issues other characters deal with that aren't touched on as much in canon (like the Numbers reintegrating into society), and has quite a few nice references to the ''Sound Stages'' and ''Triangle Heart 3'', showing the author's attention to detail.

* ''Comments'': This collection of shorts is really something that can put a smile on anyone's face. Cute, short and funny, the mini-stories in this fic are mostly jokes that happen in between the many stories that follow Vivio Takamachi and her girlfriend Lutecia Alphine. While they can be enjoyed by themselves, this troper highly recommends reading this charming series [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4844674/1/Learn_the_Hard_Way from the beginning]]. ** {{TaleArt}}: Very funny little pieces if one knows the main story, although some of them could be stand alone one-shots. Highly recommend it.
* {{Thraz}}: Bad form to delete someone else's review. As I said before, Shadowfire jumps around so much it's hard to get a proper feel for when things happen, and it still suffers from the problem that Shadowfire is based in an AU that is implausible both in universe and in pairing; the Vivio and Lutecia characters were basically setup via Word of God by the author, and thus the development suffers. Shadowfire is mostly all yuri fluff, but if someone wants yuri flu there is tons of NanoFate that is better and believable. Most of Shadowfire isn't so much a story, as it is "See Alice and Jane talk; see Alice and Jane do something" without actually going anywhere. The relationship itself is stalled, so not only wasn't it properly developed, but it appears to have petered out and thus won't be going anywhere.

* ''Comments'': X-Rated Comedy. Basically, Nanoha & Fate visit Yuuno while he's on the job, and [[spoiler:accidentally awaken and become the two targets of an ancient Belkan... sex toy. The first chapter is [[NaughtyTentacles standard fare]], but it's the next three that make this fic worth mentioning. The "device" does two things to our two female leads: it "imprints" them on Yuuno; and it shoots their libidos into ridiculous overdrive. Chapters 2-4 details Yuuno's (usually doomed) attempts to deal with a pair of nymphomanic mages who only have eyes for him, and won't give him a moment's peace if they can help it, with poor Yuuno being so utterly worn out by their "attention" that after a week of this (between the 1st and 2nd chapters) he's desperately running ''away from'' them, lest they wear his body out. The various elaborate methods he uses in his [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption attempts]] to outrun, outmaneuver, or sneak past the girls, along with Nanoha & Fate's schemes and methods to capture their favorite boy-toy, are what makes this fic good: they're ''[[CrowningMomentOfFunny hi-larious]]''. And let's not forget TheStinger with Shamal at the end of the last chapter...]] NeedsABetterDescription.
** @/{{Comartemis}}: ........uh........ [[DistractedByTheSexy oh right, the review]]. First chapter doesn't ''quite'' suffer from IKEAErotica but it could use some better description to make the scene a little more satisfying. Chapters 2-4 are ''hysterical'' if also very ''very'' [[CrackFic absurd]]. ** @/{{Night}}: While it had promise, the third chapter doesn't go anywhere at all or do much of interest, and that's basically it for the story it seems. EDIT FROM THE FUTURE: The fourth chapter isn't much better. Story has just stalled out, it seems. EDIT FROM THE FUTURE OF THE FUTURE: Even the collected AnimeSuki version is, well, boring. The story stalled out at chapter two. Perhaps the most interesting thing the story does after the second chapter is eventually assert that a regular human can beat up a Combat Cyborg, which is both bad for suspension of disbelief and all kinds of crazy.
** @/{{TaleArt}}: Most chapters were posted in the AnimeSuki forum, but they've gotten lost in the thousands of posts since the last update. Shame.

* Recommended by @/LooneyToons

* Recommended by @/Nanya, @/LooneyToons

* ''Comments'': This is one of the better ''Nanoha'' fics I've come across, both humorous and dramatic when needed. The two EliteMooks that have been so far introduced are absolutely hilarious, especially in their interactions with Fate and Nanoha.

Da [[{{Warhammer 40000}} Orks]] and the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Death Korps of Krieg]] seem to be of a like mind about the state of the planet: KillEmAll!
* ''Comments'':

MegaCrossover with GreenLantern and the rest of the DC Universe, {{Negima}}, SailorMoon, FateKaleidLinerPrismaIllya, CardcaptorSakura, and a lot of other stuff.

* Recommended by @/{{Comartemis}}

* ''Notes'': Same author and same over-the-top craziness as ''Someone for Everyone''. The Numbers' colorful personalities, as usual, bounce off each other in quite entertaining ways, and Jail is [[LargeHam as enormous a ham as ever]]. * Recommended by @/{{Comartemis}}
* ''Synopsis:'' Takes place circa ''Force''.

* Recommended by @/DiamondEdge, Gadeel

* Recommended by Nanya

*** @/{{Night}} There are bits of this series that stick in my craw, as Fate and Nanoha act much more like their original series versions (with a dose of moodswing-y) than ''StrikerS'' or even ''A'''s despite the apparent timeframe.

First chapter doesn't ''quite'' suffer from IKEAErotica but it could use some better description to make the scene a little more satisfying. Chapters 2-4 are ''hysterical'' if also very ''very'' [[CrackFic absurd]]. This is also one of the few Yuuno-centric fics I'd recommend to [=NanoFate=] shippers, mainly for the simple pleasure of watching Ferret Boy ''squirm''. My biggest complaint? Not enough sex!

* Recommended by DKN117, @/{{TenFour}}
* ''Pairing'': Nanoha/Fate (Under The Table), Signum/Shamal (Pink On Blonde)
* ''Synopsis'': Two stories, tied together. ''Under The Table'' shows a funny little interaction between Nanoha & Fate during a meeting, as well as the aftermath conversation between Fate and Signum. ''Pink On Blonde'' shows a peek at Signum and Shamal's end of the story.
* ''Comments'': Hot and Hilarious. the first fic shows us a wonderful look at Nanoha's mischievous (and horny) side and Signum's surprising knack at teasing people... with poor Fate the target of both. The second fic shows that Shamal can have fun at others' "expense", too, and then goes on to show Signum's awkward attempts to "get back at" Shamal.

* ''Pairings'': Jail/OC, [[spoiler: some burgeoning Nove/Wendi]]
* ''Synopsis'': Jail Scagiletti decides to go out shopping one day and meets a cashier that causes strange feelings in him. A [[CrackFic humorous]] AU that throws ''StrikerS'' canon out the window and runs away.
* ''Comments'': This is probably the only fic were Jail is not only likable, but you want him to succeed. His line of "Girls don't like it when you blow up their city." is just great. Also, Sein's hilarious with the way she tries to play matchmaker [[spoiler:with Nove and Wendi due to Wendi kissing Nove to keep Jail's love interest from realizing that she was being followed.]]
** @/{{Guessmyname}}: I... I am never going to be able to see that guy in the same way again! * Falls off his chair giggling*
*** @/{{Darksword}}: This is really the funniest fic I've read in a long while. And it has one of the villains as a main character to boot! Jail is not only likable here, but actually quite lovable and any reader will be sure to cheer him on in his quest to conquer the girl of his dreams!
Shame.
** @/SNobleJr: [[http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2727330&postcount=17563 Chapter 12]] (the latest one as far as I know), with links to the earlier chapters included. Also, recommended; the Numbers need more love, and their quirky personalities definitely stand out here.

* ''Synopsis'': Post-[=StrikerS=]. Nanoha has a relationship problem, and seeks the help of a psychologist. But it's ''not'' your normal brand of relationship problems, and for ''MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha'', that means taking it {{up to eleven}} and beyond.
* ''Comments'': One-Shot CrackFic that takes the [[spoiler:TenchiSolution]] to a logical extreme for utmost hilarity, and ''does it right''.
** Zafira? Lindy?! QUATTRO!!!??? Gives a whole new meaning to ActionGirl.

* ''Synopsis'': A series of one-shots exploring various pairings, "just to see if I can do it", according to the writer.
* ''Comments'': For a pure self-imposed challenge, this series of oneshots turns out both laughs and d'awww in equal measure (with the 5th story being a combination of WAFF and TearJerker). The author has opened the floor to requests, though the forum requires registration to post there.
** @/LooneyToons: As the owner of the forum in question, allow me to note that registration is a formality forced on me by several persistent spammers, and I try to make it as painless as possible. Oh, and Ops' vignettes are good stuff. Read'em.
** @/{{Night}}: A number of the pairings listed are ''mentioned'' as later work, but they're not actually ''written''. Appears dead.

* ''Synopsis'': Negi Springfield is transferred to Uminari so he can find out wha't it's like to be a teacher in the ''real'' world. He ends up teacher of Nanoha's Class. Hilarity, of course, Ensues. Set after A's, and goes for OriginalFlavor.
* ''Comments'': The fic actually explores the steps to Nanoha falling in love, while at the same time having an underlying threat to keep it from rurning into a pointless fluff fest.
