** For those of you who were put off by the "Cristian!" thing, as I was, give this fic a chance. The main character is very likable and the whole thing is great fun. I was expecting a religious rant, but got one of my favorite OC fanfics. Also, calling Lockhart "Captain Vainglory" is made of win.

Anyways, A Second Chance at Life and its sequels, Changes in a Time of War and A Magical World is a realistic take on the overdone 'Harry gets into a new school' cliche. It's a complete AU of Deathly Hallows, and features a much more diverse magical world, new forms of magic (which are fully explained by the story instead of AppliedPhlebotinum). Unfortunately A Magical World hasn't been updated for over a year now, and leaves a lot of plot points hanging. Her older works aren't that stellar either.

* ''Synopsis'': In the words of the author, "Slytherins 'spontaneously' combust, Sirius falls in love with a girl that wants to turn him into a toilet, McGonagall becomes a Muggle stripper, James forces Lily to be Seeker in exchange for anything she wants." A Marauders fic set in sixth year about the trials and tribulations of the Marauders going about their day-to-day, rather extraordinary lives, in particular Sirius and James. Begins with James still wooing Lily, Sirius shagging everything in sight, Sirius' intended shagging everything in sight, exploding nuts, off-color humor, lots of talk about Zonkos, and general crackiness. There isn't much in the way of plot--you can tell from the very beginning that it's all humor with a side of fluff and some angst. The appeal is all in the fun and the surprising depth of emotion.
* ''Pairings'': Sirius/OC, James/Lily, Remus/Sarcasm
* ''Comments'': This *is* a fic with an OC as the main narrator. With this knowledge, I went into it accepting that it was probably going to be a waste of time. However, it ended up being quite a diamond in the rough. I've never heard of this author before, and s/he seems to be unknown, but they write with an appealing familiarity with the universe--lots of gags involving obscure pieces of Zonkos trickery and such. The OC is beautifully fleshed out, and I ended up liking her more than I usually like OCs. Not a Mary Sue, and very funny and a good counterpart to the other main characters. The light-hearted banter and outrageously funny, impossible situations is what makes this fic worth reading. You can see the resolution coming a mile away, but the journey is definitely the best part. Sirius is characterized as atrocious and brash (the fic opens with him snogging a girl in a broom-closet, a girl whose name he just can't remember), the OC (his love interest) is definitely more of the same, and the other Marauders are hovering about in the background like so much flotsam and jetsam to their antics. However, there is enough emotional angst and growing pain to temper the more ridiculous aspects. I ended up amused and sometimes laughed outright.

* ''Comments'': This is actually very good. Normally alternate year stories have Harry somehow gain power overnight (be it via time travel, inheritance or divine intervention). This story avoids that, and gives Harry a realistic power increase in proportion to the work he is putting in. This story has no moments that truly are canon-breaking (well, Crabbe and Goyle are a tad [[DracoInLeatherPants Leather Pantsified]] as unbelievable as that sounds). Voldermort is a tad passive at the start, but that does change later on. Even those who normally hate [[spoiler: H/Hr]] probably won't mind as it comes of believably after all the main characters undergo quite a lot of well-written development. No-one is really acts out of character other than Crabbe, Goyle [[MoralEventHorizon and Dawlish]]. Now if only SPSmith would continue the sequel...

** A little slow at first but picks up rather well. Unfortunately due to its age it has a few instances of the later canon books deterring some plot points but overall the story works well and integrates the later books when possible.

* ''Comments'': Your typical Harry is being sent to Azkaban plot with a lot of twists involved. At the top of the list is Harry's friends don't abandon him but are stopped by a KangarooCourt. At the center of this story is a very interesting take of the Unspeakables and who runs them. Amusingly there is an OC that has the code name of Mary Sue. The author doesn't have any planned pairings at the moment and the story is set after ''Order of the Phoenix'' (with some elements of the later books mixed in the later chapters).

* ''Comments'': This is a unique AU in which Harry has been thrown into another dimension by conditions out of his control. It starts out after Book 6 but before Harry leaves Privet Drive. It starts abruptly with Harry attempting to both get some dueling experience and get money for his mysteriously rapid-changing vision. Gets better as it goes along and the author updates monthly.
