* Convection Schmonvection: Heavily averted.

* Determinator: Ash and his team, of course. But Ash and Infernus stand out in particular. It doesn't matter if [[spoiler: he's fighting Rockets, standing in front of a living force of nature, or facing a superpower psychic: Ash never gives up. The rest of his team follows his example but only Infernus has always stood by Ash's side.]]

* DarkerAndEdgier: than almost any of its source material. People and pokemon can [[spoiler: and do]] die, and the battles are described in much more violent and brutal imagery.
