* EnemyWithout: While in Shangri-La, Donald gets put into a mirror pool that creates an evil doppelgänger of him which serves as a representation of all of his negative emotions regarding his trauma.
* ForegoneConclusion: All of the adventures Donald goes through over the course of his story are viewed through an old journal that he wrote, meaning that even the most harrowing events already occurred long before the triplet's were born, and thus Donald had to have survived.
* FlashbackBPlot: Inverted. The main plot consists of various flashbacks of Donald's life that he had been written down in a secret journal, while the B-plot is the framing device, following the kids in the present day reacting to said accounts and discovering just how amazing Donald really was.

** We get this in two ways from Huey, Dewey, and Louie when Donald takes note of several similarities between them and various members of the family as they grow up.
