While he confesses before she uses Miraculous Cure, he makes explicitly clear that he doesn't expect her to return them... he expects to be rejected, and is only confessing to get his feelings out while he has a chance. This sharply contrasts with [[EntitledToHaveYou his regular behavior]], and is treated with far more sympathy.
** ''The Hour Glass is Drifting Away'' highlights Nino and Alya's contrasting personalities. While Alya is confident, driven and forceful in her pursuit of what she wants, Nino tends to stay quiet and keep the peace by compromising, even when he doesn't necessarily ''want'' to. He also listens to what Ladybug has to say, recognizing that her critique isn't unreasonable and accepting his punishment, whereas Alya refused to admit fault and blamed Ladybug (while also exaggerating the extent of her rebuke). Nino also recognizes that Ladybug is offering them a chance to redeem themselves, whereas Alya seems to believe that she's been permanently benched.
** ''All the Laughs We Had in the Past'' casts Alya and Chloe as foils to each other, with [[spoiler:Alya's JerkassRealization contrasts Chloe's thoughtless dismissal of Marinette's attempt to warn her]].
** Alya and Adrien also prove to be foils to each other over time. While both start off as incredibly stubborn, refusing to [[NeverMyFault admit any fault]], Alya gradually shows more of a SympatheticPOV and hints of a slow realization while Adrien keeps his metaphorical heels dug into the ground and refuses to budge. ''I Owe You Every Joy of Love'' and ''Don't Step Over My Head'' also illustrates the difference through how [[spoiler:both respond to Hawkmoth's temptation in their respective moments of weakness. Alya finds the strength to reject akumatization through her HeroicResolve not to let Ladybug down, while Adrien gives in in hopes of 'fixing everything' through force]].
** Felix serves as one to Alya thanks to their mutual interest in investigation. While savvier than her on the surface, and quick to criticize her methods, taking several snipes at her both directly and in his journal, he's just as prone to leaping to conclusions in his own way. Like her, he starts as an outsider, but is poised to have a much harder time integrating with his peers since he's NotHereToMakeFriends and sees them not as classmates, but pieces to the puzzles he's intent upon solving. While he sees himself as smarter and savvier than her, he's just as blind to his own missteps and faults as she has been.

** In ''All the Laughs We Had in the Past'', [[spoiler:Chloe receives one from Ladybug.]]

** Marinette's faith in Alya had already taken a severe blow after Lila's return, but the reporter's decision to cut up a video of Chat Noir confessing his feelings while [[LaserGuidedAmnesia under Oblivio's influence]], editing the footage to falsely make it appear that Ladybug reciprocated crosses the line.

Their frustration over her refusal to leave well enough alone doesn't matter to her; she only cares about making her ships happen.

As it turns out, her parents ''weren't'' completely unaware of all the running around she's been doing, or the danger she's been putting herself into with the Ladyblog. What's more, her grades have been slipping, and both Nora and her mother call her out on her SkewedPriorities.
** Alya sneaking out to record footage of Desperada and post it on her blog despite being forbidden from doing so doesn't go unnoticed, either. Her family is just as able to read the Ladyblog as everyone else.
** Ladybug was not the only one to notice that Alya [[ManipulativeEditing heavily edited]] the video she shot of Chat's LoveConfession. Her followers noticed as well -- and when she attempted to deal with that by deleting those comments, it only made matters worse.
** Ladybug letting Chloe continue to be Queen Bee has done practically ''nothing'' to improve her attitude. She has continued to be a petty, sniping bully, seeing no reason to change her ways -- and why ''should'' she, when it's much easier to cling to the notion that Ladybug, like Ms. Bustier, sees something special in her already? [[spoiler:When Marinette realizes that Chloe has no intention of changing, she decides enough is enough and strips her of her position.]]
** Support of the Mayor has been dwindling, and the hotel has been getting boycotted. As Alya's mother still works there, she's eager to take her friends over there when she can to support her, and mentions that she suspects they're trying to keep her mom from jumping ship as others have.
** Jagged and Penny do interview prep for Kitty Section in ''A Bottle of Exquisite Stuff.'' Doing interviews with any sort of publication is going to be different from performing on stage or livestreaming.

* SpotTheImposter: Ladybug and the other heroes have to do this when a second Ruby appears and causes mischief at the studio. While Princess Piggy and Tigresse Rayé attempt to ask questions that only the real Ruby would know, the fake Ruby is able to speak in unison with her. Ladybug instead decides to insult Hawkmoth's creation, causing the akuma to get offended and reveal themselves [[spoiler:and the fact that they actually weren't created by Hawkmoth. Another peacock holder created them.]]
