During the final battle on Zonama Sekot Jaina considers him the most powerful opponent she's ever faced (more than even Jacen and Onimi) and Krayt more than lives up to this by effortlessly dominating both Jaina and Jacen. * HiddenDepths: Serissa Lohr comes across as just another arrogant scheming noble. While that isn't entirely wrong she DOES have a genuine vision for Hapan society and she ultimately chooses loyalty to Krayt over her teacher.
* HotForStudent: Darth Terrid is Serissa Lohr's teacher....and lover.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: Saydel's purge of the Hapan aristocracy is ridiculously cruel.....and yet the people on the receiving end are corrupt aristocrats who cheerfully involved themselves in selfish power games.
* LonelyAtTheTop: Demia Lohr (the Sith pawn who rules Hapes before Serissa kills her) counts. She bitterly realizes that while she wanted power she didn't realize it involved responsibility (or that it would make her own daughter and granddaughter plot to kill her.)
* OlderHeroVsYoungerVillain: The final confrontation of the trilogy involves Allana (who's in her mid 60s) against Darth Saydel (who's 26).
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Xoran's treatment of the Senex-Juvex Lords is this given that they enslaved her as a child, as well as countless others.
* PragmaticVillainy: Darth Avanc fully intends to deal with the Jedi in good faith simply because he knows that Abeloth is THAT dangerous. Too bad Wharn had other ideas.
* SmugSnake: Serissa is a downplayed example. She's by no means stupid, but she's also INCREDIBLY full of herself and her first gambit to make contact with the Sith very nearly gets her killed (if it weren't for her having the force they WOULD have handed her over to her grandmother for execution rather than faking her death.)
* TeensAreMonsters: Serissa Lohr is 17 years old when she attempts to assassinate her own grandmother; after the Sith recruit her she becomes MUCH worse very quickly.
* VillainHasAPoint: Darth Xoran is entirely right when she says that the Senex Juvex Lords were brutal autocrats who needed to go. Saydel meanwhile also sees the Hapan aristocracy as selfish children who keep Hapes stagnant while being too cowardly to act on their ambitions.
* VisionaryVillain: While Saydel is very much an egotistical BlueBlood, she DOES genuinely want to change Hapan society into something less stagnant, and is openly disdainful of her fellow aristocrats for being shallow petty creatures unwilling to act on their ambitions. She also (surprisingly) chooses to stay loyal to Darth Krayt rather than betray him for her own ambitions. Darth Xoran is another example, in that she wants to take down the Senex Juvex Lords who ruthlessly enslaved her and her family.

* ProtagonistJourneyToVillain: The Dark Times Duology lays the major seeds for A'Sharad Hett's fall to the dark side. To sum up, he looses the Jedi, finds a new home with the Bavinyari resistance, looses THAT home to Octavian Grant, finds out that Anakin became Vader, sees the Jedi on Naboo wiped out due to them showing mercy to Hanna Ding, and gets beaten by Darth Vader. By the end of the story he's well on the way to fallin.

On one hand, the heroes succeed in assassinating Grand Admiral Makati, Isard looses her new Super Star Destroyer, and Grant flees to the Pentastar Alignment, leaving Isard in an overall weaker state. However, Soontir Fel joins the Empire of the Hand, Wedge fails to reunite with his sister, Avan Beruss gets his legs blown off and Rogue Squadron is temporarily disbanded.
* BreakTheHaughty: Grant is utterly flabbergasted when it's revealed that Thrawn and Makati were working together behind his back. Thrawn has a lesser example in that while he did account for Jerec's raw power, he underestimated just how vindictive he was, with only Dagen Niriz violating his orders allowing him to live.
* BodyguardBetrayal: Makati is killed when the Rebel Assassins reprogram his droid F-4GR to kill him.
* BusCrash: Jerec is killed by Kyle Katarn offscreen. Justified in that Dark Forces II is a story in and of itself.
* CallForward: Thrawn's encounter with Jerec (wherein Jerec badly injures him with Force Lighting after Thrawn underestimates just HOW much of a vindictive asshole he is) is what prompts Thrawn to look into countermeasures for dealing with Force Users.
* DramaticIrony: Makati blames the Jedi both for destroying Cartao and starting the Clone Wars. Both of those were actually the fault of Sidious, meaning that Makati is devoting himself to the same guy who caused him misery.
* EvilVirtues: For Thrawn and Makati it's loyalty.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: While he certainly wasn't PLANNING on dying, when it does happen Grant accepts it with a hearty laugh.
* FireForgedFriends: An unusual variation. Thrawn and Makati become friendlier after they work together to retrieve the Vengeance.
* KnowWhenToFoldThem: When Dagen Niriz's IndyPloy leaves Jerec injured and unable to dodge the Tie Phantom that's landed in his hanger, he yields control of the Noghri to Thrawn so that he can reorganize, claim the Valley of the Jedi and THEN get his revenge.
* TheLastDance: Grant ends up dying in the Last Grand Admiral after taking command of the defense forces around Rathelay and leading them to victory.
