* AdultFear:
** The closest Hachiman has been to death is getting stabbed. Just that. A knife in the chest filling his lungs with blood was almost enough to bypass his HealingFactor. It's due to this that he almost dropped out of the Hero Course.
** Chapter 12.6 where Hachiman is hospitalized [[spoiler: after fighting Stain]], gives a very realistic reaction by his mother to all the injury and trauma Hachiman is being put through in pursuit of becoming a Hero, and unlike Inko Midoriya, didn’t have a child who expressed wanting to become a Hero their whole life.

* TheAce: What everyone else in Class 1-A views Hikigaya as, and for good reason. The first thing the rest of his class learns about him is that Hachiman jumped in front of a vehicle to save a dog, broke his leg, and then proceeded to pass ''the hardest hero test in the country'' despite that. He won first place in the class Quirk assessment exercises, uncovered a villainous infiltrator right after the representative elections, rallied the rest of the students against the League of Villains during the USJ Incident, and directly assisted Eraserhead and All Might in forcing the main villains to retreat. He's [[HeroicBuild incredibly well built]], [[TheProfiler intelligent]], [[TheLeader charismatic]], has an [[DifficultButAwesome amazingly versatile Quirk]], and, to top if all off, he's the de facto leader of his entire class. This being Hachiman, however, he has quite a few mental hangups lurking [[BrokenAce just beneath the surface]].

** Hayama. Since Hachiman (accidentally) assumed the position of both leader and most popular student of Class 1-A, Hayama hasn't had to step up and play peace keeper as much between the rest of the students, allowing him to be more sincere and relaxed around his fellow classmates. That being said, it's implied that he still failed to stop the bullying Yukinoshita underwent in middle school, and doesn't know how to help her [[spoiler:mend her relationship with her friends after her team pulled a CavalryBetrayal on Hachiman and Yui during the U.A. Sports Festival Cavalry competition.]]

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: [[spoiler:During the Sports Festival's Battle Tournament, Bakugo and Hachiman are scheduled to fight, but Hachiman offers to bow-out and give Bakugo an easy win. Bakugo naturally declines, arguing that it will be more beneficial to him if he can beat the kid who can "do anything." He gets his wish, and Hachiman probably gives him the fight of his life, and by the end of it, [[OhCrap he was visibly panicking]]. Had Hachiman not fainted, Bakugo would most likely have lost.]]

* ConvenientlySeated: Hachiman {{Lampshade|Hanging}}s that he almost got "an Anime Protagonist Seat". That is, the second seat from the back, but his is next to the wall rather than the window.

** Zig-zagged with Bakugo's relationships with 1-A. Much like the original work Bakugo at first couldn't care less about his classmates, but after being bested by Hachiman, he gains respect towards him, and later Yukino and Yui, and with a bit of planning from Hachiman, comes to at least care about the other students' abilities, but this isn't because he cares about them as people, rather he recognizes that it won't mean anything for him to be number one of his group if said group is mediocre, as was taught to him by UA. His reasons for hating Izuku are also expanded, almost bordering on JerkassHasAPoint; from his POV Izuku was obsessed with having a Quirk and neglected the physical work required to be a Hero, so while being lied to is still the main part, there is still the fact that Bakugo saw Izuku's dreams as insulting because beyond studying other heroes, he wasn't putting in the effort.

* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Hachiman to his little sister pretty much all the time. It's revealed later on that there's more to the gesture than just showing affection. Komachi's automatic AdaptiveAbility Quirk improved her body without warning her of what exactly changed, which was a constant source of anxiety and frustration to her until Hachiman got a good enough handle of his Quirk to identify the changes and advise her how to make the most out of them. Patting her head then became a daily ritual for Hachiman to scan Komachi's Quirk looking for those changes.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: [[spoiler:During the Sports Festival's Battle Tournament, Bakugo and Hachiman are scheduled to fight, but Hachiman offers to bow-out and give Bakugo any easy win. ** Yaoyorozu's Quirk runs on her lipid reserves, and finds it "inconvenient" that she has to constantly eat high-calorie food like sweets and pastries because of it. That single sentence earns her the silent ire of Hagakure, Yukinoshita, and Yuigahama.

* {{Foil}}: Yaoyorozu and Hachiman, surprisingly enough. They both have low-power, high-versatility Quirks that are only as effective as their intelligence, creativity, and presence of mind can make them. They also have self-confidence issues related to this, but it affects them in different ways. Yaoyorozu's a TeenGenius who can think up multiple solutions to a given problem at once, but that also makes her very prone to [[ParalysisByAnalysis decision paralysis]], which is especially bad for heroics because battle and emergency situations almost never will give her enough time for her to determinate an optimal course of action. Hachiman instead thinks his mere presence in the Heroics Course is one big fraud, which ironically makes him very effective in a crisis because he's pretty much used to working under the stress of fearing that his next mistake will finish him. For additional irony, Yaoyorozu has come to admire him for his decisiveness and effectiveness when the chips are down, whereas Hachiman chalks it all up to lacking the luxury of hesitation when everyone else is "the real deal" and thus so much better than him.
** He also serves as one to Midoriya. They both suffered discrimination due to their Quirk status but found a new lease on life and in better social standings at U.A. thanks to a chance encounter with All Might. However, Midoriya suffered abuse from his peers because he was Quirkless but remained a die-hard [[TheIdealist idealist]] with dreams of becoming a pro-hero to emulate his idol and inspires those around him due to his ChronicHeroSyndrome and unwavering [[TheDeterminator determination]]. Meanwhile, Hachiman ''did'' have a Quirk, but it was next-to-useless, he responded to his ostracization by becoming TheCynic, and only applied to U.A. for entirely selfish reasons; he does have some genuinely heroic instincts and can handle himself in stressful situations, but he doesn't consider himself a hero and hates the fact that he's become TheLeader to his class just because he's an accidental [[TheSocialExpert Social Expert]].
** Perhaps the most direct foil Hachiman has in the story is Monoma — Two power copying [[TheChessmaster chessmasters]] that usually resort to underhanded and unheroic tactics in order to get ahead, but with a few key differences; aside from the logistical differences in their quirk, they both feel like their power is lacking in some way and have to rely on their brains in order to get any use out of them, making them both WeakButSkilled. Hachiman is a [[TheStoic stoic]] and DeadpanSnarker who's charismatic enough to give [[RousingSpeech rousing speeches]] when he needs to, was voted as the class representative by a large margin, and (unintentionally) became a source of inspiration for his classmates. Meanwhile, Monoma is a loud and obnoxious SmugSnake whose's "leadership" for his class is largely self-appointed and is TheFriendNobodyLikes. Monoma is the SitcomArchNemesis who thinks of Hachiman as a [[ItsPersonal rival that must be taken down a peg or three]], while Hachiman sees him as [[NothingPersonal just another obstacle his way]].

* IAmSpartacus: [[spoiler:In the wake of the Sports Festival, Hachiman sees that relations between 1-A and the rest of the school (especially 1-B) are at an all-time low thanks to him. After a tense moment with 1-B students, he just can't ignore his conscience anymore and openly confesses to manipulating his class to get ahead in the Festival. He expects them to turn on him, however, his classmates interpret this as him falling on his sword for the sake of the class, so they (led by Yaoyorozu) admit to their small part in the plan as a show of support and solidarity. Only Yukino saw it for the admission of guilt that it was.]]

** [[spoiler:Cyberpunch is an example of someone who grew out of being a GrumpyBear. That's not to say she's a cynical person, but she diligently runs her dojo to help at-risk kids, genuinely respects All Might, and understands how important her job is not only a crime-solving hero but also a pillar of the community. Essentially, she's what Hachiman could grow into, someday.]]

* BrokenAce: While almost everyone else in Class 1-A views Hikigaya Hachiman as TheAce and TheParagon, he's got a lot of problems that are apparent to anyone observant enough to notice. He's been bullied throughout middle school due to his [[WeakButSkilled weak Quirk]] and asocial nature, his OnlyFriend, Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, [[spoiler:was kidnapped and potentially killed by the League of Villains without him noticing until far too late]], and he has to spend almost triple the amount of time training as the rest of his classmates just to not be left behind. This has left Hachiman with an inability to perceive the affection and goodwill others feel towards him, an astonishing amount of self-loathing, and a deep-seated inferiority complex that he just can't seem to shake.
* ByronicHero: Hachiman fits this trope even more than he did in the original series. He's very attractive thanks to his HeroicBuild, considered extremely charismatic by his classmates, is intelligent, emotionally conflicted, introspective, and cynical while still being incredibly driven to accomplish his goals.

* {{Flight}}: Hayato Hayama's Quirk, Falcon Flight.

* HairTriggerTemper: Bakugo as always. It makes for a volatile mix with Hachiman and Yukinoshita's knack for ArmorPiercingResponse, but they eventually reach a balance of sorts.

** Stain is first seen in the story hiding amongst a group of homeless people during his killing spree and taking their existence as further proof of Hero society caring more about wealth and fame than helping those in need. He then goes on to describe each individual in a highly judgmental fashion, views each of them as being personally responsible for their circumstances with disgust, [[spoiler:and doesn't hesitate to mortally wound most of them after they learn he's the Hero Killer.]]

* PowerCopying: 108 Skills allows Hikigaya to copy up to 108 different Quirks from anyone he touches at the cost of each of his copies being only 1/108th as powerful as the original. It's considered a party trick-level Quirk until Hachiman gets Stockpile and Ooze, the former allowing him to boost his copies, VancianMagic style, and the latter to combine the effects of two (later on three) given Quirks.
* ThePowerOfHate: Why did an inveterate cynic like Hachiman, someone who thought Pro Heroes are merely GlorySeeker winners of the SuperpowerLottery, even apply to the most renowned HeroAcademy in Japan? The answer is ''spite''. When Hachiman was less of the misanthrope he is today, he wrote in a school survey that he wanted to enter U.A. High's heroics program because his crush at the time, Orimoto, wanted to go there. Later on, during their third year of middle school, their vice-principal summoned the two of them to his office to ask them about it, and just as Hachiman was about to go back on his words on the paper, he noticed the carefully hidden contemptuous sneer on the face of the girl that rejected his LoveConfession and then mocked him for it while making herself look good in the process. Spiteful, and recognizing that he had a chance to do better than her at the entrance exam after copying Stockpile and the Ooze Quirk, he decided to apply to U.A. just for the opportunity to rub that possibility on her face.
** [[spoiler:This is also his main reason to stay at U.A. after he discovers that the Nomu the League of Villains built to kill All Might was Yoshiteru Zaimokuza, giving Haichman a burning desire for revenge on the monsters that turned his only friend into a mindless killing machine.]]
* TheProfiler: Hachiman as in canon. His profiling of [[spoiler:All For One]] based just on the rationale behind [[spoiler:the combination of Quirks present on the Noumu that attacked the USJ]], labeling the one responsible as an utterly ''vile'' bastard for even coming up with something like that, was so spot on that Hiratsuka lost most of her reluctance to let Hachiman help her with the investigation.

* TheResenter: While Hayama genuinely likes Hikigaya, he still can't help but resent him a little for his achievements. In his mind, a lot of Hachiman's successes, such as spotting the U.A. infiltrator, being born with a versatile PowerCopy Quirk, and being placed in Yukino's HEART group, have been attained through pure chance, making it virtually impossible for Hayama to ever reach the same levels of [[BigManOnCampus popularity that Hachiman has effortlessly attained]].

* VancianMagic: How Hachiman's Quirk works after getting Stockpile. He has to spend a few hours each day to boost any of his other copied Quirks to get from 1/108th of their original power to around 10% of their original potency for each of them to even start getting useful, which gives him a limited number of boosted usages afterward. Once that number is spent, he has to repeat the ritual to charge them. Also, boosting past the 10% mark is possible, but it takes exponentially longer prep times to produce each subsequent 10% increment.
* VillainessesWantHeroes: Toga likes boys that bleed good. Guys with a sharp tongue and a HealingFactor like Hachiman? Now, that's just spoiling her.
