* UnderestimatingBadassery: Najenda repeatedly underestimates just how powerful and experienced Shirou is. Each time he proves her wrong, and each time this increases her opinion of him.

* ObliviousToLove: Shirou does not notice that Selka and Akame have crushes on him and gets confused whenever they act awkward around him. He comments that even in his previous life, he never really understood girls. Later, Selka directly asks him to marry her if they survive the final battle. He says he will think about it, and Akame becomes depressed, but he does not understand why.

* WhatIsThisFeeling: Akame clearly has a crush on Shirou, but due to her traumatic childhood and lack of education on matters of the heart, gets confused why she reacts the way she does around him.

* SoMuchForStealth: Some Calla forces use a smoke screen to sneak up on the enemy, but Ieyasu screams, "For the village!", which gives away their position. Sayo smacks him for his stupidity.

* FalseFlagOperation: Honest decides to discredit Shirou by ordering civilians massacred and blaming Shirou for it.

** After experiencing Unlimited Blade Works once, Kurome and Wave run away when they hear Shirou say, "I am the bone of my sword" again, with their plan (or Wave's plan at least) being to run out to the coast and lay low for the next few weeks or even months before checking on the situation. Syura teleports away after he [[AnArmAndALeg loses his limbs]] [[spoiler:though he comes back for a final try on Shirou's life]]. Meanwhile, as the army of Calla advances, Honest tries to flee the capital [[spoiler:and get the Emperor to activate Shikoutazer]].

** After experiencing Unlimited Blade Works once, Kurome and Wave run away when they hear Shirou say, "I am the bone of my sword" again. Syura teleports away after he [[AnArmAndALeg loses his limbs]] [[spoiler:though he comes back for a final try on Shirou's life]]. Meanwhile, as the army of Calla advances, Honest tries to flee the capital [[spoiler:and get the Emperor to activate Shikoutazer]].

* DemotedToExtra: Tatsumi, formerly a central character of his series, initially only appears in the background as one of the many refugees to Calla alongside his friends Ieyasu and Sayo. Though he briefly interacts with Night Raid, he doesn't join them, and thus doesn't obtain Incursio [[spoiler:not that he could since Bulat lives]], get into a relationship with Mine, or even attract Esdeath's attention. However, [[SavedByTheAdaptation his friends' antics]] keep him surprisingly involved in events, especially in the battle sequences.

** Leone prevents the Three Beasts from killing Chouri and Spear.

* DemotedToExtra: Tatsumi, formerly a central character of his series, initially only appears in the background as one of the many refugees to Calla alongside his friends Ieyasu and Sayo. Though he briefly interacts with Night Raid, he doesn't join them, and thus doesn't obtain Incursio [[spoiler:not that he could since Bulat lives]], get into a relationship with Mine, or even attract Esdeath's attention. His fighting ability does get him promoted to one of the top fighters in Shirou's camp, however.

* AdaptationalHeroism: Esdeath is mentioned to have only tolerated Honest for as long as she has, aside from him providing ample reasons for her to be out fighting and killing, because she respected the former emperor's choice to make him Prime Minister as he himself was a capable leader before his murder, something that was ''never'' mentioned or implied in canon. The story also implies that she's less evil than she really was, labelling her alignment color as "grey" (as her main interest is in sating her BloodKnight and SocialDarwinist tendencies no matter who or what gets in her way) when the manga explicitly spelled out that she was a total psychopath whose supposed redeeming qualities were a case of PragmaticVillainy at best.

* Downplayed by [[NobleDemon Liver]] in Chapter 30, as while seeing Caliburn's brilliant light and DetectEvil does reignite faith in his old shattered ideals and makes him truly believe Shirou is worthy, he [[UndyingLoyalty refuses to abandon Esdeath's side]]. [[spoiler:He does, however, act in the hopes he can solve any ConflictingLoyalty by [[ShipperOnDeck pairing the two together]], and he doesn't fight the heroes nearly as hard or fanatically as he could otherwise.]]

* DemotedToExtra: Tatsumi only appears in the background as one of the many refugees to Calla alongside his friends Ieyasu and Sayo. Though he briefly interacts with Night Raid, he doesn't join them.
* DetectEvil: At the battle of the Kalance Plains, Shirou turns Caliburn into a Broken Phantasm and shatters it. The shards turn into powder that blows over everyone and makes them glow white, black, or grey according to their alignment, letting Shirou and his allies know who to kill.

** Honest kills the SoleSurvivor of a group of imperial scouts sent to investigate Calla since the scout learned that [[spoiler:Shirou has a claim to the imperial throne]].

* SpannerInTheWorks: Akame saving Tatsumi and his friends from Wakokan slavers eventually leads to Shirou piecing together her location, thus allowing him and the army he brought with him to save her when she is nearly [[ZergRush overwhelmed]] by a Wakokan army.

* SuccessionCrisis: [[spoiler:When Shirou joins the war after it's revealed he's related to the Imperial line, it transforms the conflict into this. Before Honest could label the revolutionaries as nothing but dangerous rebels seeking to undermine the Emperor, but now that Shirou is a definite candidate to the line of succession it gives the Revolutionary Army legitimacy and even many within the Empire would balk at murdering him outright, including the Emperor who's ecstatic at the idea of meeting surviving kin.]]

* TokenGoodTeammate: Wave, not just for the Jaegers but most of the Empire's military. When Shirou uses the 'Light of Selection' to check the imperial army's moral alignment, Wave is the only one mentioned whose light burns a bright white where the rest are black or at best varying shades of grey. It's such that several fighters on Shirou's side hesitate to attack a fleeing Wave carrying Kurome because of said white light.

* DemocracyIsFlawed: Many members of the Revolutionary Army want to completely tear down the monarchy and establish a democracy as the new government, but multiple issues are raised with that line of thinking. Disregarding how many radicals want to ''kill'' all members of the imperial line to ensure the loyalists have no base to stand on, this is all predicated on the idea the newly-elected officials aren't more of the same corrupt figures who once stalked the imperial court, simply hiding their true faces under the veil of "revolutionaries". As the likes of Najenda and Chouri note, it simply has too much of a chance of creating multiple new Honests to deal with, and the current climate just has too many conflicting agendas and corrupt individuals seeking power by any means necessary to create the ideal stable government the Empire needs when the war ends.

* KillItWithFire: [[spoiler:Shirou encloses Esdeath inside an ''artificial sun'', which ultimately incinerates her, though the final chapter implies she did survive the aftermath]].

** [[spoiler:Seryu]] is set up to make one at the end of Chapter 45.
** [[spoiler:Kurome]] was teetering on the edge of this for some time amongst her VillainousBreakdown, but she finally falls over for good in Chapter 51 [[spoiler:where she joins Wave in protecting Shirou and Akame from Wild Hunt.]]

* UndyingLoyalty: Akame becomes so fanatically obsessed with protecting Calla that she comes to blows with Leone when the latter tries to send information on the town and its leader to the Revolutionary Army. Leone wins the fight, but Akame convinces her to keep several important secrets.

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: All of the bad guys and the more cynical members of Night Raid cannot believe that Shirou is truly selfless and think he is running some kind of con. [[spoiler:The latter eventually realize they misjudged Shirou and pledge allegiance to him.]]

** Akame is sent to infiltrate Calla in order to kill a retired general, but she falls in love with the town and can't bring herself to cause any harm to it. Leone is then sent to check on her after she fails to send any reports, only to become just as fanatically devoted to preserving Calla once she sees how charitable and caring everyone is. [[spoiler:In chapter 19, the rest of Night Raid swear allegiance to Shirou, as well.]]

* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:Seeing Shirou defend a bunch of civilians (and her) from a hail of bullets is enough to convince Seryu that he isn't evil]].

* PowerMisidentification: Though Akame understands that Shirou has magical powers, she thinks the secret of his abilities is that his family rediscovered the lost art of creating Teigu. Whenever he makes a Noble Phantasm, everybody thinks it is a Teigu.
* ThePowerOfActing: Leone rescues Chouri and Spear from the Three Beasts by pretending Shirou is hidden and prepared to snipe them. In reality, he is not present, but she is so convincing that they retreat.

* SanitySlippage: Honest was never sane to begin with, but the end of Chapter 28 shows that he's slowly beginning to lose it as Shirou makes his presence publicly known.

** By the final battle, Night Raid and the Jaegers have taken no casualties except for [[spoiler:Esdeath, and even that one [[NotQuiteDead might not have stuck]]]].

* WorfHadTheFlu: The only reason Enshin manages to beat Akame during the final battle is because she's running on fumes from all the fighting she's done up to that point while he's fully fresh. [[spoiler:It does not save him from Shirou, who's in an even worse state, when he tears him in half with a Strike Air.]]

* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:Cosmina and Dorothea were part of the imperial army force that was drawn into Shirou's Unlimited Blade Works, which in turn was decimated by the StormOfBlades and the rebel army, but the narration doesn't clarify if they perished in the chaos as there were other survivors like Wave, Kurome, and Seryu. Syura and the rest of Wild Hunt lost contact with them after the Reality Marble went up, but the utter chaos of the aftermath meant they didn't have the time or care to search for them.]]
