** Simply put, Cassie was pretty good about following her own rules (God knows the thing ran long enough for her to develop them), but not Rowling's. And as it went along, she tended to pick up [[{{Ptitlexn9xzsjd5fif}} guns]] from her own [[ChekhovsArmoury armoury]] rather than from the actual ''Potter'' books. Basically, she tore Rowling's mythology down to its foundation and then cheerfully built her own mythology over it.

There was also a good deal of controversy in fandom when the author was blacklisted from FanfictionDotNet for plagiarizing lengthy passages from a PamelaDean series without attribution (and, apparently, lying about having permission to use the passages in her fanfiction, although she did sort of get permission after she was caught). This is often confused with the series using a large amount of uncredited quotes and scenes from TV series (including ''BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' and ''{{Blackadder}}'') and several published works. Avocado, the person who first discovered and reported the Pamela Dean plagiarism, wrote [[http://www.journalfen.net/community/bad_penny/8985.html#cutid1 here]] a recount of the plagiarism debacle.

** Also, in Order of the Phoenix, it hints on pure-blood families marrying their cousins, which is part of the reason the Gaunt family was the way it ws. And, it's better than Sirisu/Bella at any rate.

Added DiffLines:

** Actually, Draco delivers quite a few of these to the original series. For example, when Harry asks if being in love always feels like [[HarryPotterAndTheHalfBloodPrince having a huge, scary monster in your chest]], Draco responds "No, I think you have indigestion. I'd see a medi-wizard if I were you."

* CrackPairing
* CrowningMomentOfFunny - Upon seeing Harry naked, Draco says: "Well, would you look at that. Congratulations, Potter."

* DracoInLeatherPants - The [[strike:TropeNamer]]. Contrary to popular belief, Draco does not wear leather pants ''all'' throughout the story, he just poses in them during a famous scene in ''Draco Sinister''.
** Not so much poses in them as is forced to borrow a pair from Charlie Weasley. Draco had a badly-broken leg, and the mediwizards at the dragon camp with Charlie have to cut the old trousers away to get at the leg. Draco then borrows a pair of dragonhide trousers from Charlie (Charlie wears dragonhide leather, of course, to be as flame resistant as possible) and a trope is born.
*** Somewhat averted even as in a later chapter, Draco bemoans having ever donned the trousers to begin with and bitterly proclaims that he'll never wear such things again.
*** [-"Those f*** ing trousers," said Draco irritably. "I have a feeling that nobody is ever going to let me forget them, even though I only wore them once, even though it was against my will --"-]
** Some trope history here, from someone who was, unfortunately, very close to the situation: '''Cassandra Claire put Draco in leather pants due to an ongoing half-serious suggestion by horny readers.''' This is not the only instance of {{fanservice}}... the Harry/"Draco" kiss late in the series was to get the readers who constantly insisted Harry and Draco had {{hoyay}} in the trilogy, and/or begged Cassandra to give them some Harry/Draco slash to shut the fuck up aleady. Cassandra was very vocal about this, [[CreatorBacklash and came to openly resent her association with this trope]], claiming it was mostly an inside joke between good friends, rather than a genuine plot device.

* {{Fanon}} - The source of quite a lot of it in the HarryPotter fandom.

* HypeAversion
* IKnewIt - Cassie may well be the queen of this. She correctly predicted the name of Malfoy Manor, the positions Ginny and Ron would play on the Quidditch team, Fleur dating Bill, and possibly even Dumbledore's homosexuality. And, perhaps most impressively, that wizards are given watches on their seventeenth birthday.

* InternetBackdraft

* LoveItOrHateIt: Either it's BetterThanCanon and a fanfiction classic, or wanky CharacterDerailment that set forth a bunch of annoying cliches.

* RootingForTheEmpire - Of a sort, since Draco is portrayed as an unlikable character in the actual ''Harry Potter'' books. However, since Voldemort and most of the other bad guys stay evil and Draco becomes sympathetic by having a HeelFaceTurn, it's not quite a straight example.

* {{Shipping}} - Harry/Hermione, Draco/Ginny, [[HoYay Ron/Blaise]], [[KissingCousins Sirius/Narcissa]].

* {{Squick}}: Salazar Slytherin first confessed his love for Rowena Ravenclaw when he was fifteen and she was ten.

** Well, they can't be reincarnations, since Salazar's not dead, Draco's not evil, Harry's not a JerkJock, and Ginny's more fiery and curvy than ridiculously-accepting and plump.

** Of course, even when adamantine isn't there, it's {{Lampshaded}} how thoroughly bad Harry and Draco are at being Magids, since they know very few spells and mostly have their wands anyway. In fact, Harry can barely do anything at all unless he's very, very angry.

* NotListeningToMeAreYouNotListeningToMeAreYou - Sirius tells Harry he's changed his mind and decided to marry Remus instead of Narcissa. Harry, predictably, is too busy with his own problems to notice.

Added DiffLines:

** Averted when Draco is badly hurt by an arrow to the shoulder, and nearly dies. Also, when Ron's hand is badly burned, he's out of it for a considerable time.

Added DiffLines:

* TakeThat - an unintentional one, given that it was written before the series finished, but happened when Hermione described how she believed she and Ron would end up together, and Harry and Ginny would too, and they'd spend ever Christmas together.
