* My God, What Have I Done?

** Snape is the undisputed king of this trope. Examples include:
** Personally killing Dumbledore, because the alternative is letting Gyffindor Tower be burnt to the ground with the children inside.
** Arranging a number of marriages between couples where one of the partners is, at best, a dangerous fanatic, and at worst a murderous lunatic because the alternative is even worse.
** Deliberately using a child as bait for a paedophile.

* [[spoiler: Nagini]] turns out to be this. The constant [[spoiler: slithering into beds and coiling people?]] It's just snuggling.

** This is how Snape snaps Draco out of his heroic BSOD moment in Skopje. He asks whether Draco was truthful about what the fighting would be like, and when he says he was, this trope is Snape's response.

** Rodolphus.He's a very competent warrior but his real genius is extracting information this way.

** SIH is well over 2000 pages long, and IoS is at about five hundred and growing.
