Hate Sink is now an exampleless supertrope

* HateSink: Dr. Wily is written like this on purpose, as the author likes having villains that readers root against. Several other villains also qualify, such as Metal Man and the Conduit, but the biggest example aside from Wily is anti-robot racist William Cochran.

* CureForCancer: PlayedForDrama. Dr. Cossack's wife died of cancer prior to the start of the story and his grief drove him to try and find a cure to prevent others from suffering from it. But his devotion caused him to unintentionally neglect Kalinka and not realize how she needed help with her grieving, eventually resulting in her attempting suicide.

** When Vickers reappears in Chapter 190, he's back to being harsh on the people he works with. That level of learned behaviour isn't going to go away overnight. At least he hasn't completely forgotten his lesson as he does show remorse to Rock when he recognizes him in the elevator.
** John Barton frequently used a seemingly miracle healing compound to self-medicate during his time as Mr. Black. When we last see him, he's got leukemia and bone cancer. Turns out using a cure that's neither medically certified or clinically tested has horrible, unforseen side effects.

** After the first time Wily attacks and starts making world domination schemes, the government immediately sends armed troops to take him out. They only fail due to his fortress defenses. They also don't sit back and let Mega Man do all their fighting, with two major events kicked off by their attempts at self-defense and trying to trap Wily. And even those failures aren't going to prevent any self-respecting government from trying to stop a threat to its civilians. Episode 17 reveals the military had drafted another attack months prior that could mobilized within hours and were just waiting for the go-ahead.
** During Mega Man's first fight, he's just been made into a top-of-the-line combot robot and possesses knowledge of the Robot Master's weaknesses, so he takes down the untrained, civilian-work designed robots fairly easily. But Mega only had a few hours to train at most while [=ProtoMan=] has had three months and equal firepower. That ends up just enough to give Proto an edge in their first fight, in which Mega Man would probably have lost if not for an energy refill and Wily deciding to cut his losses.
** A common question around the original cartoon is that if Mega Man knows where Wily's Skull Fortress is, why didn't he just barge in, take out Wily for good and kick back with a cold one? The fic provides an answer by having Mega trying that in the second episode. Between Wily's defensive measures, the gradual system damage and lacking the advantages his game version would have ({{One Up}}s, {{Random Drop}}s and more E-Tanks), Mega Man just barely makes it to the end and nearly does get killed even after his capture of Wily if not for [=ProtoMan=] owing him one for a SaveTheVillain moment.
** All the fighting Mega Man does wreaks havoc on his armor and damages his internal systems, a problem touched upon a few times in the cartoon. He is seen undergoing repair work from his battles frequently and suffers from internal injuries and damaged parts mid-fight at times.
** Wily's PaperThinDisguise of Mr. X doesn't fool Mega Man at all, as Mega certainly was going to recognize his arch enemy of two years with just a beard and glasses to fool others. Even the Robot Tournament announcers notice the similarities, but don't quite make the connection due to not knowing Wily as well.
** Once Vick-Tek is revealed to have accidentally funded the world's most dangerous terrorist, the company's stock bottoms out the next day as nobody would support them after making a blunder that big. Similarly, Marcus Vicker's CorruptCorporateExecutive behavior gets him exiled by his own board when it becomes clear he's no longer fit to run the company.
** Dick Ferguson plays like the J. Johan Jameson to Mega Man's Franchise/SpiderMan, trying to convince the world he and others like him are actually a danger. But while Spider-Man suffers from a dodgy reputation, Mega Man is renowned as a hero the world over, so Ferguson's remarks fall flat. His vitrol also has resulted in a number of legal lawsuits filed against him. And while Jameson is the head of his news company and has the clout to keep pushing his angle, Ferguson is a cog in the machine and his boss has no qualms about dumping him the second his ratings are too low to be worth saving.
** [[spoiler:Proto Man is ReformedButRejected by the public as they're understandably wary after he faked it the first time.]]
** While Mega Man may adhere to ThouShallNotKill unless absolutely necessary, the rest of the world is not quite so merciful when it comes to villains of such a destructive nature. The US military is more than happy to kill Dr. Wily in their attempts to bring him in and the public begins showing signs of supporting more drastic measures after three years of essentially having a terrorist in their backyard launching an attack every few months. Even Roll has danced dangerously close to risking shutdown just to see Wily pay. Similarly, while Duo admired Mega Man's ethics, he had no issues with killing the Stardroids, given they were a threat to whole planets. [[spoiler:And even someone like Mega Man is prepared to kill when finally pushed far enough. He nearly does execute Dr. Wily until Roll and [=ProtoMan=] talk him down.]]
** With robotics being a large prioriety and two of the biggest named scientists being American, the other countries of the world rightfully are trying to get a piece of the pie and not fall behind. This results in the Russian government putting the screws to Dr. Cossack [[spoiler:to help finish the creation of Ra Moon]].
** In episode 17, Dr. Wily has finally created his ultimate killer robot and prepares to uploading its programming to unleash it upon an unsuspecting world. He then discovers that it would take near ten days to upload as well as being riddled with numerous bugs that require an all-nighter for him to fix. Not surprising, considering any big leap in technology is rarely without some faults and Wily is essentially trying to create a Reploid with tech 100 years too early to do the job quickly and efficently.
** Dr. Wily's anger problems and neglecting of quality care caused financial problems back when he was working with Dr. Light. Light recalls how they ended up costing them a number of business deals due to his lack of professionalism.

* RoboFamily: Played with.
** As always, Rock and Roll are Dr. Light's kids first and foremost. [=ProtoMan=] is still their sibling by being constructed off the same plans. Since Dr. Wily was the one to finish assembling him in this continuity, Wily considers Proto more his kid than Dr. Light's.
** Robots generally only consider each other siblings if they were built using the same base plans. Hence, the original six Robot Masters don't consider themselves brothers to Mega Man and Roll or each other. [=ProtoMan=] even asks if Bass is technically a new brother to him, which is given a negative as Wily built him using a new set of plans. Bass does like to rile up [=ProtoMan=] by calling him "big brother". Even Dr. Light comments that X technically won't be a sibling to his other robots in that sense.

Added DiffLines:

* VillainDecay: The Mega Man Killers undergo this. In their highlight episode, they nearly killed Mega Man twice before he managed to defeat them. After that, they just became as effective as regular Robot Masters. Punk got it the worst after he took a crippling blow from [=ProtoMan=] in Episode 11. His heart just wasn't in it anymore since then and he was more prone to griping and staying out of the way than actually fighting.

Added DiffLines:

* YouWouldntShootMe: When cornered by Mega Man at the end of Episode 2, Dr. Wily is confident Mega Man really wouldn't put a plasma shot through his head. He's right, both due to Mega Man's morals and his hard-wired coding, but it didn't mean Mega could freak him out a little by pretending to be willing to do so.

* HalfwayPlotSwitch: The first half of Episode 2 is about Mega Man fighting against Dr. Wily's new robot masters. The second half is Mega Man attacking Dr. Wily's fortress directly.

* TwentyFourHourArmor: Unlike most adapatations, Mega Man is always in his armor and can't switch back to his Rock form. * MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Dr. Cossack is a firm believer in this. This is most evident in Episode 6, where he espouses the strength of Russian technology. It's not all talk, since he creates the prototype of the Ride Armor that X and Vile will make heavy use of in a hundred years [[spoiler:as well as this continuity's Ra Moon]].
