* RetCon - Whenever its pointed out that Marrissa got a character's name (or [[CriticalResearchFailure gender]]) wrong she makes up a story about how the character was originally named her misspelled name before they changed it to the canon version for some incredibly convoluted reason.

** RunningGag: If we believe the [=LotD=] interpretation of ''ITS MY LIFE!'', Marrissa has never dropped anything that she picked up, and therefore always has a whole bunch of stuff in her hands.

Due to its popularity, it has spawned a series, which ends up touching on [[MassivelyMultiplayerCrossover many more fandoms]] than just ''Portal'':

* TrollFic - Was confirmed to be such. Insane Guy of Doom (also known as Creator/SueMary) mentioned he wrote ''ITS MY LIFE!'' because he wanted Portal to have its own FanFic/MyImmortal.

** And let's not mention that the events of Literature/TheHungerGames (at least 74 years after a rebellion after a series of disasters, including flooding) are only a few months away from the events of the end of ''ITS MY LIFE!'' (Britain still has a queen, London is still above sea level).

* PurelyAestheticEra - See AnachronismStew above. It's not clear ''what'' era [=MarissaTheWriter=] was trying to emulate while writing "the past", but it's pretty much obvious she failed.

[[Videogame/{{Portal2}} Chell]] is a brain-damaged, Booty Quake-dancing test subject turned into a zombie turned into a fusion with [=GLaDOS=], while [[Literature/TheHungerGames Kantess Evergreen]] has "feekal incontinence", rendering her unable to volunteer for her sister, and is sold as a "sexing slave".

* ButtMonkey - Whichever characters Marrissa chose to be a CopycatSue for are in for a very bad treat. ''ITS MY LIFE!'' is perhaps the most infamous ''VideoGame/{{Portal}}'' fanfic, and has been compared to ''MyImmortal'' and the like. It begins by telling the story of [[MarySue Marrissa Roberts]], a test subject in Portal Labs who is seemingly Chell's sister, has [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands "speshul powers"]] and is [[ArtisticLicenseBiology somehow pregnant with Wheatly's "robot ball/human baby"]], putting her against the "[[EmoTeen goth emo]]" [=GLaDOS=] and the [[DrugsAreBad drugs-smoking and beer-drinking]] Atlas and [[RougeAnglesOfSatin P-Boy]]. And that's just the first chapter. Along its course it also involves [[DidNotDoTheBloodyResearch copious British insults]], time travel to a HighSchoolAU version of the past of "Portal Labs", evil twins, evil clones and a fusion of Chell and [=GLaDOS=].
