* NecessarilyEvil: [[spoiler:Gellert Grindelwald]]... who can be surprisingly endearing and yet totally despicable at the same time.

Currently a dead fic.

* BiTheWay: Both of the [[OfficialCouple main characters]] were [[WordOfGod declared Bi]] early on, and [[spoiler:Harriet]] is self-admittedly Bi as of chapter 17.
** [[spoiler:Ginny]] on the other hand is ''still'' in denial about her attraction to [[spoiler:Harriet]], so much so that she actually [[spoiler:oblivated herself after that one time she accidentally kissed Harriet and liked it]].

* MindManipulation: Plays a much more prominent role than in canon.

* {{Badass}}: Many characters, on all sides of the morality spectrum. Understandably and realistically, trained and/or skilled adults regularly [[RealityEnsues put even the badass children/teens in their place.]]

* TheChessmaster: Many characters. On a literal level, Ron and Dumbledore; Harriet is also quite good, though still not quite as good as Ron, even at her best. Yes, this often leads to a ThirtyGambitPileup, for better or worse.

* FromBadToWorse: As memory serves, there are only a handful of chapters where none of the main characters are seriously injured, [[OnlyMostlyDead nearly killed]], tortured, maimed, sexually assaulted, or ''worse.'' And that's just the characters. [[spoiler: Harry gets possessed by her horcrux on multiple occassions, one of which causes the deaths of 30 people and the destruction of the Hogwarts Express.]] To be fair, almost every chapter is over 20,000 words in length, covering a vast amount of other material.

* {{All Take and No Give}}: [[spoiler:Ginny's unhealthy codependent relationship with Harry. Because of her sexual confusion in the third book, Ginny morphs into a nasty jealous bitch that wants Harry to herself sans romance.]]

* DarkerAndEdgier / BloodierAndGorier: Harry suffers from some really serious abuse in the first 2 books and gets starved to death once. It also contains a significant amount of (sometimes graphic) violence like decapitation, torture and rape.

* FromBadToWorse: As memory serves, there is only one chapter (sans the prologue and short interludes) where none of the main characters are seriously injured, [[OnlyMostlyDead nearly killed]], tortured, maimed, sexually assaulted, or ''worse.'' And that's just the characters. [[spoiler: Harry gets possessed by her horcrux on multiple occassions, one of which causes the deaths of 30 people and the destruction of the Hogwarts Express.]] To be fair, almost every chapter is over 20,000 words in length, covering a vast amount of other material. This is a HurtComfortFic taken to near-extremes on both ends of hurt and comfort. As such, it can be difficult to adjust to, but it can also be extremely enjoyable.

* HiddenDepths: Nicholas Flamel is made into an intensely intriguing character.

* KangarooCourt: A rather infamous example; the Wizengamot is several times worse than its canon counterpart. It skips past "farce of a trial" and goes straight into "they're all complete morons with no self-respect, integrity, or care towards their own traditions, rules, morality, or curiosity." Thankfully, [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure Dumbledore]] arrives, points out how insanely stupid they all are and the entire basis for the trial is in less than ten seconds, and they reluctantly rule--unanimously--that [[spoiler: Harriet]] isn't guilty. No, really. He talks for ten seconds, presents no new evidence or information, and the Wizengamot completely reverses its ruling from "AFateWorseThanDeath" to a unanimous "clear of all charges". You can't even blame this one on AdultsAreUseless or pure corruption, either. In a story where almost everyone is a rounded, fleshed-out character that has actual realistic motives, this instance is bizarrely out of place and nonsensical.
** Dumbledore DID provide new evidence (or at least, evidence that the court hadn't considered, namely [[spoiler:the fact that Harry's eyes had changed color, a prime indicator that she'd been possessed during the events she was charged regarding.]] Otherwise, yes, very much a colossal fail on the part of the Wizengamot.

* NecessarilyEvil: [[spoiler:Gellert Grindelwald]]... who is surprisingly endearing and yet totally despicable at the same time.

* OriginalFlavor: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted.]] It feels like this...at first. Then SlyGoddess puts the characters through the wringer...and doesn't stop. Oh, and all of the characters are way more sexual than in canon. Also, magic behaves differently (and is capable of far, far more) than in canon.
* RoundCharacter: Canon Ginny is somewhat flat in terms of background and personality, whereas 'A Butterfly Effect' Ginny is detailed and believable. Dozens of characters also get this treatment, from Dumbledore to Lavender Brown.

* SugarAndIcePersonality: [[spoiler: Pansy Parkinson]] is the end all be all of AlphaBitch {{Tsundere}}s. She has the rather miraculous and vastly entertaining ability to oscillate her behavior patterns between those of a full-blown {{Ice Queen}} and those of a consummate PrincessClassic.
* ThePowerOfLove: Considerably ''more'' awesome than in canon.

* VillainTeleportation: Obviously, wizards in HP can apparate, but [[spoiler:Grindelwald, thanks to his fourth Hallow, can portkey anywhere, passing seamlessly through any and all magical protections. The portkey is powered by thought. Almost feels like he is a everywhere, always watching.
