While B-Squad are on their second mission, a much more dangerous one involving a proton accelerator that the Troobians are trying to use to create a black hole to destroy Earth, Jack easily escapes his cell, but gets recaptured when he stops to help scientist [[HotScientist Kat Manx]] and her [[ButtMonkey long-suffering]] assistant Boom stop an out-of-control escaped criminal. However, the base's commander, Doggie Crueger, becomes impressed with Jack's willingness to help people and hands him a strange metal box, telling him to head to help B-Squad, who are getting their asses kicked by a full Troobian force. When Jack arrives, he winds up pulling a fifth Morpher out of the box and morphing into the B-Squad Red Ranger - something Sky is ''NOT'' happy with.

They wind up being saved by the thief they sent after, who after getting injured in the process is revealed to be Z's ex-husband Jack Landors, who after their nasty divorce returned to the streets where they had once lived and took up thieving to survive. Despite Z's objections, Sky arrests Jack and takes him to HQ's brig.

At first, B-Squad consists of the [[ByTheBookCop serious]] Sky, [[WellDoneSonGuy who wants nothing more than to be a Red Ranger just like his missing father]], the [[DitzyGenius unusual yet intelligent]] Bridge, the [[LovableAlphaBitch glamorous]] Syd and the [[CowboyCop rebellious]] Z. When A-Squad is forced to leave the planet on business and then mysteriously disappears without a trace, B-Squad are promoted to Ranger status and given morphers, as well as a first mission - track down a metahuman [[JustLikeRobinHood Robin Hood-like]] mass thief and burglar.
