His first televised acting role came in 1966, in an episode of ''This Man Craig''. The rest of TheSixties for [=McGugan=] only had one small role in an episode of ''The Revenue Men''. TheSeventies picked up his career, with [=McGugan=] being cast as Gunner Mackintosh in ''It Ain't Half Hot, Mum'' in 1974 and starting a ten-year career as a ''Series/PlaySchool'' presenter in 1975.
