Roger Moore's relationship with the series started with ''Film/LiveAndLetDie'' and lasted until ''Film/AViewToAKill''. [[OlderThanTheyLook He was 45 when he started out,]] [[BadassGrandpa almost 58]] when he wrapped things up, with the largest number of appearances in the role, making Sir Roger THE longest lasting Film/JamesBond to date! (At the time of writing, it's known that Creator/DanielCraig has been signed on for more movies, but uncertain as to how many and when they will be released.) His era is known being very light hearted, often to the point of self-parody, making him somewhat divisive among fans of the series, and it is often debated how much of the self-parody was him and how much of it was the studio.

Nowadays doesn't act much, but, according to his IMDB page, lends his voice for things more than he'd appear on screen, and seems all right with doing a cameo here and there. However, he's been putting his celebrity to good use in humanitarian activities (most notably as a UNICEF ambassador), earning a knighthood in the process. He also filmed a role in the pilot for a new series based on ''Series/TheSaint'', after having provided a voiceover for the ill-fated 1990s movie version.

* PlayingAgainstType: In Film/NorthSeaHijack, his character was a [[KindheartedCatLover cat loving]] HeManWomanHater. Also Film/TheWildGeese in which he plays a jaded mercenary who has rather more in common with Danial Craig's Bond than Moore's version.

* SelfDeprecation: The foundation of his sense of humour. He described his emotional range as James Bond as "Left eyebrow raised, right eyebrow raised, eyes crossed whilst being strangled by Jaws," and has expressed shock at never being nominated for an Oscar despite learning a whole two more facial expressions. He's also the only Bond who freely admits to using stunt doubles, saying "I do all my own stunts. I do all my own lying, too."

SIR Roger Moore, thank you.

Roger Moore was first and foremost known for the Television series ''Series/TheSaint''...

Wait, what? [[JustHereForGodzilla That's not why you actually clicked this page, did you]].

Tough.

Born October 14th 1927, he is the QuintessentialBritishGentleman who first dabbled in the TV series ''Series/{{Maverick}}'' as Beauregard Maverick, one of the interchangable brothers for which the series was well known for. He also headlined a version of ''Literature/{{Ivanhoe}}''. [[AsYouKnow As previously mentioned,]] his role on ''Series/TheSaint'' got him his biggest role for which many people still know him to this day:

[[TheNameIsBondJamesBond Bond]], Film/JamesBond.

Roger Moore's relationship with the series started with ''Film/LiveAndLetDie'' and lasted until ''Film/AViewToAKill''. [[OlderThanTheyLook He was 45 when he started out,]] [[BadassGrandpa almost 58]] when he wrapped things up, tying SeanConnery for the number of appearances in the role (despite [[Film/NeverSayNeverAgain one of Sir Sean's]] not being a ''true'' sequel but ''let's not go there'') making Sir Roger THE longest lasting Film/JamesBond to date! (At the time of writing, it's known that DanielCraig has been signed on for more movies, but uncertain as to how many and when they will be released.)

Unfortunately Sir Roger's affection for the role comes and goes. It seems on one hand he loved the job, but on the other hand a great deal of IAmNotSpock feedback came from him. Reportedly, "[[WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings Who's the best Bond!?]]" questions tend to leave a sour taste in his mouth because it's such a BaseBreaker being him (despite, you know, Creator/GeorgeLazenby already having been there).

TV series and films he's been in:

* ''Series/{{Ivanhoe}}'': The eponymous knight
* ''{{Maverick}}'': Beauregard Maverick

!!Tropes related to Sir Roger Moore:

* AwesomeDearBoy: One of the reasons he played Bond for so long. Even in the weaker films, he's clearly having the time of his life (that and he was probably getting a hefty paycheque considering he twice tried to walk away from the part in the early 1980s, with JamesBrolin lined up to replace him for ''Octopussy'' at one point).
* BadassBaritone: His voice is ''very'' deep and authoritative.
* BadassDriver: Was a trucker before he was an actor and did most of his own stunt driving.
* TheCameo: Post - JamesBond career.
** HeyItsThatGuy: In ''SpiceWorld''
* CoolOldGuy: UNICEF ambassador, knight, and still incredibly charming.
* DoesNotLikeGuns: He was accidentally shot in the leg when he was 14. He used a stunt double for scenes with guns.
* FascinatingEyebrow: Probably does it better than Creator/SeanConnery.
* GentlemanSnarker: In real life, he's probably more of a snarker than Simon Templar and James Bond put together.
* [[GrandmaWhatMassiveHotnessYouHave Granddad What Massive Hotness You Have]]: Up until his facelift at 57, he was a stunningly handsome man. Even now he looks better than most people in their mid-80s.
* IAmNotSpock
* IAmVeryBritish: Oh so very much.
* LanternJawOfJustice
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Critics often mocked him for not looking tough enough to be an action star. Moore beat up Creator/LeeMarvin, one of the critics who was rather tough himself. Marvin later admitted that Moore may not look it, but he is built like granite.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's three years older than Creator/SeanConnery, and looked about ten years younger in his first two Bond films.
* QuintessentialBritishGentleman
* SharpDressedMan: So much so that all his suits for ''Series/TheSaint'', ''Series/ThePersuaders'', ''Film/JamesBond,'' and a bunch of his other films and TV series were made by his real-life tailors.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: According to ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' animator Greg Duffel, before acting, Moore was interested in becoming an animator himself. However the only job he was ever able to get at any animation studio was that of a "messenger boy". And he was fired very quickly.
** Moore was actually one of the very first actors considered to play Bond back in 1962, but was unavailable due to his commitments to ''The Saint''. That didn't stop him from playing Bond in a comedy skit that aired on British TV around 1965.
